  1. The checkrail will but up to the point crossing. Julie
  2. I've been scratch building a sheep barn, which is designed to be placed next to the sheep creep. Partly because the barn and the creep make up a micro scene, but also to act as view blocker. I've made a conscious decision to make all the buildings be unique and have 3D roofs and walls. There is a 2mm gap between the sheep barn and the sky support, to allow the flexible backscene to fit between. The passenger trains is photographed next to the sheep barn, to check the proportions are correct. I have opened out the distance between the closure rails to make the catch point look more realistic whilst still allowing the N Gauge wheelsets negotiate it. Julie
  3. When I swooped the loco from one end to the other end of it's train, there was a problem with the gap between the point checkrail and the curve one. Solution is to start again with no gap! Julie
  4. The court case is over, I can once again think about other things, including railway modelling. Below are two photographs of a first attempt at adding a checkrail on the approach to the goods yard entry point. It does Improve the slow running through the point. Of course it needs painting rusty Brown colour. Julie P.S. I've been forced to pay my assailant £100, Judas money, for an non existent assault on her!
  5. And because of my Autism, ADHD, Tourettes & Epilepsy, I am hated and feared by most people I meet. I have been accused of 1000's of actions I have not, and definitely would never do. Many people are intensely jealous of many of my achievements, which are made possible, because of my talents and personal qualities. My Autism gives me an ability to see solutions to problems, particularly technical ones that most, but not all non autistic people cannot see. I have my close friends and my dog Maisy, who love and cherish me. They sustain me through my current troubles and their love hopefully will assist me in this time. I'm sorry to have written the above, in my blog, but I have no other way of saying what I have said. Please accept me for the person that I am, see the good in me and what I can contribute to the hobby and the wider community! Julie
  6. Post 1952 trains were hauled by what became class 04 in the TOPS classification. Before that trains were hauled by motley collection of 0-6-0 steam engines, including terrier's. Passenger trains used 6 wheeled coaches, see earlier posts and freight was handled using 4 wheeled short wheelbase wooden bodied wagons. There was a short period where passenger trains were formed of single car, pressed steel railcar units. Julie
  7. I've been filling in the gaps, by adding the missing sleepers. They are also referred to as timbers, to distinguish them from concrete ones. PS I'm sorry about the slow progress on my micro layout, this is due to being worried about being prosecuted, simply because I have 'learning disabilities'! I think I live in a police state. Julie

  9. I've built a Metcalf card kit on a train from Paddington to Cariff Central. Beat that if you can. P.S. I had to hide the scalpel when I wasn't using it! Julie
  10. I have now done all the track laying on the scenic part of the layout. I can now decide where the boundary between the scenic and the fiddle yard should be. I can also enlarge the bridge box.This is the cutout in the top surface cut out to allow scenery below the track level. Julie

  12. No lads, not anything to do with satellite TV! It's a system to support a flexible backscene. This is because the layout has to fit into a small case for transport. The loco crabbing problem has been solved by the addition of a small piece of plastic which reduces the width of the crossing flangeway. This also stop the coaches occasionally hitting the bridge, by keeping their wheelsets from crabbing too. Julie
  13. Yes this would be possible, but I wish to keep to the standard back to back dimension. I'm going to install the check rails and then re run the running tests. This problem of crabbing occurs quite frequently, but most people usually don't attempt to solve it. It often happens in sidings or extra fiddleyard roads that have been squeezed in. When done I think it will dramatically improve the running and be well worth the effort. The fact that the layout on the main line does not have an reverse curves, or any significant straight track it parts of the problem too. Julie
  14. I still experiencing problems with my Farish 04 running slowly over the goods yard entry point on Clovelly Road. I have discovered that the problem is that it is crabbing. This means that the loco wheels are moving towards the outside rail. This has the effect of increasing the distance of the loco tyre from the inner rail and thus increasing the electrical resistance. I have proved that my diagnosis is correct, when a stall occurs, I very generally push it towards the inner rail. The loco then starts and runs for a number of circuits without stalling. Eventually the problem returns. The same remedy again works. I think that the solution is to add a check rail on the approach to the point. Julie

  16. I've been Running the 04, it was the first time I have run it since it returned from Farish after a warranty repair. It now seems able, after a run in, to run much more smoothly. Julie
  17. By having a track extension on the LHS of the Borough Lane platforms, it has the effect of increasing the run length, see simulation below. The basis of the stimulation is that the hidden track is just over 1 coach long! Julie

  19. I've been looking at the entry of 22 nd August & in particular Paul's plan.This rather neatly solved the scenic hidden question, by making the whole baseboard scenic. Julie
  20. The web's hold the sleepers in position. But you re-insert the rails before cutting the web's. The chairs are a tight fit, therefore the sleepers don't move very far, before the point is laid, the sleepers are re-positioned. If necessary you can use super glue to hold a sleeper in position. Once you glue the point in position using contact adhesive nothing can move. Just before the point is pressed into position, the sleeper spacing is checked & if necessary corrected. If you want to bend a point yourself, start with a large radius point first, because it is easier of it's longer length. The other advantage is that the larger radius point, is that it will only be necessary to cut the web's on one side. Julie
  21. When building micro layout if you use proprietary track, you will nearly always need to bend points if you require your trackwork to flow! When you start bending points you have to be prepared to break your first couple of points. BUT with practice you will be able to get excellent results without breaking them. The photographs below show the sequence of operations. The points as supplied by Peco The outer rails removed and bent to required curvature. The rails re-inserted after the web's underneath have been removed. Do not remove them in the area of the turn at or the plastic check rails! The points as installed on the layout, the final curvature is achieved during the gluing of them in position on the layout.   22. In model railways we need to put the railway in context. This is done by using scenery and a backscene. Clovelly Road is designed to fit into a small case for transport. Therefor there will be a permenent backscene & in front of this a flexible backscene which is higher. This initial part of the backscene behind the road bridge is glued in position using wood glue. The gap between the bridge and the support is to allow for the thickness of the flexible backscene. Julie

  24. I was walking today, with my sister and her dog Maisy along the Basingstoke canal just outside Woking, Surrey and guess what we saw? A Bantum tug and one of it's compartment boats, these were the barges that the Bantums pushed along, often in multiples. Julie PS this is getting to be a barge blog?
  25. I take your point about the scenic area, but I thought I could add a mill behind the station like Ingrow, West Yorkshire. Having the station on a curve would look better. The real railway does not have many pieces of straight track. I will add mill to model of model. I also think that the mill between the yard & high level needs to be about half current size, because it only needs to hide fiddle yard entrance. I also think that I can increase the length of the layout slightly too. Julie
