  1. Added another King Arthur to my roster - at 53 quid and DCC installed (Hornby decoder) seemed like a VERY good buy. Missing the accessory pack, BUT, unpainted crew installed in cab.
  2. You know what... there's nothing here for me, and the CFO/SWMBO AND my bank manager said I'm dead if I buy it - couldn't resist, coat, hat, on me bike Best of luck to them with this project.
  3. There are dreamers everywhere -> http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hornby-OO-6115-Steam-Locomotive-R-434-L-M-S-Coach-57-Brake-3rd-/252416353331?hash=item3ac52fe433:g:a1gAAOSwNsdXSnnM for a mere $399 (around 275 QUID!) in a Hornby LMS carriage box! Not only is it more likely the Mainline offering, best I can tell - available IF you want one for closer to 65 quid on eBay UK, NOT that I'd even pay that. The seller does note "Any questions please ask" - possibly one should be "ARE YOU BLOODY KIDDING ME!". It does come with free US shipping though

    Hornby Spares

Yep - asked there as I've been looking for one of these myself for over a year! By comparison, Hens teeth are abundant! Also tried for the "broken MN as spares" and they aren't particularly easy to come by for a sensible price. The most likely thing to do is just buy another MN at the lowest price you can find, and renumber/rename if you have a particular one you are wanting/needing. This is twice as difficult from here (US based) as many of the eBay offerings won't ship here, AND I have to consider/add the shipping cost to the equation. The last one I obtained was a US eBay sale of the "Royal Wessex" set that I won for a steal, $132 (about 90 quid) brand new never unpacked, as no-one else seemed to bid on it! Doubt I'll ever get that lucky again. The MN I was hoping to "repair" is just a bin item far as I'm concerned <sigh>. I'm thinking of parting it out on eBay probably with the tender, chassis and BOX (har har) sold separately, I can manage to get almost what a full MN is worth
  5. Far as I can tell it usually means "...I think the punters are idiots so I'm going to ask way over the odds for this piece of carp, some prat will buy it..."
  6. Right or wrong location Rob, it's STILL the best proportioned loco ever Forget the west end of the world, just jam a pair on the up AND down fast lines at Weybridge, tearing through the station at top speed, see attached for reference; I know I'm biased, but I'm also right
  7. I'm thinking of scanning a 10 pound note, both sides, on the same face of a sheet of paper, that way you don't have to flip it over and you can see both sides at the same time! I'll call it "Copy of a 10 pound note". How does a BIN price of 15 quid and free shipping sound??
  8. Try this - https://www.youtube.com/user/EverardJunction - excellent how-to videos and a nice demonstrable layout.
  9. Got these 4 for 21USD (about 14 quid!) Seems like a pretty good deal especially since they all include metal wheels/bearings... I'll have to see how I like making them, the last Parkside kit I wasn't too happy about making, maybe these will be better, at least the price was right
  10. John, have you considered/tried the electronic version. I went over to that (though I DO enjoy the hard copy occasionally) mostly to reduce the storage, improve the delivery and have the availability of it on several devices.
  11. Agreed, depending on my spending, the hobby can be positively detrimental to my health, if the Mrs discovers the arriving parcels before I can snatch them from the post box!
  12. Looking very good ..dt.., but you've gotta stop posting pictures of the real thing and passing them off as your layout??
  13. Certainly agree, but hardly surprising since they had 50 YEARS to plan for the Winston Churchill funeral pack/train and still managed to deliver that A YEAR LATE! Looks like with the price for the new Flying Scotsman they are planning to solve their monetary crisis with one item too
  14. Jeff, Of the two drivable model shops near me, one doesn't bother to carry PECO flex, only PECO code 100, 75 and 83 points (at really extortionate prices) and the other has a supply that fluctuates wildly, and charges around $6 a yard when they have it. Do what I do/did for large volumes, Hattons have the stuff for 55 quid a 25-piece box (Code 100, Code 75 about 4 quid more) with VAT deducted which comes out at barely more than 3USD a yard. Tack on around 13 quid for 2-day air and you're still only looking at around 4USD a yard delivered to your door. Even trying to get it "US locally" from most US model shops/eBay vendors it's still around 6USD a yard delivered from anywhere I've found (happy to be corrected, but I unless I go for replacing, see below, I don't need it in bulk any more so drive and pay the 6USD if I need a yard)... I really like the announcement and the direction it takes us, and will possibly slowly replace some of my track, BUT, with about 100 yds or more of flex down, I don't think the CEO would be too excited about me ripping it all out and replacing it, even IF I presented it as a permanent way improvement!
  15. Agreed. and coupled (pun DEFINATELY intended!!) with one of the two available height gauges, you should not have to worry about trip pins fouling track. Even some of the vehicles I've got that have sloppy NEM boxes, with a little packing to help and an appropriate amount of adjustment with aforementioned pliers they will still provide for correct running IMHO. With the use of the height gauge you can work your stock to assure that ALL the vehicles meet the same standard, and then will couple/uncouple without issue. I'm often quite surprised by the number of folks using/working with Kadees that don't own either of these almost required tools! They're not even that pricey. Also, for those struggling with replacing the knuckle springs, there's even a tool for that too, though I admit those ARE very fiddly even with the tool. I've actually just thrown away a couple of couplers needing the spring - well, assigned them to the bit box for later review at least, as trying to replace them demands a LOT of patience.
  16. Wow, given he's sold damned near 260 of them already therefore grossing about .25 million quid, I better see if I can't get a supply from China and sell 'em at cut price for 500 quid apiece, I should make a killing!!
  17. SOD ME! I've got one of those MINT with a MINT box, I was hoping someone might shell out MAYBE a tenner (if they were nuts??) so hadn't bothered to put it up Perhaps that and it's "friend", an R436 I think, will bring me enough for a new loco - FAT CHANCE, DREAM ON, etc., etc.
  18. I could be wrong, but I'd "guess" neither Starbucks nor Giorgio Armani, in particular (never mind the long list of others), have given licenses/permission for their copyright material use. I know in the US here, Starbucks in particular are VERY hard on folks peddling this stuff without the correct/appropriate licenses, and most so called cottage industries can't afford the license fees they charge! Other LICENSED merchandisers are usually the ones to tip off the trademark owner as it cuts into their sales, which they are fully licensed for. I'd suggest it's only a matter of SHORT time, before this seller hears from several of the companies in question
  19. So, if I really NEEDED any of these (actually have a rake of much better detailed Bachmann Mk1's), I'd be torn; Do I buy ONE for $142 US (there is FREE Shipping after all ) -> http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hornby-R4355-Railroad-BR-Mark-1-Brake-3rd-Chocolate-Cream-/181971487040?hash=item2a5e588940:g:bnEAAOSwf-VWViCs Or get RAKE OF FIVE OR SIX for about the same price (need to add shipping though...) -> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-R4355-BR-Mk1-Brake-3rd-Chocolate-Cream-Coach-Railroad-OO-Gauge-/321393995736?hash=item4ad4932fd8:g:mfYAAOSwaNBUdJ7b boy, it sure would be a difficult choice DUH!!!!
  20. My understanding (for probably more than a year ago now when I inquired) is that the NEW one www.ehattons.com was a disappointment to some old codgers folks who longed for the old one to stay, so they kept both. For myself I can't stand the old one and have always had pretty good luck using all the features of the new one. Oh and I've been buying from Hattons pre-web since around the early '80s...
  21. Speaking of that sort of recurring event, this one has been showing up since the ill-fated short supply almost a year ago now. Always for the same price, never sells. Wonder if the seller is going to drop the price once the second wave flood the market or hope some complete idiot buys it as it's a "rare first edition" http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-R3115-EXETER-34001-SUPER-DETAIL-UNREBUILT-WEST-COUNTRY-CLASS-BR-SR-/141835523033?hash=item21060e53d9:g:4tUAAOSwgQ9Vw4EN
  22. OK - finally had some time to spend with my late crest and it's a delightful model. I found it quite easy to get the tender apart to access the DCC plug, fitted a TCS DP2X-UK, installed a pair of #18 Kadees and off she went with no hesitation. A joy to behold. THEN, I decided to start fitting the details, brake rodding no trouble, provided you accept that you have to have EXCEPTIONAL manual dexterity!!! <phew> Next were the draincocks - UT OH! So which of you blighters has my RIGHT-HAND SIDE set? My pack contains TWO left-hand versions <sigh>. I've emailed Hornby and hopefully they'll be able to grab one and send it on to me... meanwhile, I wonder if someone is going to see two "rights" when they finally open their pack.
  23. Had exactly the same problem with a couple of my BB/WC including "Sir Keith Park" - as described by several other posters. What you need is Hornby part #X8849 Got mine from Peters Spares - order a couple to be safe/have spares available... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-X8849-Idler-Gear-Set-China-Built-Locos-/331680864976?hash=item4d39b85ad0
  24. Excellent Talk about odd/differing rates for everywhere, to the US it's free delivery over 100 quid, so the total for me was 112 delivered and after VAT Can't wait to get my hands in it - yum
