  1. As a couple of years have passed since the question was last asked, does anyone know if Heljan are considering a third run of Class 28's? Given that the second release was about six or seven years after the first one it's now around the same amount of time after the second release. They seem to be readily snapped up on the occasions they appear on E-bay so presumably there must be still some demand for them.
  2. Rather than heresy I'd suggest gentle upgrade in keeping with the HD tradition. I'd be more than happy with something like this in my collection. Great job.
  3. I wouldn't do anything with it either. The odd imperfection adds to the charm. In fact it looks like you've got a very good example there. Cliff.
  4. The old Airfix kits have always been a favourite of mine. With a little care and modification they can still look good on a layout today. Kind Regards, Cliff.
  5. This was the last one from a very poorly stocked stand at Nottingham Show years ago that I've just found in my kit stash. I've not seen any more since which is a pity because I wanted to build a few to add a little variety to my rake of HD versions. Kind Regards, Cliff.
  6. Saw this on tv the other evening. Made a welcome change from all the doom and gloom that seems to pervade the BBC lately.
  7. I've often thought this in recent times. Especially after just watching the BBC news. Mind you, Sky and ITV are not much better either.
  8. At one time, many years ago and not knowing any better, I would give Dublo mechanisms a liberal coating of WD40. After a little running in they would go like the proverbial 'bat out of hell' and also the slow running would be much improved and they're all running fine to this day although my servicing standards have improved since then. Don't think I'd be inclined to use WD40 on anything more recent though. Regards, Cliff.
  9. I quite agree. I'm totally fed up with the broadcast news. It seems to have become very Americanised in recent years in that they can make losing a hubcap on the M25 a major event requiring 24 hour wall to wall coverage. Bring back Reggie Bosanquet and Alastair Burnet. That's it for now .. I'm back in the lockdown bunker now. Regards, Cliff.
  10. At one time Cromer was in my neck of the woods. I'd be interested to know what issue that was in. Regards, Cliff.
  11. Here's one I put together some years ago using parts from both the Airfix and Parkside kits. Regards, Cliff.
  12. I used Parkside's PA09 BR 10ft underframe kit together with my preferred Romford wheels. It's a very nice kit although I found the tie bars a little fragile. If I remember I also added new coupling hooks and metal buffer heads from 51L. Some Liquid Gravity was used to add a little weight and Bachmann couplings finished the job. Hope this helps, Regards, Cliff.
  13. I've always liked the old Airfix kits. Here's some vans I put together a few years ago on Parkside underframes and Romford wheels together with a few other bits of detailing.
  14. And they have been here a long, long time Mister Mulder.
  15. Which only goes to prove that railway modelling is such an absorbing pastime that one could lose sight of what's happening in the wider world. Cliff.
  16. Any thoughts on how this will affect publication of the magazines in the short and longer term.? Regards, Cliff.
  17. I quite agree. Picked up a copy a few weeks ago having seen it at a local show. Excellent book and as mentioned a great source of inspiration. Regards, Cliff.
  18. This looks like it might be the definitive reference work for the Class 28 and apparently it's due for publication at the end of June. The rrp of £40 is a little steep although Amazon are currently taking pre orders for just over £30. That said, for those of us who have been Co-Bo fans for many years this book is very possibly a 'must have' and certainly a copy will be finding its way onto my bookshelf. Regards, Cliff.
  19. Despite their faults, I have to confess a preference for the Class 28 Metro Vicks.
  20. Just got back after a great day out. Definitely an event not to miss. From what I could see there was a good turnout and fortunately the weather stayed ok until mid afternoon when it got a little damp. Great to see Chollerford again which is one of my favourite layouts. All in all a big well done and thank you to the organising team. Regards, Cliff.
  21. Always a good show to attend and spent a few hours this morning making a few purchases and enjoying the layouts. Troutbeck Bridge in particular caught my eye ; I seem to remember it being in one of the magazines but I'm at a loss to remember which one and when. Perhaps someone can jog my memory . Anyway great venue and an excellent show all round as usual. A big well done to the Mickleover chaps. Kind Regards,
  22. Picked up a copy the other day. It was a pleasant surprise to find the articles on my favourite pilot scheme diesel namely the Class 28 Metrovick. Agree with Steve about the paper though. Regards, Cliff.
  23. Which most probably explains why I've noticed quite a bit of extra traffic on the Erewash line lately. Regards, Cliff.
  24. Good evening Russ, I can still remember that crash from all those years ago. We were living in Hempstead at the time just a couple of miles on the other side of Holt to you. It was on a Monday night as I recall and a storm was seriously raging. We were watching "Vendetta" on the Beeb and just before the end at 10pm, the dog wanted to go out. So as I was outside in all the thunder and lightning there was suddenly an all mighty flash which seemed to light up everywhere and which seemed to linger a little longer than lightning. Then immediately afterwards I stood watching a lot of glowing stuff falling from the sky. Didn't really know what to make of it at the time and no immediate way of finding out. No rolling news or mobile phones in those days. In fact there wasn't a house in our road with a phone at all and the public phone in the village itself was about 10/15 minutes walk away. It wasn't until next morning with the arrival of the postwoman that we heard what had happened. A terrible tragedy most definitely and one which would have been a whole lot worse perhaps had it happened a just a little earlier over the town itself. Regards, Cliff.
