I think the V-irons are W-irons with the angled side pieces removed leaving just the verticals supporting the axle boxes.

Very nice weathering there - it certainly looks the part.

 

I'm intrigued by the autoballaster, more info on that would be interesting - in particular where did you get the "carillion" transfers for it?
