You've managed to pull another one out of the bag Mikkel, nicely written description of your work and excellent model.

 

Although you mention not wishing to add reins have you considered using a glue gun to produce some ?

 

Simply place a drop onto any surface and then slowly pull away to produce the stringing effect ( you know, the one which is a nuisance in normal use ). Cheap, easy and can be replaced at virtually no cost if broken.

Once set cut to length.

Or maybe some EZ Line which will give enough when you move the model with just enough slack in it.

One thing I specifically enjoy is his commentary and whole approach to his modelling techniques. In one video he shows his previous career in the film industry making film sets etc which he's carried on into his modelling.

 

Lots of food for thought and using "mistakes" to your advantage. It certainly has made me think again about certain techniques and like you my mind has been working overtime when laying my head down to sleep !!! 

 

His comments on Vallejo etc are interesting, I may have to replenish my Isopropyl alcohol supply now and start thinning my Tamiya supplies !

Hi matey,

 

I have recently been taking time to watch this chap and his modelling. 

It certainly makes for an interesting take on just how much / little can be used to create what you want to achieve and I for one like his commentary, worth a watch ( including some of his other videos showing the techniques he uses ) .

 

I will be trying something similar once I get started in ernest again.

I did wonder after reading a certain post elsewhere whether this would come to the fore ( thank you ) .

 

I would utter to suggest if using this method it is best done at the initial planning stages. Trying to adapt an existing layout can be quite challenging, that said, if you were to consider going down that cobbled street I think if anyone could put their innovative mind to it you would be the ideal person to try, I do genuinely mean that.

Pure genius Mikkel, simple but yet so very effective, even down to "small details" such as the horse do-dah on the road ! ( I assume that"s what it is ? ).

 

Thank you for taking the time to record and also post the short videos which explain your principles in modelling the lovely work you're doing on Farthing. The scene now takes on a whole new feeling especially with the B & W photograph.

I do marvel at the scale of the station building in 7mm, it was big enough to build in 4mm. May I ask if you had some proprietary etchings enlarged or were they made from your own designs ?

It was my first ever 7mm loco kit build and most enjoyable even if it was a steep learning curve for me.

There must be some personal satisfaction having completed your “final” ? piece of motive power ( superb build ) and now moving back to the layout John.

Interesting to see your decision about the crossing gate mechanism, but seeing and hearing the operation there seems to be a real human interaction now which I certainly would find very satisfying, I hope that you do too ?

Once again I look forward to watching progress and trust you are now feeling well.
