  1. I have been offline for a while fixing my Asus PC with the errant update. All done now, thankfully It was a minor problem for me. After the update was installed, not noticed at the time, on boot up, the PC reported a CPU fan error, press F1 to continue and it cleared each time. I have been busy so was just another task to do later. When this report came to me I thought it was now important to do. Now, without the update the fan fault has been cleared. I will be more diligent next time.
  2. More Microsoft musings, this time the question is "Are they really a Company without ethics?" http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2016/05/04/microsoft-warns-windows-7-boot-up-problem/?utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=yahootix&partner=yahootix#15e86215395e
  3. EU can't do anything. The link is from you to Microsoft, they can winge all they want but it is out of their jurisdiction.
  4. If you think Win 10 is really good then read this. http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2016/04/29/free-windows-10-cost-expensive-secret/?utm_campaign=yahootix&partner=yahootix#55f9eed9403f
  5. I wouldn't, far too many spalled Victorian bricks. Old Victorian properties are made from soft bricks called stocks ,which are prone to erosion due to the weather and by being neglected. Seeing the extent of damage already, weather pointing and repair of these properties is very expensive. Even the roof is getting attention right now Probably on the cards for demolition in a few years time.
  6. I assume you checked your spam folder. I found my email from Jamie in there after 3 days! Give them a call, they don't bite.
  7. A more likely scenario is that it just fell off. I have had mine for a while now and more than a half dozen parts have been found around the place. Each time there has been no adhesive on the parts. It would have been better if they sold it a a kit of parts, at least I could have done a better job of putting it together.
  8. It could be the decoder you have fitted. I have more than a hundred running, including sound, and some are impossible to get running well. If you swap to another, use a completely different make entirely.
  9. Using my loco on DCC, using NCE ProCab, it runs fine. Apart from the lights and changing some CVs to get it to run with lights in the direction of travel. Not their finest model/ moment. Contact is done through: Kevin Grindley Sales Admin Manager keving@Dapol.co.uk
  10. Last day of priority orders If you want to take advantage of this final day of preferential ordering, then please telephone us today on 01780 470086 between 10.00 and 21.00.
  11. I am fortunate to reside a few miles north of the premises and collected my locos. Having them mixed in with the Christmas mail didn't enthrall me one bit. My fleeting visit was timed and very short. They are working their socks off and have at least one new helper onboard. Those who are buying the model will not be disappointed, I can assure you of that. I am about to fit a Hall-effect sensor to one model but it looks so good that I haven't had the heart to undo the screws yet! However, Paul Chetter tells me that if you do fit one, the default sound is the Flange Squeal so all your curves can invoke that sound wherever you wish.
  12. I have to ask, if you can't fit any more in the space with modern injection moulding equipment and Hornby did 40 years ago, then are the Hornby grills really to scale?
  13. I got my sound equipped models today. Stunning is is not enough, I was lost for words to describe them. Even my wife was impressed with the detail. Who ever complained about the grill/ vent detail needs to look carefully at them, they are so fine that you couldn't fit any more slats in the available space.
  14. I read that when it was posted, but now the plot thickens, they are saying that regardless of the switches we enact, Win 10 continues to keep the door wide open. David
  15. I have a notification that it is there ready for my 64 bit laptop but I am not convinced yet. My main is still chuntering along. Meanwhile, I have been saving the press releases on the titbits making the install easier. BUT, today the latest info worries me. "" It also seems Microsoft keeps sending data to its servers via its Live Tiles. Windows 10 seems to download new tile info from Microsoft even if you clear all the tiles from the Start menu, and it uses unencrypted HTTP to do so. Ars argues that while the requests do not contain any identifying information, they shouldn't be made in the first place since there’s no corresponding tile for them. Furthermore, Microsoft might be collecting telemetry settings from Windows 10 machines even when such a feature is disabled. More disturbingly, Windows 10 appears to be able to make requests to a content delivery network by bypassing any HTTP and HTTPS proxies that may be set up by the user to monitor Internet traffic. Microsoft told Ars that whatever communication takes place between a Windows 10 computer and Microsoft is only there to facilitate the retrieval of updates. “As part of delivering Windows 10 as a service, updates may be delivered to provide ongoing new features to Bing search, such as new visual layouts, styles and search code. No query or search usage data is sent to Microsoft, in accordance with the customer’s chosen privacy settings. This also applies to searching offline for items such as apps, files and settings on the device,” Microsoft said. Ars says the statement is consistent with its findings. There is no query or search data transmitted. But at the same time the practice appears to be a bit on the shady side of business. “[if] Web searching and Cortana are disabled, we suspect that the inference that most people would make is that searching the Start menu wouldn’t hit the Internet at all. But it does. The traffic could be innocuous, but the inclusion of a machine ID gives it a suspicious appearance,” Ars wrote.""
  16. More like a case of not knowing how to take the chassis apart and resorted to levering it up with a screwdriver.
  17. Jim, I am a tittle concerned with the green of the stripboard and your soldering. Are you using an acid flux? When soldering electrical connections, you must use a resin flux preferably a cored solder. Otherwise the acid will ruin the wiring over time. I like everything else I see. David
  18. I finally received a copy of "Into the blue" from the publishers today, I am happy with my copy having noted some of the comments written recently. I was concerned enough to write to the publishers and sought reassurance if I was disappointed, to have my payment returned. Now that I have quickly looked at the pages, I note that there is a slight blue tinge to some of the pages. Not being an expert in these matters, I have to say the " considering the age of the original slides " they did a pretty good job. And, no I haven't any connection to the publishers! Well done to Tony for sharing them with us. Another one or two more to come perhaps? David
  19. The £250 starter is a none starter for me. The image doesn't show the number #067d on it so it must be a fake.
  20. Try this one. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Zimo-8-Pin-DCC-Sound-Decoder-for-ViTrains-Class-47-Diesel-Loco-/161655226148?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item25a366ff24 Used, at a knockdown price of £150 New from Rail Exclusive for £99.00 incl. Beat that for a real bargain.
  21. On a slightly different tack, this my offering, so far, of an 8F in progress following a "Master Class" with Tony. Bearing in mind that it is my very first attempt at a DJH metal kit and following a stroke which has left me using the wrong hand now. Thanks again Tony.
  22. Far too much for me but for others, the sky is the limit.
  23. Jivebunny speaks with forked tongue I think.
  24. At St Ives Cambs, the railway was removed by Mr Beeching many years ago. The later/ former transport minister/ boxer/ idiot, wasted millions on a new busway to get commuters into Cambridge. It was many years late, had no end of problems and the Council refused to sanction it's use and sued the contactors. Only then was it opened. I can't use it myself because it is too far away from here and I would need to start using the first bus of the day with another change of bus just to get on the busway. It is easier to drive to the park and ride near to the City from here. Before Beeching I could walk to the Station and make one change and be at the centre of Cambridge in no time. That it is progress.......
