Finally managed to get through to BA to arrange a refund. Hell's teeth, they don't make it easy!
BA have advised that payment will take around three weeks or so. The real frustration was in getting it initiated in the first place.
You can request a flight change (ha bloody ha!) or a voucher online. You can arrange a refund for seat allocation online. But a refund for a flight that they cancelled requires a call to their understaffed call centre.
And once you do finally get in the queue, rather than being booted off automatically, you have the joy of listening to the most patronising messages on constant repeat.
