  1. Come in from the Waterloo Bridge road and walk right down, passed the big green doors into the W&C line depot, along from that was the BRS repair shop, next to that was the ODM workshop being on the left, over in the corner was the BR stores ( Drivers bags, cleaning gear etc )

Then round the corner under the telephone exchange was our other workshop that repaired battery platform sweepers and the BRUTE tugs.

The 'other bit' by the Armstrong was the lighting department, next to that was the 'Plans arch' and the 'Lamp arch' which repaired the tail lamps.

  2. I intend to use single LED's both end's, so using a  Laisdcc 1K Ohm 1/8 SMD resistor board with it to save space.

That's certainly one approach. But, what is it of the single LEDs that are going to use on what of both ends?

Anyhow, let us know how you get on!

Oh, and when marking a sub forum as read, the page stays where it was on screen rather than scrolling to the top.

  5. getting down with Emojis could get you into trouble.... a member of my team messaged me saying a member of her family had passed away and she would be sorting out things for next few days.  Thinking "i get this emoji" lark i pressed the "heart" button which on here means "friendly supportive" but it turns out on my work comms account means "i love what you just said"... a quick follow up apology was sent to assure her i am not the most insensitive boss of the century... damnit i think i'll just stick with words

  6. Thank you Andy.

Have noticed this @ plus name thing on a lot of blog replies but have no idea how to work it.

You learn something new every day, eh Peter?

One day, perhaps you'll even get to grips with using PM rather than public status messaging.

Thanks for sharing, Peter. I was born in 1964, and who could've known that, only 56 years later, I would learn of your geology field trip in that very same auspicious year.

Is there a way of letting Sir Tim Berners-Lee know how many lives he's touched in this way?

Well, that was sooo obvious.

There really should be an emoji for sarcasm. Why isn't there one already?

At the top of the member's profile there are two buttons, 'follow member' and 'message'. Use that second button.

Below that is a text box that says "Write a public message on {member}'s feed...". Don't use that, please!

  20. You wrote a message last summer about fish traffic at Folkestone which included traffic from S. Wales.  I asked a question on here a few weeks ago about this traffic, as I have read that some of this fish  was exported to France (specifically Paris) pre WW2. I got some responses but not hugely helpful.

Do you have any idea what rolling stock could have been used, or where I could find out.  As far as I can tell, GWR had no cross channel rolling stock.  Renault & Citroen  exported kits of parts for their cars to Slough for assembly there , but I can not believe that the returned stock would have been used for this.  Ideas??

I hail from Folkestone. I remember my parents coming home from the harbour fish market with a baby bath containing a cod so large that its head and tail would not fit in the bath.

But we never had Oxydol soap powder. Strange that.
