Well Raido (another new entrant) sell their stuff singles in 00 - as do Hornby, Bachmann (when it comes to steam era stuff).

I get that selling them in multiples of 3 might make them slightly cheaper - but are you seriously suggesting they wouldn’t sell if the price per wagon was higher?

Yes. And renumbering the duplicates is a right royal PITA. The great thing about multi packs is the variation in running numbers.

Always late to the party..... anyway may I add my delight at this announcement. I hope the models are slightly tidied up and the minor faults with the D sorted before final production. That said though I'm prepared to accept slight problems on an RTR model as they would still be infinitely better than my attempts at kit building.

Any RTR model will be infinitely better then I can produce.

My only concern is that they get the Maunsell green right. I'd hate for it to clash too badly with the rest of my Hornmann/Bachby SR fleet.

How about the three Southern Railway Maunsell prototype diesel shunters ?

These had the interesting angled overhanging rear cab windows presumably to let the crew see the shunter coupling up.

Quite long lived with four liveries:

    Southern black with Maunsell lettering.

Yep. Along with  the Class 30 (electric) that's the only loco on my wishlist.

I too automatically thought that the loco would be part of the National Collection when I was awaiting the announcement video! Rails has set a bit of a trend in recent times in this respect.

There's a compact and bijou cluette in the announcement:

All versions are available to pre-order now with just a £30 deposit.

Just one, not-so-minor point, Oliver. I think that the pricing on RoS is misleading.

I take this to mean £166 of which a £30 deposit is required, not £166 PLUS an ADDITIONAL £30 deposit.

Perhaps it's just me, but it could be more transparent.

  6. This looks far more imposing than the D Class!

According to SEMG, 1749 was rebuilt 1921 by Beyer Peacock, and 1741 was rebuilt in 1927 at Ashford.

Decisions, decisions. SWMBO would kill me for either one of them, so is it a case of in for a penny, in for a pound?

It's a shame there aren't any pictures, or even diagrams, of the individual items.

Indeed would be nice to have some diagrams or pictures.

Agreed. I wouldn't buy them without more research. But they remind me of my childhood growing up in Folkestone.

Pity they didn't bother to proof read what they post on social media - the first paragraph doesn't make sense.

And the third paragraph: “Snap one up” is a tad unfortunate in light of the damages shown here.

If a new product is promoted on TV, it goes without saying that it will generate a lot of interest (i.e. orders) in that product and that puts the onus on them to hit the floor running.  Has Hornby missed the mark here?

There’s a lag time between filming and broadcast. Perhaps the intervening period was busy for them?

And from what people have said it was hard enough getting into the 1:1 version, this one may require brute force and ignorance.

A significant advantage over the 1:1 version is that you can cut your passengers’ legs off to make them fit. This tended to be frowned upon, even by BR management.
