  1. To be encouraged. Son and I just came back from a ride and it’s always a tonic.

  3. So, farewell Wingnut Wings, closed for good it seems in April.

They made great WWI plane kits. And, for a while, Peter Jackson could be thought of fondly as doing something other than multi-installment screen hogs.

    Looks like I'll never get a W.29!

  4. Lost the service book for my car 2 years ago. Today I found it

  10. Hi there. I sent you a PM a few days ago. Just wondered if you'd seen it.

  15. Having changed computers all my old software was out of date and it has taken me some time to get organised with replacement programmes. So, my apologies for taking so long in expanding on my problem.

Because of my medical condition, I had to outsource the construction of a layout (8ft x 4ft) on a movable trolley with track in position and wired up ready for use using DCC. I did not think ahead successfully and now have a spare Metcalfe Single Engine Shed. One corner of the layout has a short spur and I thought I could use up the space to site this engine shed with the addition of a single length of curved rail. Unfortunately, I cannot physically make any alterations to the underneath wiring nor, with my lack of knowledge, do I wish to risk causing myself future problems!

I assume that it is not a matter of simply attaching the new rail - life is not that kind. I have considered positioning the short additional length of track (suitably  ballasted) with no physical or electrical connection to the existing spur (say a 1mm space between the rail ends). Obviously there would not be power to the short extension but I am happy to leave a "parked" locomotive or wagons poking out of the shed. Just to do something with the surplus shed and for a visual rather than working effect.

I hope that my lack of knowledge will not cause problems and that I have come up with a valid method of getting a result. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

  17. I need help people. I'm new to modelling but i've read lots, been to plenty of shows, and always been good at scenery... but i'm struggling with DCC electrics. I've acquired a 1.3m end to end TDM layout that needed upgrading and i'm extending it to 2.5m length with a new section (shown in the photos). It's 00 gauge Peco code 100 track with electro-frog points. I've acquired a NCE Powercab but will control the points off switches (more fun). I've laid and wired the track to a new DCC bus (thicker cable). Before i connect up the points wiring i want to check the track runs ok so i connected it up to the Powercab. However it's shorting out. Is this because i've not connected up with electro-frog cables (which are hanging loose underneath) or at this stage are they irrelevant? I've checked the layout, vacuumed it thoroughly and cannot see what the issue is. I've used track insulators as Peco advise on all points. I've attached pictures of the layout. The right hand rail (as you look at the photo) is always 'positive', the left always 'negative'. I've also shown a close-up of the Y-point so you can see how i wired the frog wire (this is where Peco advised me to). I'm concerned i may have made a fundamental error somewhere..... :( If what i've done looks and sounds ok then how do i find the cause of the short? Any help really appreciated.
