  1. Far be it for me to disagree with you Graham, and I rarely enter into these debates, but the boiler handrail around the smokebox has a distinct lustre to it that suggests brass, not black. Also note the shadow is more brown.
  2. IMO, it's only the toy trains that are at all relevant to the BL brand moving. The man himself is long-dead, and irrelevant to the majority of people...those who don't have a bona against him, that is.
  3. And I bet the other locos in the scrapyard scoffed at its “I’m so pretty” frippery, for between the buttons and behind the bows it was no better than them after all.
  4. Agreed, Rob. While diversification can strengthen a business, more frequently it just dilutes focus and energy.
  5. This was my concern when I first heard about it. A proprietary challenge to something that's already widely accepted. It'll all be over in five years' time.

My LMS is a mere 15 minutes walk! However, they don't stock 4mm railway models. For that, my nearest model shop is about 400 miles and 5½ hours away.
  7. She was, apparently, one of the wives of Herod the Great. Nevertheless, it still sounds more like a Wackypeedeeyah fact than a QI one. Still worth a laugh anyway.
  8. And he never got a telegram from his wife.

Yes, there have been some quite amusing clips released of the Queen making Zoom calls, and clearly enjoying it.

Sad that of its self, it would have been a very good chance for an in family joke.

It appears that, despite her move to IT and Zoom, Betty will still nip down to the post office should you wish:

  9. It would take the most obsessive of super-detailers to install a crew member reading a newspaper with his trousers ‘round his ankles. I wonder if anyone’s done it?
  10. My reading of @Podhunter’s dilemma was not the number of nuts, but the unwanted coupling rods that come along for the ride.
  11. Or you could apply rivet decals and then overpaint them. @cctransuk’s reply, two below, gives the link.
  12. Damn and blast Hornby and their listening to feedback. Looks like that saving was only short-term after all
  13. Tampo printing. Either that or you’re referring to the super absorbent packing that Heljan use.
  14. Marvellous. Now that’s proactive customer service. Thank you.
  15. If it's not a naive question, what's wrong with renumbering this one? http://www.locomotionmodels.com/coming-soon/english-electric-type-3-nod6700.htm
  16. Since Hattons are a commercial entity, I'll hazard a guess that it reflects what sells well and what doesn't. It would be more likely be that consideration that drives a re-run, rather than any (perceived) general reticence in doing so. If you consider that yo be 'nit-picking', so be it. (shrug)
  17. I had tried to link to Dave's post on page 47, specifically: So, no, I don't know what you mean!
  18. And yet, just two threads down: Unless I’ve missed the point. It happens
  19. *sigh* Did you not read Ben’s earlier post addressing this? He gives clear advice to return any offending items. It’s not like Heljan are thrilled about the situation either!

I still stand by my earlier recommendation of Kernow, also.
  21. If what you say is true, that the driving force is no longer there, then with other competitors entering the market, some actually focused on 2mm, I’d say there’s little reason for Dapol to take N seriously. Just run the tools ‘til they’re done. Done.
  22. Crikey. I’d be too scared to paint a driver to go in up against that!
  23. Great work, Jack! One thought occurred to me. Rather than having the model continuously rotating, it might be more informative to focus on a still image of each modification as you discuss it. It took me a moment to figure out what “stips” are! (In my defence, I should state that I’ve just gone through the annual performance appraisal time-waster, and my employer’s HR uses 'STIP' as an acronym for something that I don’t care about, so it’s a little stuck in my brain)
  24. @jay*bobble, banging your head against the keyboard is not an effective method of communication. Your posts are borderline unintelligible at times, which makes them difficult to read, so most people won't bother. Andy has given you some useful advice to address this limitation. The rest is up to you.
