  1. It’s dark and wet the trains are on strike... but everyone is still here anyway..
  2. Perhaps you could do 92020 Milton in its 2001-2018 period... Solves the pantograph issue nicely. :-) Despite it being 25 years old, to think until 2019, no one of less than adult age would have seen it working... It was built at the same time the A1ST were collating drawings, and went in to storage before 60163 had its wheels under its frames, yet only returned as Tornado is reaching the years towards its first boiler overhaul. Indeed 92006 in Glasgow was a new spot for me in service, last week, and I saw them being built, yet it had been idle since the around the time Class 87’s were still in service.
  3. I was thinking to quote the first post and insert the list of older toolings that have existed in life before Bachmann... but could you imagine scrolling through that !!!
  4. Making a new tooling to compete against an old tooling is nothing new... The Accurascale class 55 is the 4th such tooling replacing the Dublo, Lima and Bachmann ones. The Dapol Western is actually the 5th such tooling replacing the Trix, Hornby, Lima & Heljan ones Finally the new 6th !! generation Heljan class 47, replaces its own earlier tooling, plus those of Bachmann, Vitrains, Lima & Hornby prior... At one point 4 versions of class 47 were on the shop shelves competing next to each other! Its just a reflection, that some classes are popular, and if a tooling gets older, and the incumbent manufacturer gets a bit cheekier with the price, someone will come and have a bite. Its worth pointing out many of Bachmanns toolings currently being sniped, were themselves a product of sniping Limas downfall. Whilst you may be licking your wounds over expenditure on Bachmann 37/47/55 .. some models are high branch fruit... the Trix 81 and 124 are unchallenged 50 years later, The Lima class 20/ 31 & 67 still holds its own against what you paid for them.. its likely several Bachmann ones wont be challenged either for some years, like the 03/04/43/85/90.. It is cyclical though, At some point, the low hanging fruit runs out, and manufacturers needs to climb higher branches to thrive.., I for one am hoping tomorrow’s Big announcement is continuing the theme of the mk5’s and focussed on modern image (2020 style, not 1980s style), Whilst retooling is nice, when youve grown a forest its not so easy to cut it down and replace it overnight, and often you may skip a generation and focus on the new fauna growing in the gaps instead... Ive still got over 30 Lima 47’s on my roster, but just 1 of Heljans prior 47... I skipped ViTrains / Heljan and went for Bachmann replacing them 1 for 1.. indeed Bachmann 47’s will still be in my shopping list tomorrow, and i’m actually back in the market for Lima 31’s* despite their age as its clear that Hornby has it sown up and isnt exploiting them, and it is appearing too hot for a competitor to take. * depending on Warley tomorrow, which I see as a last hope.
  5. Theyve already said its going to be big.. They mentioned T gauge... They mentioned Modelu... join the dots... I bet its going to be the first ever OO gauge model of a OO gauge model train :-) Complete with range of OO gauge Modelu passengers holding it in their hands. an Accurascale box is what 30cmx15cm... thats 2mm x 1mm in OO scale... Thats a big box !
  6. i can think of 2 very recent examples of very small MOQs on printing... Brawa produced 50... of the Polish railways 2-8-2 class pt31 in PKP Green and PKP Black.. fully printed, numbered and lined... they cost upwards of £350 each.. Bachmann produced 25 of the 6 preserved A4’s in BR Green in as withdrawn condition, inc valences, tenders etc in 2013 for the Great Gathering, priced £1800 for the 6. All are like gold dust. if low volume numbers are to be considered, maybe this is something individual retailers, rather than Accurascales main range could offer ? Though the DRS 37/4’s arent all the same, even if the livery looks the same.. that maybe more tricky.
  7. I put a high degree of thought in to my plan for Saturday at Warley... Ive consistently spent a 4 figure sum each year, often as a source for projects (rather than new releases) for my modelling projects next year. Indeed the only 2 new releases on my shopping list is a “Planet” industrial shunter in 4mm from Narrow Planet, to represent as the National Benzole Shunter at Bury in the early 1970’s, and R4901 Mk2 Test train coach, which i wasn't going to buy solo and pay postage on. My wish list of items, subject to price & availability is considerable though.. Ive got 2 items quite high on that list with a tip off about one of them tomorrow which is going to be my early target. Usually always theres an unexpected surprise find too. My usual modus operandi is, targetted hunting on saturday morning, followed by scouting the shops generally in the afternoon. Sundays, is all about the layouts and take the family with me. so my plan starts in red for the first pass at early doors, followed by blue and green... military precision... if you want it and its limited.. at Warley its so big its the only way... never arrived after 915, never left before close, never sat for more than 45 mins. That said this year, for the first time, the Bachmann returns stand isnt stop number 1. i’ll see you at the doors in 10hrs and 7 minutes.., Heljan stand at 09.15:30 arr, 09:15:40 dep (return later) Accurascale at 10:15 arr.. departure tbc. Spoons at noon for the Rmweb drinks / half time natter ?
  8. Oh they do... Heljan always have a few nice ones, last year the Mr Jones himself sold me a few class 07’s, 86’s and 27’s, then as he put them in my bag, informed me Heljan were making new 86’s and more 07’s & 27’s... ;-) They are early on my Must Visit list, they aren't number 1, as I was given a tip off of another.. (and it aint Bachmann either), I’ll share whom & what after Ive filled my bag... so Heljan 0930, Accurascale 1015.. ;-)
  9. Oops apologies All, the perils of writing whilst travelling and not being around a few hours to correct it, Keefer and Davexoc are correct, so I removed my post. classixT all you can do is insult but no attempt to add value... I see that in the computer game thread too, sorry mate, but ..low value.
  10. I’d rather it be filled with super detailed OO HAAs and when you pull the hopper door handles, a few fall out into your bag.
  11. We’re the both moving in the same direction though ? i’m kind of puzzled at the kind of puzzled comments about the crash and derailment... Testing if something is crash worthy, is something you do in the design phase, and have signed off before you start manufacturing production examples.. or is that old fashioned thinking ? Surely the behaviour observed, should therefore be the expected behaviour, even if it looks a bit unexpected to untrained eyes ? I guess the other question is about minor prangs (this isn’t a major prang in the big scheme of things), should be the time to repair.. if 800109 is out for any length, has LNER got sufficient reserve cover, to handle the quantity of incidents that may occur during the timeframe it takes to repair a unit... as knocking one out and going short doesn’t seem to be an option ?
  12. Easier connections there for Barwell :-) And I thought that was the hardest one.
  13. Ive made my plan for Warley 2019... In 2016, i made an attack and diversion plan for Warley... http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/107810-warley-nec-exhibition-november-26th-and-27th-2016/page-9&do=findComment&comment=2511540 In 2017 i made a game plan for Warley... http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/118587-warley-national-model-railway-exhibition-25th26th-november-2017/page-8&do=findComment&comment=2922562 In 2018, I went underground. so in 2019 its only natural I go overground... can anyone guess which shops I will be going to visit on my first three trips around the Hall on saturday morning....
  14. Gosh the 92 just seems to be kryptonite for China ! Good luck, we’ve not had a decent one since the Lima one disappeared from the shelves 2 decades back. I’m sure it’ll be good when it comes.
  15. i’m looking at the clue... Every accurascale picture is a clue... help me guys, check every window, in between the fan blades.... somewhere there is the new announcement ..... one things for sure, whatever is being announced cannot be O gauge... Ryanair luggage allowance isnt going to let it.. size or weight.
  16. I have a Triang 37 I can re-run the test, after Warley. I do agree Triang motors could run well, their downfall was ugliness and pickups, though dont forget the track... my track is very unforgiving.. its roughly laid, badly joined.. (some day i’ll make a cutsie scenic, but having done it twice, and with little time, I just have rough and ready)... on that aspect Triang would fail badly I suspect. The other aspect, as mentioned is gearing..Lima can jump step by step at slow speed, But at 22mins into, in that video you can see Hornbys recent (at the time of filming), class 71... at the same speed setting.. its all over the place... yet take away the HO, its operation is very good compared to its OO peers... which demonstrates the gulf of difference between OO and HO (but yet at the same price point.. the ET22 is the same rrp as the 71). I have steam locos like Rocos BR52, rh109 and s160, and Hollands NS3737, Brawas Pt31, they all run smooth as silk too.
  17. Just to add to the Rocket story... its just completed its “tour” and returned to York for 10 years.. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-49825385 I agree with you on Lancashire Witch, I mention it through historical significance... it was the parental lineage of Rocket, built for a railway that opened before the Liverpool and Manchester... however history has forgotten it when BR closed the line and Bolton council recognised its history by first building a bus depot and swimming pool on the site and later converting it to a shopping mall and car park striking it totally from history... chances are if Locomotion didn't survive it too would be forgotten. Leigh I think has forgotten it ever had a railway, let alone one the true first railways.
  18. Why ? Theres at least 3 replicas of Rocket in the US, 3 in the UK. Umpteen stamps, wooden models , live gauge models etc of Rocket... Theres a lot of global potential in Rocket... the working UK Replica Rocket has been overseas too. As for Locomotion, apart from it still existing, I dont think its more widely appreciated than Lancashire Witch of 1828... or Novelty, Sans Peril or Cycloped for that matter, at least with Lancashire Witch they could do 3 models of the same name... The BLR original, a Scot and a class 86.. which would cover the years nicely.... no.. I remain convinced Rocket is a more famous one, Lion could be quite marketable too, its much newer, but reckon it would sell well.
  19. can you suggest an alternative, more famous steam locomotive from the 1820’s ? or even the year 1820 exactly that would outsell Rocket ?
  20. my Hypothesis is based on a company seen to be forward looking... with a model from the 1820’s, Rocket is a certain winner, 1920’s reflects Hornby’s origins, and 2020’s represents looking to the future in its hundredth years.. I may just be wishful thinking... back in 2018, I was expecting a bit of hype of 50 years since the 1968 end of steam event, with some previously unreleased August 1968 locos instead we got those 60 years end of the big 4. We could always get a celebration of Hornby best sellers, in which case it might be an oversized 0-4-0 shunter, HST and another Scotsman. That said no ones announced an LNWR project yet, and theres at least two sets of rumours circulating in that zone, why LNWR... because Hornbys first trainset was an LNWR loco..., Binns road being in the LNWR heartland. https://www.brightontoymuseum.co.uk/index/The_Hornby_Clockwork_Train_(Hornby,_1920).. if I could be so bold, an LNWR Precedent would be nice, 790 is preserved, and Ive seen it running on the mainline.. so it wouldnt look out of place on mk1’s besides a class 40 either !.. we have to wait and see. http://advertisingcliche.blogspot.com/2015/03/Hornby-clockwork-train-december-1920-uk.html
  21. if they did that I suspect many would be happy... you can renumber / do it any way you like including post privatisation ones too..
