  1. On most preserved lines the station and on train staff check all along the train for anyone trying to get on or off and having problems with opening the doors.
  2. I spent 20 years as a Travelling Ticket Inspector and 17 as a Guard on the Mid Hants Railway. During that time the number of people who could not open or close the doors on the carriages was amazing. On at least half my duties I met people who were pushing the rubber door stops in an attempt to open a door! On one occasion I was asked by a teacher, who was leading a school party, to close the windows and turn the air conditioning on as it was too hot. She was most upset with me when I explained that having the windows open was the only air conditioning that Mk 1 carriages have. I have travelled widely on other preserved lines and witnessed the same behaviour at most of them. The public do not understand Mk 1 doors and unless the staff watch them carefully they can cause a dangerous situation at any time on a journey.
  3. Panniers will win with no blood anywhere. Just a lot of Jinty's sulking as they rust away.

I have teeth and claws that I will use to explain why I should not move if you don't understand the look you are getting.
  5. That tree is growing remarkably quickly given it was only planted yesterday!
  6. The more panniers, the better.
  7. I think you may need to count them again! I make it seven tankers.
  8. Those two coaches look great. I just hope they have central door locking or there could be problems ahead!
  9. Pannier in GWR Green every time.
  10. I was guard on one of that coaches trips along the line with the crane. It was a fairly rough ride and the inside of the coach made the outside appear brand new! I don't think any of the windows were plated over, just painted.
  11. crates not being emptied!
  12. It is NOT a model, it is a Muddle Railway.
  13. If you look very carefully you will spot part of a point in the top left hand corner of the photo. I had to look three times before my eyes and brain spotted it.
  14. Panniers are never up to no good, they are always good.
  15. The engine shed has two doors, just that recently one of them has not been on the hinges!
  16. I have been following this thread for over six months and have often wondered what the full layout plan is. Tonight I went back to page one and found mention that you could not find the original plan but intended to draw a new one. Having looked at the first four pages of the now 721 pages I have not found it. So could I ask which page the plan finally appeared on or could you repost it, whichever option is easier for you @KNP. Many thanks for the inspiration you give all every day.
  17. Where would that be?
  18. That is not a B set as the first coach does not have a brake compartment.
  19. If you need to ask, you are better off not knowing.
  20. I know this may seem political but please note I am not blaming a particular political party just making a general observation about how politics seems to work. Has anybody else noticed that as we move closer to a general election all of a sudden there is lots of talk about the Bakerloo extension and railway openings around the country. As usual the present government will not be faced with the bill but that is something I have seen throughout my life with governments of all parties. Sadly rail transport suffers from the fact that upgrades take a lot longer than the politicians in charge are in office and therefore they often do not see any benefits for themselves. We can only hope that our political system can sort out the problem of long term projects with short term political terms.
  21. Cornflakes boxes always used to be mentioned years ago. I can't think of anything better. Good luck.
  22. Best wishes for tomorrow and the future. Never feel that you have to rush back for us, just look after yourself.

When I was a teenager I had a wonderful ginger cat, Sandy, who used to to do that whenever I was operating my TT model railway. Brings back some wonderful memories.
