  1. I can now confirm receipt of the book and will read it later when I have completed my chores!
  2. Strathwood have confirmed despatch last week. I guess the Bank Holiday weekend has delayed delivery. Looking forward to it!
  3. Still awaiting delivery from Strathwood. Has anyone else experienced delay?
  4. Mechanical stokers were fitted to some 9Fs but had a tendency to jam, per Terry Essery's Saltley Firing Days.
  5. Just ordered from Strathwood with 25% discount.
  6. I didn't vote in the last poll as I don't know enough about GW wagons, though I did make a start by downloading codenames, and am perhaps unlikely to buy any for an ECML layout. However, I have just finished reading Michael Harris's book on GW coaches so will at least be able to recognise the nominations in the next poll! The polls and discussion do provide a source of entertainment and help us improve our knowledge, if not our jokes, so please continue them.
  7. And the future direction would be determined by the Polling Station Box!
  8. Thanks very much to Brian and Gilbert for these polls. I'm scratching my head to try and think of another! Infrastructure came to mind but I can't get much further than somersault signals, water columns and fencing (already available from Isinglass).
  9. Beautiful weathering, and good to see an A5. Thanks.
  10. "Under the age of 64 it is 0.75% or less, from 65 to 75 it rises to 2.5%, from 75 to 85 it is 8.5% and over 85 it is 28.3%! (data from the European Journal of Epidemiology. 35 (12): 1123–1138)." That's a bit worrying! Plse was any distinction made between those who have been vaccinated and the remainder?
  11. 1,2,3 and 5 for me, please, all would have been around at the time of my ECML layout (1938ish). The P2 is from the same era but I would suggest that, at that time, some of the ex GC 4-6-0s would have been more likely visitors to PN. I'm assuming the B2 listed is the B17 rebuild, hence for me, Valour, Sam Fay or Immingham would do nicely!
  12. I have a backlog of kits of LNER and constituent prototypes to build before attempting those of other companies but have bought/ordered good non-LNE RTR models to improve the authenticity of my goods stock.
  13. Not being a GW modeller but interested in improving the authenticity of my goods stock, please could someone advise whether iron minks were common user or not? I can't remember seeing photos of them on, say, the ECML - but then I wasn't looking for them!
  14. I currently have models of all of these, though the A5 is in tiny pieces and is perhaps unlikely to run again, hence that would be my first choice. I could be tempted to an upgrade of any of the models listed if produced RTR to modern standards. I wonder if the imminent 100th anniversary of the preserved N2 could persuade Hornby into a new model? Maybe they could use their expertise at reproducing a teak finish by teaming the N2 with a model of the quad-art set preserved on the NNR.
  15. Did the concept of little green men originate in the US/Internationally, or did Dan Dare's battling with the Treens in the much lamented Eagle give Fleet Street a convenient label?
  16. From the items listed, 9,10, 2 and 1. For a departmental item - and assuming the Oxford Rail crane comes to fruition - a match truck such as the code 136 vehicle reproduced as a drawing in Tatlow's LNER Wagons vol 4A (maybe a 3D printed project for someone?).
  17. The bogie brick wagon was one of Triang's best models in my opinion, and i am surprised at the long absence of a RTR version. Like others, I have several awaiting upgrade and a couple of Parkside ones on the layout. Wagons like Weltrols have a certain fascination and probably sell more than their prototype numbers would warrant. For the poll, my choices are 2,5,6, 8 and 10.
  18. We are still operating a 3 day quarantine system for mail and deliveries eg we have just opened Monday's post. Do others still operate such a system or have they discontinued it in view of apparent limited contact transmission?
  19. My wife's Skoda Yeti has a vast assortment of electrical tricks to play, which of course all all disappear when the garage runs diagnostics. The current favourite is a jamming tailgate, usually with the dog crate and piles of luggage in position to obstruct the emergency release access. But the one I liked best was on one stop/start journey round the M25; every time I changed into 2nd gear, the door locks all "clonked".
  20. A generation thing - I thought of "Songs for Swingin' Sellers"!
