  1. Tony, A RS or ST? I have one and maybe able to help you with the radio. Cheers Lewis
  2. Have a look at this: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/19643-mk1-1957-prototypes/
  3. Hi all I have been sorting through a huge pile of photos that have been gifted to the locomotive society i'm involved with (34081 92 Squadron for those interested!) and found these that i thought you would like to see, they mostly appear to be from the BR and in some cases LNER photo archive and are labeled 'file copy'. E3082, the only one without a caption on the back. E1958, open 1st restaurant car,LNER Darlington stamp on back, dated 16 March 1948, file copy. E1984, open 3rd restaurant car, BR CME drawing office Darlington stamp on back, dated 10 March 1949, file copy. E1952, kitchen car corridor side, BR drawing office Doncaster on back, no date, file copy. E1706, buffet lounge car, LNER Doncaster stamp on back, no date, file copy. This coach is interesting as the E of the number is a different BR style font to the rest. E1257, 1st sleeping car compartment side, BR Doncaster stamp on back, file copy. And just for fun: 46478 GNR steel well wagon built 1907, carrying 44 ton loco, LNER Doncaster stamp, no date, file copy. There are loads more in the box of coaches and wagons, most appear to be works shots. if there is interest i'll post some of the more interesting ones? Cheers Lewis
  4. Hi John Did you manage to finish this at all? Regards Lewis
  5. Nicely done, I'm going to do a an old Bachmann B1 in the same way
  6. Hi Tony I think the two photos of three arch bridge north of Stevenage is just north of the halfpenny foot bridge, im not sure if it was six track there but the bridge does look like the one I go over most days to and from work, ill photograph it latter! Lewis
  7. I think you have achieved it perfectly Tony. Nothing dominates the scene it just all blends together very nicely and very releisticly Cheers Lewis
  8. Hi Tony, many thanks for taking a look at the well tank, apparently the motor should pop out so it can be adjusted so ill have a go removing the glue and seeing if I can get it to run! Cheers Lewis
  9. Mine does exactly this as well! Mine will be going back straight after Christmas with a 'please test the new one before sending it to me' note

    Research!

August 2016 Its been a while since my last entry with not a huge amount going on on the modeling front but I have spent some time doing some research into the Camel line and railways in Cornwall and Devon in general, I made a trip to Ian Allan over the bank holiday weekend and brought the following books: The Railways of Devon and Cornwall around the early 1960's by Michael Clements. A great book that has lots and lots of images with excellent captions that really give a incite into the railways around this part of the world, also included are quite a few very good quality colour photos that will help with getting some of the colours right on the layout. Branch Lines around Bodmin by Vic Mitchell and Keith Smith. This seems to be a very wise purchase as it has lots of information on the line that I am basing Nonstallon on. It as the track plan of Nanstallon Halt and gives some info on the station and its development, it did raise one question though, what colour was the pagoda station building? Was it chocolate or Green? And using the wonders of the internet I also ordered: The Bodmin and Wadebridge Railway 1834-1983 by Micheal Messenger. Another great book that gives the reader the full story about the development of the line and its overall history. Another one of my hobbies is photography and real railways, (I am a committee member for the Battle of Britain Locomotive Society, owners of 34081 '92 Squadron' and spend a reasonable portion of my time volunteering on the fundraising side and helping out on the engineering) so I made usage of Flickr to look for photos of Nanstallon, One of the photos that i found are linked below including the answer of the question of colour! it is Chocolate! https://www.flickr.com/photos/steamypics/19466290222/ As part of this research quite a few locos make regular appearances that I will need to model such as Pannier 4666 and Ivatt 2MT 41284 along with the obligatory Beattie well tanks and Adams 02's, i already have a few of these in my collection so renumbering and weathering should suffice. Anyone who has any infomation on the camel line and wants to share it please let me know!

    Mocking up

Mid June 2016 After the wonders of building an Ikea bed (4 hours and 69 pages of instructions!) i was left with a large quantity of cardboard. I started by putting this to good use by mocking up the layout full size to get a feel of what it will be like. For this stage I thought it would be a good idea to get the track that I will be using to aid in mocking up. I have never been a fan of set-track or anything like that, previously i have helped with the track work using Peco code 75 and this included re-spacing the sleepers that gavea more realistic finish. Ultimately I wanted something that actually looked like steam era bull head rail so I purchased some lengths of SMP code 75 from my local model shop (KS models in Stevenage). So to begin with I cut the cardboard to match the plan and laid out the track, then sketched out the general plan of the scenery I used a M7 and a Well tank with a couple of coaches and a van to see what the looked like from various angles The wonders of Ikea furniture mean't that I had a variety of different of different sizes/shapes of cardboard that try to mock up the elevations of the layout So far i'm pretty happy with what the layout will look like, I especially like the perspective of the lane disappearing into the back scene which will hopefully give the impression that the layout is larger than it is.
  12. June 2016 All of this started by the purchase of 'The Southern - West of Salisbury' by Terry Gough and particularly a photo of Dunmere Halt on the Camel line in Cornwall, something about this little halt caught my imagination and lead me to start to research the line! While looking through various books and the internet I came upon Nansallon Halt, here sparked the idea of trying to create a small layout that isnt based on just one location but it will be instantly obvious where the layout is set, as part of the internet trawl i came across 2ManySpams blog on from 2010 for a layout plan based on this area: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/18/entry-78-the-birth-short-life-and-death-of-an-em-trial-layout-idea/ After Chris gave me the go ahead to use the plan I've begun looking into building the layout to hone my skills and place the emphasis of the railway in the scene rather than just having the scenery around the edges!
  13. Nope very few locos had them facing forward, be didn't register two different crests so had their knuckles rapped and had to change them to ones that look left
  14. I'm attempting the same on a 5250gal tender so this has proved very useful! When you removed the area under the fall plate on the original moulding did you use plasticard to replace the that area or just cut away carefully? Cheers
