The professional class, lawyers, doctors, etc. and above in the social order could probably dress accordingly on occasion but most likely they would normally shop as we do. Most of us were brought up on school uniforms which provided the basics, even to the blazers and ties. This translated easily to the work dress effort which were worn till they became shiny with wear. It wasn't until I came to the US that I ditched smart clothes for more informal wear. However in this country there is a paucity of ready to wear clothes in my size of 29" pants and medium shirts, usually Polos as I dislike T-shirts, especially those with something written on them! But I still buy clothes from M & S as they sell the sizes that fit without alteration which often happens with local purchases even from the likes of Macys, etc.
I can get anything from M & S in five days via DSL, which is invariably quicker than ordering from the local Mall!
