  1. Conversely, if my wife and I go out to at a nice restaurant, we both dress up a bit so as not to let down those who have taken the trouble to 'look nice' as she puts it.😐 Brian
  2. The professional class, lawyers, doctors, etc. and above in the social order could probably dress accordingly on occasion but most likely they would normally shop as we do. Most of us were brought up on school uniforms which provided the basics, even to the blazers and ties. This translated easily to the work dress effort which were worn till they became shiny with wear. It wasn't until I came to the US that I ditched smart clothes for more informal wear. However in this country there is a paucity of ready to wear clothes in my size of 29" pants and medium shirts, usually Polos as I dislike T-shirts, especially those with something written on them! But I still buy clothes from M & S as they sell the sizes that fit without alteration which often happens with local purchases even from the likes of Macys, etc. I can get anything from M & S in five days via DSL, which is invariably quicker than ordering from the local Mall! Brian.
  3. Now why worry about petrol consumption when its umpteen degrees outside? Surely one comfort is more important! The A/C is on all the time on our casr, adjusted to the optimum desired temperature. Brian.
  4. The postie hasn't dropped anything for me from the UK for ages. What's going on over there? Brian
  5. I've yet to get another answer to the question we all ask; its a world wide excuse!🙄 Brian.
  6. Must be the day of bizarre experiences, I had a similar bizarre experience also! It was a warm day with the A/C on and in the evening watching TV sitting on the couch, I started to shake uncontrollably. I lay down on the same couch and my wife (bless her) found a heat pad and a blanket. After cup of tea and the rest of Father Brown, it all calmed down fortunately. All seems OK today but I have no idea why such a thing happened. Brian.
  7. Some of my girl friends looked like that, hat, handbags and all! Life was different then - no jeans in sight! They could have picked a smarter engine! 😉 Brian.
  8. Surely all MOTs are the same no matter where you take them. At least they should be! Brian.
  9. All is quiet in sunny GH this morning after yesterdays noisy fourth. The neighbours roof is finished so no more hammering so silence reigns once more. They copied our upscale roof going from a '90s brownish colour to a colour that looks like slate and as its a bigger roof than ours they must have paid more. The cost for ours was around K7, good job it doesn't happen very often but we had a paint job at the same time for about the same price but it all looks good now! Now to let the bank balance rest!😐 Brian.
  10. Still going on here in GH - one of the noisiest for ages. Its ironic as the local council has put a ban on fireworks due to locals complaining of being too loud! Brian
  11. Learnt a new word today - contrafactual! Never heard it before or even read it! Its not made up , is it?🙂 I've always pondered alternate endings or different outcomes I was a bit of an Amerophile when young and interested in all things American, big cars, John Wayne and particularly from the 'troubles' with the British. Slavery, WWs 1 and 2 and so on, until recently since when the US made some odd decisions, to put it nicely. Best not get too involved there! Brian.
  12. The sheep don't think its funny but they'll get used to the idea!🙂 On another note, its July 4th tomorrow and GH along with other towns now has a firework ban in place to counteract the hot and dry weather. Remains to be seen if such an affront to 'patriotism' will actually work. At least sheep and other animals including people would appreciate the peace.
  13. Healthy looking Bumble Bee you have there!🙂 Brian.
  14. What's up with the mail?  In the US, mail from the UK is very slow.  Mags are taking ages to arrive over here, some over a month!

            Brian.

    1. St Enodoc

      St Enodoc

      Much the same here.

    2. Regularity

      Regularity

And here. Prices are up, service levels down.

    3. Hroth

      Hroth

      Pretty similar in the UK!

  15. Devon lanes are notorious, especially those stone ones that are camouflaged by bushes and grass. They can do damage for the unwary even in small cars and I often wonder how we would get on in a car like ours, typical American size. They did considerable damage to a small car we owned back home! 😟 As for backing up, you'd better be good at it! Brian.
  16. A nickel a schtickel once went the rhyme - now that same schtickel will cost you a dime!😉 Brian.
  17. Don't ask me! I used View New content to get this far! Otherwise, its th Error message! Brian☹️
  18. Lovely pictures of a London I've never seen before.🙂 Brian.
  19. For some reason, all of a sudden I am unable to sign in to this forum! I go through the required process of changing my PW, then it tells me to sign in but when I do I get the dreaded Error message. This has occurred over the last couple of weeks. Why this happens is a mystery as this is my latest topic via View New Content Brian
  20. Two more annoying ads have appeared, one at the bottom left of the screen and the other on the right. Small but irritating! Brian.
  21. A thing of beauty! Sometimes I think that we have become beguiled with all the scale trains that expensively flood the market while littl gems such as this lie undisturbed for years.🙂 Brian.
  22. My organ repertoire is of the same period, 30's, swing, vocal pops, etc until about 1955 when it stops along with the emergence of rock 'n roll and whatever. Can do Beatles, shows and other contemporary music but nothing rappish - not my style!😠 Brian.
  23. Its as though everything is in alignment for Stubby's new layout. I would have thought that extra complications for running on a layout would have been desirable for operation. Would like to see it one day. Brian.
  24. The track with the 55xx tank looks in remarkably good shape for the year. Brian.
  25. Turned on the A/C for the first time this year. Not bad considering the years half over!🙂 Brian.
