  1. As we have not been able to deliver our annual exhibition this year we are pleased to be able to open our club rooms with minimal sensible restrictions between 11am and 4pm on Saturday 5th March 2022. All our current exhibition layouts will be running - Kimble (O), Duxbury (OO), Clarendon & Scrubbs Lane (P4), Kineton, Meacham & Toysley (N). Various other demonstrations and projects in progress will be on display and our library will be available for research purposes. If you have not yet had the opportunity to obtain one of the limited edition Myton Wagons that we commissioned to raise funds for our local Myton Hospices group we only have a few OO gauge examples remaining. We are pleased to report that all of the N gauge examples have now been sold. By the time of the open day we hope to have started the ground work on the site of the new outdoor large scale running track that we are expecting to start using later in 2022. Members will be available to discuss the project and provide guided tours of the site. Visit our website at https://www.lwmrs.co.uk for details of how to find the club house.

  6. One of our members on the stand was stung by a wasp outside and got the full treatment - he was relieved of the swelling and pain and very appreciative of the attention!!!
  7. So some good news from TINGS! The numbers may have been down but the good people who attended put their hands into their pockets to support our fund raising efforts for the local Myton Hospice group. By the end of the show we had sold or taken pre-orders for 80% of the wagons produced. Thanks also due to the traders who made a contribution in recognition of the club providing a test track for visitors to check their second hand purchases. We did spend quite a bit of time resetting DCC decoders back to default address 003! If you want to secure an example of the remaining 'N' gauge wagons you can email your requirements to myton-wagon@lwmrs.co.uk. You will be able to collect at Gaydon at the end of October where we will also have the 'OO' version available. With thanks to Phil Parker of Warners for providing the image and also to Avril and the Meridienne Exhibitions team for supporting our fund raising efforts.
  8. The N Gauge group of the Leamington & Warwick Model Railway Society are relieved that the N gauge version of our wagon project raising funds in support of our local Myton Hospices group were received from Dapol this week and will be on sale at £14 from the club stand (S) at the exhibition. We will be able to accept contactless card payments (preferred) or cash. If you are unable to attend TINGS this weekend you can still secure an example of the wagon, please email your requirements to myton-wagon@lwmrs.co.uk. Any residual stock and the OO example of the wagon will be available from the club stand at the ‘Great British Model Railway Show’ at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon in October. To secure a OO wagon in advance, please email your requirements to myton-wagon@lwmrs.co.uk. We are very much looking forward to meeting everybody again this weekend.

  13. 2021 Exhibition - a statement from the society management board. Regretfully, we have had to make the decision not to host an exhibition in 2021. We would normally start to commit funds to the organisation and advertising of the exhibition at this time of year. We are not confident that social distancing rules will be relaxed by next March and due to the age profile of the majority of our visitors we feel there is no guarantee that numbers will recover to pre Covid-19 levels. We are also facing substantial increases in the costs associated with holding our exhibition at Leamington College and we have decided that we can no longer continue to use the venue for our annual exhibition. We are therefore faced with finding a new venue for our event, which will take some time. We will use the time to fully evaluate how we can best move forward and, hopefully, we will be able to run an exhibition in 2022 at a new venue.
  14. We are sorry to announce that we have decided to cancel our Open Day on 21/03/2020 due to the worsening coronavirus.
  15. Break-in at the Model Railway Exhibition at Leamington Spa. Friday 6th / Saturday 7th March 2020. The opening of the Leamington & Warwick Model Railway Society exhibition was delayed on Saturday morning as the result of a break in at the exhibition centre where the event was being staged. Intruders cut their way through the perimeter fence before forcing an entry to a building. They made off with a considerable amount of new model railway stock belonging to one of the trade stands attending the exhibition. The stolen items were loaded into building material cube bags and a larger section of the perimeter fence was then cut away to enable the bags to be dragged away to a parked vehicle on a remote track running between the grounds of the venue and the river the police believe. The raid was almost certainly pre-planned and well executed by an organised crime group from outside of the area. (Other exhibition organisers please take note). Scenes of crime investigators attended and collected a number of items of interest left by the raiders. Police Officers are also collecting CCTV material for review from the venue and the wider local area. The exhibition was eventually able to fully open to the public at 12:30 pm on Saturday morning and has been open as normal today, Sunday 8th March 2020 from 10:00am. Leamington & Warwick Model Railway Society club members expressed concern that there have been a number of similar incidents across the country in the recent past but are pleased to report that on this occasion the intruders have not touched any of the models on display and no further damaged was caused.
  16. Following the incident that occurred overnight on Friday reported here and elsewhere please be advised that the exhibition continues in full today and will be open at 10am today as normal. Please do come along and enjoy our efforts to entertain you. As soon as appropriate a further statement will be issued with more details as we are able to release them.
  17. All go for setup starting tomorrow. Dare we say the weather looks reasonable. To all our exhibitors please have a safe journey and look forward to seeing you.
  18. Unfortunately Coventry Model Engineering Society will not be attending our exhibition this year.
  19. Unfortunately New Level Mill has had to withdraw from our exhibition. Best wishes to Mike for the future and hope he may join us next year.
  20. Late addition to the trade attending. Model Railway Developments will be there.
  21. More recently a picture has turned up with one of the vans at Edinburgh Waverley I seem to remember marked with the condemned symbol. Can't remember exactly where that photo was published if it ever was. There was a van still in existence in 2001 in a siding at St Quentin which it was understood at the time would be the subject of a restoration project. See International Railway Preservation Society publication Ferry Boat Du Nuit page 108.
  22. For those who watched Series 2 of the Great Model Railway Challenge did you spot our P4 layout Clarendon on either side of the advert breaks? If you missed it Clarendon and Scrubbs Lane is the club featured layout at our exhibition on the 7th & 8th March 2020.
  23. Unfortunately Online Models and Model Railway Developments will not be attending this year.
  24. Our new website is now online. Please see all the up to date info there.
