  1. A day off work again, and a bit more progress. I built up the frames to mount the poster boards, painted and fitted. Quite successful really. I've put an order in for some bits today, hopefully I'll be able to get a little scene together soon.
  2. I'm away with work for a few days now, a bit of theme for the coming months. But it did allow some time at home this morning to get 3/4 poster boards ready for the frames to mount them to the building. The Bristol and Minehead posters have meaning to me, but the bath just looks nice with the boat.
  3. Cheers Rob, I'm glad it's giving the feel of the prototype. Dom
  4. Looking fantastic as ever. Could I ask where the manual point Lever came from? It and the planking surrounding look wonderful. Thanks, Dom
  5. After the success of the other night's photo as well, I decided to take another shot showcasing the station building a little more. Seen below is 1504 pulling into the station.
  6. Given Coombe Town's 1950s heritage I felt the buildings looked far too clean and bright. So once I'd finished picking out some stones on the station building, it was hit with an overall coat of brown weathering powder and some highlights with white & smoke to finish the look. I'm pleased with the grubby feel so will be adding it to the Goods lockup in the near future as well. Poster boards next and then I ought to get an order in to Wizard models for fire buckets.
  7. Yet more rolling stock arrived today, in the shape of some of the Rapido GWR wagons. It's nice to get some variety in Stock to make a difference, looking forward to the LNWR vans with the high sides as well just to fully mix up the van fleet. Posted on the relevant thread, but really pleased with this image so will share here as well.
  8. Mine arrived today, ordered Saturday night, so impressive speed from RoS and Royal Mail. 2/3 seen here behind Rapido 15xx 1504 entering Coombe Town. They're nice wagons, think I'm going to have to stop messing about and get the weathering powders on these sharpish.
  9. I did manage to find time last to finish the tiling on the roof, including the ridge tiles. The York Model Making tiles do make life a lot easier laying an entire row in a strip. It just needs a coat of varnish and some weathering now. I also received some of the office furniture that a friend has printed to my design. Hopefully I'll get this painted up some time this week. The booking office desk and ticket Shelving at the back, and station Master's desk at the front. Next for the building itself is picking out some stones in other colours so I can get on and get the poster boards attached.
  10. As it happens, some time this week turned into, in about an hour... Front tiled, just the back and ridge to go The station building looks really at home next to the lock up now, really bringing the station together. I managed to order some N-brass poster boards as well before the business closed, which I think will really finish off the view from the front.
  11. Well it's been quite some time since I managed to sit down and model. I've been away with work a lot and it's only going to increase. Fortunately with a couple of weeks in England, it's time to sit down and crack on. This weekend I've managed to sit down and paint the stone chimney. Both are now glued into position with flashing applied and painted. The modelu guttering has also arrived and been painted, so hopefully there will be some time this week to begin tiling.
  12. Am I going mad or is that a Western Region number on the front coach? Is this part of the midland set or have I stumbled upon something?
  13. Not masses of progress in the last week, work is still busy and I did not appreciate how long chimneys took to build. Both now built, brick one fully painted, stone one now has base colour beyond the primer in the pictures. A view across the entire platform to show how the buildings all interact.
  14. Thanks Andy, bizarrely the photos of Broadway that I’ve been using as reference has vertical planking, with what looks like running in board posts. So much for standardisation I guess…
  15. I've managed to knock-up the basic roof structure, still a bit more to add to the underside before it's ready for painting though. I took a couple of pictures of it in position, just to get a feel. With a newly returned to service, 82020 on the layout as well. There's just something about the 3MT tanks I like, it'll be nice to see 82045 on the Heritage circuit in the next year or two.
  16. Thanks Andy, it doesn't look like the kit has the typical GWR conical top to the fencing though?
  17. Finally got a long weekend in, so a lot of focus has been progressing the station building. Firstly, finished the booking hall interior detailing on the central wall. Then painted and fireplace added. Full building exterior then glued together and base stonework painted. And a final shot showing the bathroom window and door now painted with frosted glazing fitted behind. I'm going to take a temporary hiatus from detailing the building now to get the roof and chimneys done to give a more finished feel to the whole thing while the slow work goes on. I'm debating the posts for the toilet fence doors, would the Wizard Models GWR station sign posts be suitable? Interested in hearing the thoughts of others here.
  18. Not masses of progress to report in recent weeks, work has been overtime since I returned. Thankfully that should be over for a while now. I did manage to have a brief half hour playing trains on Saturday, which led to one rather nice image. Now to keep plodding on where I can. Definitely need to get on with foreground landscaping as well, at least to paint level to get rid of that bright sculptamold
  19. Over the weekend I managed a load more painting for the front/end window on piece and base colour on the stone work so they could fixed in. I've also painted up one interior wall and couldn't resist posing the queue barrier opposite the booking window. Even from normal viewing distance it's noticeable for which I'm glad!
  20. Cheers Rob, Hopefully I'll make one or two, not sure how much I'll be in the country this year. Will be good to have a catch up if I do though. Dom
  21. Happy New Year All! Over the Christmas break I did manage some modelling time, taking the station building to my parents' to work on. Some progress looking through the window/door: Further progress was made yesterday, but photos to come once a bit more has occurred. For 2024, I thought I'd set a core goals list, it'll be a short one as life's up in the air but it focuses the mind somewhat. So in no particular order, I hope in 2024: Finish the station building incl. Interior, Lighting & External Signage. Finish forming the landscape along the headshunt. Install the last two ground signals & rest of the point rodding. Finish ballasting the layout. Complete the scenery along the front of the layout & in the immediate vicinity of the station. Finish the signal box. Depending on how things fall, hopefully the CAD for the Station Master's House will also be completed so I can order all the windows to be 3D printed for that. Hopefully, completing that list sets me up for a reasonably complete layout in early 2025, a mere 6 years into a 4 year project... Dom
  22. And one final post to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I am unable to do the wizzy editing on my phone, but thought I would do a brief comparison of the start and end of the year. There have been times this year when progress has felt glacial at best, which has only been pressed on by the support shown in this thread. So thank you all, for driving what has infact been a year of great progress for Coombe Town. I'm hoping 2024 will be another step towards the exhibition standard layout I aspire to! Dom
  23. Probably the last bit of progress for this side of Christmas. I painted up the barrier, mainly to see how the detail came up, which I am thrilled by!
  24. A bit more progress, with the first order of 3D printing having arrived for the station building. The quality of the prints is great so glad to have found a decent reasonable cost supplier in the UK. This is a representation of the barriers seen in GWR booking halls. I managed to get the coils and shelling to work in CAD, which has come up very well. The full set of parts, 2 internal doors, 2 fireplaces, the barrier + a double sided pint of the rear door so the detail is visible both ways.
  25. Merry Christmas Rob! Thanks for all the encouragement and conversation through the year, hopefully catch up soon. Dom
