  1. Thanks Kev, (and nice to meet you at Glasgow!) Are your "old" devices running the latest TouchCab, just with older iOS versions?
  2. Hi Syd, Appologies for the inconvenience. If you connect your iPhone to iTunes: Select your phone in iTunes Select "File Sharing" on the left Select "TouchCab" in the apps column Select "Configuration" (the one that you want if there are many. Select "Save" at the bottom right Then with your "new" iPhone Repeat the first three steps Select "Add..." Select the file you saved I hope this helps, and I hope to get this fixed soon. Thanks Mike
  3. Ahh! Although I do like the idea of fictitiously electrifying Aberdeen for model form!
  4. It has to be post 1988 I spoke with you guys in zPetth a while back but I’m looking forward to Glasgow. I’m currently planning a layout of Aberdeen, Vlayhills and the container terminal so hopefully you’re up for a chat! Perhaps Kirkhill3 can be on collaboration! My loft is 60’ so the scenic will be 2x 48’ which can be joined at an exhibition or setup in an L. This gives me 12’ diameter curves. Keep up the good work guys. I really enjoy seeing this layout and the recent article.
  5. Edit: Removed as most the post was cut off since the system does not like Apple Unicode emojis!
  6. Interesting. I’m currently in the planning stage of a new layout which would incorporate this turntable... How would I get my hands on this? Interestingly, the Ferryhill Trust are reinstalling the centre post of the turntable tomorrow (Thursday 8th Feb) and the refurbished turntable itself hopefully next month.
  7. As John says, make sure and look for iPhone Apps when checking history. There is a little confusion surrounding 32 bit apps! I'll try to clear it up... iOS 11 does not run 32 Bit apps. This means that Apple is no longer allowing 32 Bit ONLY apps on the App Store. However, as long as we are developing for an iOS that 32 Bit devices still run on, then Apple will upload 32 AND 64 Bit versions. As your iPad 2 is 32 bit, and on iOS 9, this means, as long as we keep developing for a minimum iOS version of iOS 9, then there will be BOTH 32 AND 64 Bit updates coming. Given there is no real reason for us to develop for iOS 11 exclusively, (there is no new technologies we need between iOS 8 and 11), we will be developing for the minimum iOS supported by the current Xcode, (which is iOS 8 right now, and will be 9 next year and so on), for some time to come. Also, unless a developer specifically makes an old version no longer available to re-download, you will always be able to download the "latest version that works with your device", meaning even if we launch TouchCab 4.2.3 for iOS 20, you'll still be able to download TouchCab 1.8.4 for your iPad 2. So, TouchCab will have 64 AND 32 Bit support for some time to come. After that, you'll still be able to re-download or purchase the last good version for your device, regardless of whether it is 32 or 64 Bit. The confusion is because of the panic "Apple are stopping 32 Bit support!" In reality, they are not allowing 32 Bit apps to work on iOS 11 and beyond. This is good, because it is forcing old apps to be updated. But it doesn't mean that 32 Bit apps will suddenly stop working on 32 Bit devices. I hope this helps? Mike
  8. No need to apologise I didn't take it as a criticism... Reading my post back, I may have come across in the wrong way - sorry. It was meant to be informative. Just for info, the 2014 iPod was only updated in 2017 to the 6th gen as far as I remember, so it should be good for a few years yet Thanks Mike
  9. 5th Gen iPods (2014 model year) can be purchased 2nd hand from £45. A DCC throttle is considerably more than this! On the other hand, if your iPod still works, then you have no need to upgrade. TouchCab 1.8.3 won't just stop working because the new version is launched . You may not get some new features as we add them to TouchCab, but would you get new features from an old dcc throttle? Or would an android phone get any better updates?
  10. Let's not get into an argument here, but iOS is simply better to develop for. There is just no argument to that. I do this as a hobby. So to spend the time to develop for thousands of different makes and models, and even the same models but with different chips inside, is going to take time away from my family. I'm not saying that I'm not going to do it... ESU do indeed have an android app, but they also have a team of employees who do that for a living! It's not really a comparison
  11. Ahh excellent. Sorry, I wasn't able to make the Inverness show
  12. Hehe I wrote this article a long time ago. To be fair, it is all true. But it is also a piece written for the club website. AMRC has nothing to do with TouchCab other than they use it. Android is being looked at, but all those points still stand, even more so today, so we need to weigh up the time versus the return. TouchCab is so simple to use because it’s so complex behind the user interface!
  13. Great news! I note you have a Scottish Layout - would you be interested in joining our Scottish Facebook Group?
  14. IT IS HERE! After a year and a half of work in the background, we have now launched TouchCab V1.8.4 to the App Store! While it may seem like not a lot has changed, we've been working on things in the background, and are already testing V1.8.5 with Beta Testers, and even later versions privately! So, what's new in 1.8.4? Updated UI to be more inline with the current iOS versions Built for iOS 8 and above, on 32 and 64 Bit devices Adapts to all iPhone/iPod screen sizes automagically ECoS is now discovered AutoMagically What's Next? 1.8.5 is already being tested with additional Language support 1.8.6 is being tested internally with some nice new additions 1.9.0 is in development with new features planned 2.0.0 is, erm, shhh - it's a secret
  15. Hi all, I thought I'd send a quick update to those not "friends" on Facebook... We have now got V1.8.4 sat "Waiting for Developer Release" for the App Store. This means, pretty much as it says! It is waiting for us to hit the go button! This is based on build 1.8.4.6 - there have been a few more builds since this pushed to Beta Testers, so I just want to check a few last crash logs before we do this... I'm also already testing 1.8.5 with beta testers. Some improvements will come to this release including support for Italian and hopefully some features may be improved or added. We are currently looking for help with translations, if you'd like to help, let me know, thanks! Mike
  16. Hi all, We have just had three app versions approved for Beta Testing which are now available for the Beta Testers to download. These are: TouchCab (The App Store Version - so this will work as an upgrade as if it was downloaded from the App Store). TouchCab Free (Again, will work as an upgrade) TouchCab Beta (To test new features but will allow you to keep your current "production" version should you need it). An App Store launch is just round the corner and we hope to get this out before September 12th which is likely when iOS 11 will launch. Thanks Mike
  17. The XpressNet implementation isn't quite right with JMRI. I've since found out some more info so am working to get things operating correctly with it. Thanks.
  18. I see this is posted a while back, but yes, the idea is you just connect wirelessly to the DR5000 with no other "stuff" needed. You don't need WiFi routers or anything, just the DR5000's built in WiFi to a tablet. The issue is there are no apps yet. TouchCab are working on supporting it directly with WiFi but as for Android, you'll need to wait a while I'm afraid! Currently, you have the option of connecting it to JMRI and then using Wi-Throttle, however, I am having limited success with DR5000 and JMRI right now...
  19. Has anyone managed to get the DR5000 working with JMRI using Ethernet / Wi-Fi and XpressNet?
  20. Hi, an old post I see, but I have just received my DR5000 from Digikeijs today. Out of interest, when did you post the update about the issue with TouchCab being worked on? How have you connected the DR5000 to JMRI? Is it via LocoNet on LAN, or XpressNet? I'm just away to hook it up so I can "try and fix the issue with TouchCab" - although the issue with TouchCab is not an issue really, it's that the DR5000 is not supported! (yet) Cheers Mike
  21. Thanks John, You are right in what you are saying. The next release will be a 64 bit update, with no feature updates. However, that does not mean there will not be feature updates coming after this. Apple will "remove" 32 bit apps from the App Store - but only for 64 bit users. So, users of 32 bit iOS's "should" still be able to see and purchase the "old" app. Users of newer iOS versions will see the new app. Even if Apple decide to remove 32 bit apps completely from sale, they will still be available to re-download in you purchases history in the App Store App. Interesting that you could see the App still, I couldn't! Having said that, I may have tried to look on iOS 11 which could explain it! Thanks Mike
  22. Hi, The app will not be developed any further for iOS 7 and before. This is in part because it is not really viable (testing is very hard given the lack of users on older versions of iOS) and mostly because as of iOS11 it is not possible to develop and submit apps for iOS 6. (It may be possible by using older Xcode versions - but who knows if Apple will accept these submissions). As far as I am aware though, TouchCab will still be available for download if you have already purchased, and should we manage to submit a version for iOS 6 or 7 using an old version of Xcode, then the 32 bit version will be updated. Apple are not getting rid of 32 bit apps as such, they are getting rid of 32 bit ONLY apps. The vast majority of our users are on the current available version of iOS, so we are releasing a version for iOS 8 and up. If we then find that a fix is needed for older 32 bit iOS versions, we will try to do something about that, but there will certainly not be any feature updates for older iOS versions. I hope this helps to answer some of your questions. Mike
