Oxford just sent me an email with their 2nd 2018 release. It has a different set of models than listed here. I'm a little confused.
Anyhow ...

The new tooling Burrell showman's traction engine caught my eye.
Wonderful news indeed. My favorite locomotive model from last year without a doubt and there were some outstanding models released last year.
One question: I was under the impression that ROD locomotives were black or dark grey but these are green. Is there evidence for the green? Were they returned to the UK in that color?
Thanks for any replies.
The Hornby wagon gray is a little lighter than 9816. In tone, it's a good match. The big difference is that the Hornby is brown planking inside (i.e. wood color), not gray.
They look really good together. Especially pulled by Hatton's P.
I thoroughly agree. Just received my SECR 3 planker and it really is a beauty. Already sold out at Hattons so we're not the only ones that thinks that.
Am I the only one a tad reluctant to put down a deposit?
I don't remember having to do that before with any of the other manufacturers pre-orders and given some of the horrendous delays there have been between announce and delivery, I'm very glad. I pre-order a lot and if its main purpose is to give them an idea of how many to make, I'm more than happy to oblige. But having to make a deposit makes me pause.
Just asking, I have never bought from Rails before (that I can remember) so I have no bias for or against them.
My two were delivered today to Arizona. On the layout within 5 mins. Lovely runners & look absolutely gorgeous esp 754 pulling rake of Bachmann SE&CR wagons.
FWIW found the #17's a trifle too short. Maybe one end 17 and the other 18 would be perfect? I was using the Hornby H and the Bachmann C for testing. All in SECR colors, absolutely gorgeous.
Thanks very much Phil. Another I will be ordering when I can.
Amazing to think I will be placing more Oxford Rail pre-orders than either with Bachmann or Hornby this year. Not that I was in any way disappointed with the other manufacturers. In fact, quite the opposite.
Of course in monetary value, OR will be in last place - maybe that has something to do with it :-)
Excellent news that the ROD Dean Goods is available without the gun.
I don't see any sign of it (OR76DG009) on Hattons or any of the other major internet suppliers or indeed on the OR website. Are you reading about it in a printed catalog?
Not sure abut "nothing can be done", is there not evidence that the manufacturers are taking note of the dissatisfaction with these ridiculously long lead times? i.e. listening to their customers?
That's pretty close to my layout. I run a rainbow mix of pre-grouping color schemes on a "preserved" line on the English south coast. I even have a station where it's Edwardian dress up day so I have a chance to display some period figures. The local auto club is always dropping by with their collection of steam trucks & traction engines.
I think the pre-grouping RTR scene has looked up a bit over the past few years. I've managed to acquire quite a few locomotives while cheerfully accepting some of the compromises in accuracy and I have far too many Birdcages on pre-order. And I don't mind paying the occasional premium for a club or LE model.
I'm optimistic about the future. Pre-grouping liveries always seem to sell out with maybe the E4 as an exception. I expect to see more.
Your shopping list is very close to mine but I would have ditched it completely if the SECR birdcages had been available. However B's loss is H's gain.
Mine has arrived and have been running it all morning. Wonderful model. Thanks Hornby.
I won't compare to the Oxford Rail version but I will say they look great together. You really can't go wrong with either. I feel lucky that I have both. Brexit is being very good to me, I'm buying quite a bit while the exchange rate is so favorable.
