    oooh yes !

there’s very few that fit this but three of them were Inverness legends… so far never been modelled properly…

Round buffers, exposed skirt and highland headlight..

Much time spent on Inverness, Wick, Thurso and Kyle steam heat services and later freight.

    37261 Caithness

    Nearing the top.

    37262 Dounreay

    Late runner to London

(Flickr URL/Not mine)… I was onboard this train which broke the snowdrifts and put the 158’s out of action ! - Just look at the snow build up on the cab door! as well as the ice down the tanks/bogies.

The highland mainline had been blocked by snow and saw 158’s stranded. This day saw 158’s and 156’s split, with 1 car from each combined, as 156’s had ploughs and 158’s did not. This required the units to be turned on the triangle at Inverness for the southbound working.

The alternative was an embarrassing reduced timetable as the 158’s would have to be removed from service, only months after introduction.. but by this stage the stock and 37’s/47’s had gone down south… 37262 and an 08 were the only 2 locos on shed… a pair of 26s took ploughs north and D5394 (Strathspey 27) was given permission to clear tracks around Aviemore.

incidentally I was told (unverified) the large round buffers were retained for the propelling shunt moves on passenger stock at Georgemas when recombining Wick /Thurso portions to go to Inverness.

37263 was also regular at Inverness, with headlight at the right lamp iron, but with oval buffers.

37264 had ovals and the car headlight moved between Mar -April 1985 from the top bracket position, to the more usual centre bottom, but was still a car headlight.

37260 was repainted into L/L livery prior to being named Radio Highland to mark the introduction of RETB signalling on the highland lines, named at Dingwall station 6/7/84 the first loco to operate RETB.

Ironically wish if od known Bachmann were gonig to Re-tool this model, 37043 would be ideal for "37104" their Railfreight general model, albeit a full respray and removal of the car headlamp

Has anyone got the model of 37043 and can share any pictures?

    NL

37043 would also require the BB cowels removed and the early glass split boxes converted to the later plated over type.

I’m seeking a bit of help info please. This question has probably been asked numerous times before but struggling to find clear answers in hundreds of pages of forums, especially as many now have missing photos (not a dig just a fact of life).

I have 37043 on pre-order with Rails and they seem to have some availability so may order a second one and I’m struggling around renumbering options and detail variances and how noticeable they are. I can see the cantrail grill extra strips on the likes of 37081 but I’m looking at locos like 37111 or some of the earlier numbered un-named examples that from photos don’t seem to have the extra grill strips.

Could anyone help with other detail differences that stand out and any that wouldn’t be noticeable please. I’m not a rivet counter but also want something that’s fairly accurate (ie grill strips are obvious).

Many Thanks and apologies to those that have answered these questions before, I’ve spent a while looking before asking this.

L/L 37027 may be one suitable choice to renumber 37043 to, apart from perhaps the riveted roof, not sure if both are single or double riveted ? and just how noticeable this would be anyway....

L/L 37026 also, but it had a Black roof, unsure if it was light Grey earlier ? same applies 're the roof rivets.

L/L 37012 another possible choice, it had a light Grey roof to start with but was changed to Black later. same applies 're the roof rivets.

    HTH

Perhaps A/S could list which locos had single or double riveted rooves ?

Is anyone aware of a source of transfers for the Intercity logos on a class 37 (particularly 37510), I have of course looked at Railtec / Fox / Modelmaster and as far as I can see none of them produce what I need.)

I have a set of the Fox Intercity transfers which has 3 different sizes, but the smallest on there is still far too big when held up against the model.  If there is nothing else I have a feeling that the largest size of the logo in N Gauge would be pretty close, so if anyone has a sheet it would be really helpful if I could have the length / width of them please

Foolishly thought these would be easy to come by before doing the repaint of 510...

If you can source one, the size you require is on the Howes INTERCITY sheet along with suitable black No's.

As I’ve got to swop the frame out and re-attach the bogies, cabs, pcb board etc onto the new frame, and as it’s probably only going to be semi permanently attached to 37025 with has DCC and sound, is it possible to run it without the motor and just a normal DCC chip in the pcb board?

As it’s difficult to match a DCC sound chip with a non-sound version because of their starting speeds, just thought it might be nice (and cheaper) way to run them together, both having their DCC lighting functions.

Anyone see any problems?  Please form a orderly queue 🤪

It should be possible, the motor could be left fitted but not connected to the board/decoder. Remove the drive shafts, so basically it's a dummy with decoder/lights. The decoder may require the motor connected to program it, and then disconnect it.

It was the very first split headcode blue one Bachmann issued, so which was version 1? (Possibly a post-privatisation livery?). I had one each of the centre headcode and split headcode versions plus the Kernow edition 37 142, all bought on release as the first Bachmann 37s in the livery I wanted. These are the no-lights 8 pin DCC socket fitted ones with the front four wheels on each bogie driven.

IIRC one of the very first Bachmann 37's was BCC D6607/37403 Ben Cruachan in BR Green, the 37/0's with buffer shrouds then followed ?

The blue one with the bufferbeam cowels would potentially be a purchase but it would need plated head code boxes. I’m chewing it over as I would need to get headcode box plates. However I haven’t seen any listed anywhere. Any ideas folks?

You’ve done a nice job on them but IMO the VITrains 37 doesn’t need Brian’s etches - just LaserGlaze.

Here was my first attempt using a VITrains tractor with LaserGaze:

Back on topic - a quick desk pic of the two new ones - this area is much nicer on the new one I think (although probably would benefit from some new glazing):

Looking forward to converting these to P4 and weathering them!

    Kind regards,

    Will

Would agree, the new Bach has the front cab window shape/size much better, the glazing rubbers being on the body also help.  The factory prism glazing rather spoils it all, .....Laserglaze would finish it off very nicely !

Just out of idle curiosity (being both idle and curious), is this the third version of the Class 37 from Bachmann, or have they done more?

Happy to be corrected, but think it's the 5th version/revision since first introduced.

Strange how the model railway world "influencers" could often save themselves some embarrassment by doing the bare minimum of research. Less than 15 seconds work turned up this from Bachmann.

"Building on the impressive specification of the award-winning Bachmann Branchline Class 47, the new Class 37 shares many common features such as the five pole motor with twin flyhwheels"

Although it is possible the flywheels/motor may be slightly smaller than the earlier versions, due to the redesigned chassis changes, as was the case with the very latest revised Bachmann Class 24/25....

Maybe the key word there. Not for me but I don't think it's nice to laugh at the idea of somebody choosing a Bachmann one over an Accurascale. It's a good choice for people to have.

We still don't know what the AS one will be like so it's a bit silly to ridicule somebody for buying a good model that they can look at in a shop and make a decision on.

Don't get me wrong, I think they'll be mint but that doesn't make the Bachmann a bad model.

Don't think anyone would dispute that A/S really delivered with their Deltic, sold out on pre orders/unseen. No reason to think that their 37 won't be just as good, again being almost sold out on pre-orders.

Personally I think Bachmann let the ball drop with their new 37/4 by continuing to use separate nose ends instead of a one piece body especially at the high RRP's.

Everyone has choices, but it's always good to laugh regardless !

    Correct!

We're working through raising balance invoices for deposit orders, and audited the preorders across trade, Eu and UK outlets, which will throw up a limited number of models available to buy (less than 20 in the case of any one SKU) that we can offer - these are Batch 1 models that are due to board a ship in the next few weeks.

    https://www.accurascale.com/collections/class-37/availability_pre-order?

Too be sure even more may become available, as some Bachmann fans may cancel and go for more expensive versions....but each to their own ! LOL....

Probably too much to hope for but I'd love an original 37/6 in EPS livery. Infact I'll take 2, sound fitted. An Intercity swallow 37/4 would be good too to haul the highland sleepers. And one or both of the Royal Scotsman liveried 37/4s. Oooo the possibilities with a 37, nearly endless. Certainly more than one manufacturer can produce, even making 15 variants every 18 months or so.

No 37/4's received Swallow livery, although 37/0 and 37/5's did

Might depend on detail differences. 081 had a different roof to 043, not sure about 027. Detail differences would also rule out 111.

081 was also an RSH build with the extra cantrail support strips

    Strange decision to duplicate L/L 043 ?

  15. The latest Bachmann 37 appears to be an improvement over the existing model, however I think it was an oversight to continue using separate nose ends, this being most noticeable on L/L liveries.

The one piece body/noses A/S versions being a better more convincing solution.

Ah, I was thinking about this earlier and wasn't sure if they were wired separately to the headlamp.

I have a Lokprogrammer so don't need the CVs but good to know I can dim them slightly without dimming the headlamp.

It's likely if headlights are fitted, they will be on the same circuit as the markers, so will also be dimmed, unless they are on a separate switched function key to the markers.

a setting that should have been there from the start. Any chance of sharing just the cv changes for this? I’m sure I can find out myself by digging in the v5 manual but if you could save me the hassle 😉

Auto on/off of the cab/control panel lights with movement was part of the original A/S lighting spec.....but can be added with a Lokprogrammer etc.....
