Sorry for delay in replying. The Hunslet loco is CWrailways on Kato mech and the vans are Bachmann 009 (have a good look at their range). The covered van is the SR version as found on Lynton & Barnstaple and the brake van is a rebuild and repainted of the open brake van on Statford Barn railway. Bachmann also have a Dean Hill Baguley-Drewry loco due for release. For RAF railways suggest the kit for 'Douglas' on the Talyllyn as that was ex-RAF Calshot. Trust this helps, Colin.

Andy, I note that the photo descriptions of the rebuilt loco state 65hp. So was the power increased from 60hp and the air cylinders added to give increased braking power to the increased horse power, please? Paul Lewin and his lads must have known this one to be the best buy when purchased in 2004! Colin.

Many thanks, Andy. I have a suspicion that this loco in the photo is the one now named Moel-y-Gest at Boston Lodge works no. 6659 . The straight nameplate with the back slanting lettered Hunslet is common to both and still carried by the FR loco. The last of the seven, works no. 7495, had a straight nameplate but with an upright and different style lettering of the maker's name (photo page 55 in "MOD Railways"). From what I can see from exisiting photos is that the other five always had the diagonal nameplate in RNAD service. Look forward to anything else you can find about these 60hp machines. Colin.

Thank you, Andy. Could this have been the first of the four in 1965? I say this because the radiator grille is 'plain' with 'diagonal' nameplate and thus could be works nos.6651/2&9. The fourth 6660 had the same nameplate but with a 'chessboard' patterned grille. I would then presume that works nos. 6646/7 which were delivered in 1967 had the same 'diagonal' nameplate, 'plain' grille and in the same the green livery. As to works no. 7495's livery on delivery in 1977 could have be green or even yellow and with the nameplate being of a later 'straight' shape by that year. Any idea of period when RNAD changed the colour from green to yellow, please? Colin.

Now on to brake vans. I like the style of 552 at Dean Hill which was sold to L&BR. Bachmann's SB version was initially too open to suit it!!! I found Banwy Models did a RNAD version but without the side windows. I went to the Shapeways shop to see the price. Dependant on material the body only print was advertised from £15.11 to £21.73. When I went to checkout on both the initial prices were shown at £18.13 and £26.07 with the final checkout costs to include extra plus shipping came to £36.98 and £46.97 respectively with still the running gear to purchase! On to Google Shopping to find Roxley Models still had 6 Bachmann 393-101 at £26.95 available with a fiver to pay for postage. The next lowest priced were some £29 plus postage or £33/£34 on Ebay with free delivery. So I hope soon to do a conversion for this topic. If "Earl822" would like to make contact then a UK 3D printer with UK postage rates could be suggested if a revised brake van with side windows be made available at a sensible UK price.

I have concentrated on the RNAD 60hp Hunslet diesels used on the narrow gauge to see if there are any other modifications that could be added in 3D loco body printing. From all the Hunslet listings on the web I have confirmed 7 of this type. I am ignoring any changes made in preservation so only true RNAD operation of them is sought. There are differences in livery, bonnet nameplate styles, radiator grilles and air cylinders. Were the cylinders containing air for loco braking or additional air for emergency purposes such as oxygen in event of a fire? I have set my findings out in tabular form which is attached and I would be grateful for confirmation, correction, filling the gaps and any other additional info especially if there were more than 7 in RNAD operation. I welcome photo evidence and dates where that is forthcoming. RNAD Hunslet 60hp diesel locomotives.xlsx

Well, it is all happening!!! The new range of munitions shown in my photos are now available at CWrailways website. Under Product Names, click on to Bombs and Munitions for a new revised page. Then under Product No's go to Diesel & Electric Locos page. Under the photos of gthe Hunslet diesel it states "current version has half open cab door" and "now available with or without air cylinders". In fact the cab door is fully open and the Hunslet bonnet nameplate is of the straight version. If you need to have the diagonal version then please ask to see if available. Please note that CW stands for "Chris Ward" NOT myself as my only interest in these developments is in purchasing!

Thanks very much indeed. With the five Dean Hill Hunslets being ordered from 1963 to 1977 there seems to be a definite change in the shape of the maker's bonnet nameplate. The diagonal from the start finishing with the straight at finish. There appears to be no change in shape when repainted to green although the last built may have always been yellow. In Hitchen's book works no. 6659 with cylinders on page 52 is stated to be numbered 13350 in 1995. On page 53 the number is stated as P6495 in 2003. Then on page 51, number P6495 was works no. 6651 in 1995!!! Despite all this there is now photographic evidence that both styles of bonnet nameplate was carried in both livery colours. The next defining point of numbers comes with the design of the radiators - see page 54 with 13351 taken in 1987 and 1995 compared to 13350. If loco numbers/works nos. and dates of these photos is known, please let me know,

More on modelling RNAD railways can now be found in the "Narrow Gauge Modelling" forum under topic "RNAD railways - locos, rolling stock, loads and buildings in 009".

14mm track gauges for modelling 3'6" lines in 4mm scale
coline33 replied to outcastjack's topic in Layout & Track Design
My redundant track panels have now found a home so have avoided the skip!!! -
Just to let everyone on this topic know that I have opened "RNAD railways - locos, rolling stock, loads and buildings in 009" as a topic in the Narrow Gauge Modelling forum.
-
I have started this topic to be purely on 009 modelling of the RNAD rail facilities but not of items subsequently preserved. Bachmann's RTR entry into this field has created a greater awakening to RNAD among modellers. On searching for the subject on RMweb I found snippets of information across forums so thought that this topic will act as an index in one place to what there is and what is coming when it comes to locos, vans, wagons, loads, buildings, etc. Photos of layouts and how shunting operations are managed are most welcome. I will 'kick-off' with three of the latest photos of my activities. The basic West Dean table-top layout as it starts its development upwards!!! A side and top views of my 'flat' wagons, with loads that will soon be advertised, plus in front other loads currently available. The products of Bachmann and CWrailways are on their respective websites and knowledge of other appropriate 009 products is welcome, Please do not worry about transferring knowledge from other topics as it will be nice to have 009 RNAD under asingle head.

Would it bring in more interest in RNAD narrow gauge modelling in 4mm scale if this forum was renamed "RNAD railway modelling in 009" and is there a more appropriate forum activity for it? I have just delivered my verdict on a second Hunslet body that differs from that is already available. "Wagons" as a title is not really appropriate for introducing this new body when it is ready for sale.

14mm track gauges for modelling 3'6" lines in 4mm scale
coline33 replied to outcastjack's topic in Layout & Track Design
I am downsizing my modelling interests. In 4mm scale, only my London trams will remain so I have available for disposal all the 14mm gauge 'Recreation21' track panels without any code 100 rails. If anyone is interested in having them before they go to the skip, please send me a message.
