  1. As a child i spent many hours round Neyland yard, my best mates uncle was a driver there. I can confirm that Castles definately appeared. The winter timetable tended towards 3 coach trains which increased to 5 coaches in the summer. I can remember Counties as the sheds premium loco's but Manors, Granges, Halls & modified Halls were all regular visitors as were 28's & 38's & in the final years 9F's were a regular sight. Neyland was the main shed for the region & serviced all loco's on Milford Haven turns & the oil train engines. The yard also cleaned the fish wagons on the Milford fish turns & serviced all the coaches on both the Milford & Neyland turns. I am about to start building a model of Neyland 7 it can be done in 18 ft from the 1st turnout from the single line to the buffer stops at the end of the platforms with not too much compression. The lines to Milford & Neyland were considered main lines, it is only enthusiasts who for some reason often refer to them as branch lines !!

I decided to re enter the hobby just over two years ago and shortly after i attended my first Warley show (2012) and was astonished by the standards of modelling on show. It became very apparent to me that if i was to build a decent layout i was going to have to plan things very carefully and acquire some new skills. I spent the next 12 months searching out a suitable prototype and thinking through the operational logistics of the finished layout. One thing i noticed, in fact it screamed out loud was how much more realistic hand built trackwork in code 75 bullhead rail looked when compared with the more usual code 100 commercial offerings. Last year a chat with master trackbuilder Norman Soloman convinced me that this was the way to go. I bought some C & L components and started building my own turnouts, i have now built 32 and am about to start on my first slips.Shortly after commencing i discovered 00SF and now build my turnouts using 00SF tolerances through th common crossing area and the resulting turnouts look much more realistic. I have now finished my trackplans and have planned the baseboards, avoiding joins under turnouts and plan to commence construction in the next month. I will be attending Warley again this year where i am sure i will be able to get some more invaluable advice. I would recomend to any of you to attend Warley as it is not only truly inspirational but highly educational.
  3. I am contemplating using the power base system but have a couple of questions. Does any body know how the magnets on the locos interact with the under track magnets used for the kadee uncoupling system? Secondly would the magnets fitted to the locos work with just steel rail, i.e no base plates fitted. I am just past the planning stage and the baseboards are under construction so i have to make these decisions soon. As regards the Kadee uncoupling system i could use the electro magnets but this decision must be made before track laying commences.
