  1. This makes the current 20 year old 8F offering with a 30 year old smokebox door, at approximately £40 higher price, seem even more ridiculous.
  2. I got one of those last month, but it lasted for 2 months. Previously I had the 80% off every 2 weeks, which I prefer as I relist everything that doesn't sell in the month. I hope they go back to them after my 2 months is up.
  3. This is a link to a Heljan turntable that had gone faulty, as they usually do. I fitted a decoder so that I could control it like a loco, and reworked the ring contacts/wiring so it didn't reverse polarity and cut out the sound half way round. A dual frog polarity reverser sorted that out. Please excuse the poor quality video, I'm no David Lean and It is a cheap crappy camera; and if the steam sound hiss is too overbearing just mute the sound (it starts muted, you have to switch the sound on). There is a bit in the video where I show how slow you can turn it for lining up the tracks, which you can do on 12v DC with a transformer as I said in my previous post if you aren't going digital.
  4. Do we know when 17928 lost its lining or was scrapped, I was having the plain black one for late 30's, could I justify this instead?
  5. When you wire the motor, don't just use an on/off switch, use an old cheap controller or put a change-over switch between the layout and turntable motor using your existing controller: that way you can make it go as fast or as slow as you want, and you can change direction.
  6. Have you got the app set to bluetooth or dcc?
  7. Further to the above I had email conversations with one of the Hornby people, and he was very helpful regarding my HM7000 query, if fact he went well above and beyond what I was expecting from him. On the smokebox door query this is what he sent on 23/02.24:- "Regarding the smoke box door, please allow me to ask the Development Manager. I’m guessing your query is regarding if this is new tooling of the 8F smoke box door?" And this is what I received from him an hour ago:- "The Hornby Development Manager has mentioned that ‘unfortunately this was the only tooling available for the smokebox door at the time of asking’. Sorry XXXX, I apologise but I personally cannot comment any further on this." Make of the above what you will.
  8. I'll admit that to know me is to love me, but instead of 100 listings at 80% off every 2 weeks I've only got 100 listings at 100% once over 8 weeks. As I usually have 80-90 listings I re-do them every 4 weeks before the old listings end, which I can't now do. The Lord giveth with one hand.......
  9. Last week my fortnightly 80% off was replaced with 100% off, but it lasts for 2 months. Bit of a nuisance as I relist everything every 4 weeks, so I will only get the chance to do this once, then I will have to end my listings and hope the 80%'s start again.
  10. I've been to Rails this afternoon as they're having a Hornby event with a couple of Hornby people there, and I wanted to pick someone's brains about a small niggle with a HM7000 decoder. Both Hornby people are now aware (they weren't) about the smokebox door and will be conversing with the relevant department when they return. As luck would have it, Rails have both new examples in a cabinet (both have old moulded door), and in another second hand cabinet they have a previous modern release 8F with and older example 8F side by side, so both could be compared. Both chappies were at a loss to know why the old door has migrated on to the new model. I also pointed out Hornby's promotional stuff show it should have the newer door.
  11. It's not just the dart that's moulded, the lamp iron is as well.
  12. i've had this twice in the last few days on my chromebook.
  13. I went on a mystery coach trip once, and we had a sweepstake to guess where we were going. The driver won £53.
  14. Have a look at the Turbomotive. It comes with a lamp iron in place on the smokebox door which is removeable to plug a supplied lamp in. Presume the Black 5 will be the same.
  15. Just ordered an LMS red one from Hattons Black Friday sale, £144 + £3.75 postage. Next job is get a decoder reblown, any votes for the best sound?
  16. Roco do one that works out at 60', but it's expensive. Heljan used to do one but they're hard to find second hand and can be unreliable but can be reworked when the controller breaks; you then have to stop it by eye as you will have lost the auto-stopping bit.
  17. Current cheapest prices on eBay for the LMS version are £220 DCC ready, £265 sound fitted.
  18. Hello. I use RMWeb on a laptop and a PC. If I've been on the laptop and then use the PC I find I am logged out on the PC, and trying to log in means my password isn't recognised and I have to reset it, which I do using my original password and my PC then works. I am then logged out on the laptop, and have to go through the same process on there, again using my original password, and the cycle then continues. It's been doing this for ages, any ideas why? Regards.
  19. If its one of the earlier Hornby ones with a Loksound 3.5 it has a small rectangular speaker behind the radiator grille, they never sounded very good because the back of the speaker wasn't enclosed. Does yours still work or do you just want to improve it?
  20. 100 ohm for v3 & v3.5, 4-8 ohm for v4 & v5
