I know this is plumbing new depths of pedantry, but D4100 was a class 09.

You don't have a lot of colour schemes to choose from with D6301. It was delivered in all over green, and had small yellow panels added later. It never made it to full yellow ends, or to blue. It was also the first one to be withdrawn and the only one not to have headcode boxes fitted.

I asked for a couple of reasons, firstly "The Book of the Warships" mentions 870 being sent to Derby for experiments with gas turbines, (and I'd love to know more about that) but was returned as unsuitable because of collision damage, so I wondered if 832 was the replacement. Secondly I read on another forum that 832 had a minor overhaul, including a bogie change I think, at Laira before being sent to Derby, so I thought that might indicate it was to be used as motive power. Anyway, apparently not, so at least I know why I haven't seen any pictures of 832 on RTC trains. Thanks again Mike

Does anyone know whether D832 worked any trains for the RTC before it became a dead load vehicle? If it did, are there any pictures?

The latest issue of Modern Locomotives Illustrated covers these locos, and includes a photo of a GFYE example which is said to be D5709, (the number can't be seen in the picture). I've seen pictures of D5707 and D5708 in this livery, and thought these were the only two to carry it. Can anyone confirm if D5709 did too? Thanks Mike

Very much looking forward to the two seventies books. The cover picture of the class 76 at Guide Bridge brings back a lot of memories already. I stood where the photographer was so many times!

The SLW blog with the livery options shows the BSYP example carrying the double arrow symbol, and gives D5021 and D5026 as the possible examples. Not sure about D5026, but D5021 had the BR lion rather than the arrows when BSYP, and even when it received full yellow ends, then became 24021, carried this all the way to the scrapyard.

I believe that's D7020 Neil, not D7025. There are several pictures of it on the Swindon scrap line, with D6323 next in line. Regards Mike

Hello Neil, There are three shots on the railphotoprints website which imply D7010 was withdrawn in BSYP and never made it to BFYE. (Search 7010 and ignore the pictures of Avondale Castle). Unfortunately the number isn't visible in any of them. Regards Mike
