Surely if it will go down, it can come up as the up side is a shallower radius than the down helix.

When I bought mine in 1983 when it was first released, the kit including wheels was 70 plus I think around 30 for the single Portescap I put in it. So 100 all up. I wonder which is better value for the time?
Andrew
Calculators think it is about 340 pounds today so 160 pounds better as a deal. Both beat a golf club membership so I would accept either.

That’s because laser cutting normal plasticard gives of chlorine gas or something similar. So I have been told.
it looks great, Tony.

I'm already a member- I didn't realise the back catalogue had been digitised! Thanks for the heads-up.
Good man. As a committee member I approve.

I'm also buying up as many back issues of 'Forward' as I can lay my hands on to see if somebody gave a definitive answer to the question back in 1983 or whenever).
Or join the gcrs and get access to every forward for free as electronic soft copies on the website.

I don't suppose there's too many "Accurascale-only" modellers
There are definitely on the continent. Germany especially. Marklin only or other brand loyalty. Can cause as much agro as oo vs em debate.

Got some weight now, what do people reckon is a good weight for a 4w wagon?
Is it a male or female wagon? They should be about the same weight but the male one will always say it is more than it is until 30 and then will underestimate it. If female, only whisper what the weight should be.

Just out of interest Richard, I assume the D7 is a kit? - Who makes it? (I'd love a model of 567 for my layout, considering I'm a member of that project).
It is from the casting master, Mr King.

Hi Richard, I'm just catching up on this interesting thread. Your build prompts me to ask:
I have an unbuilt DJH J10 but ideally would prefer to build a small tender version. I saw that rue d'etropal does an apparently suitable printed body, but then a warning elsewhere that that range tends to be dimensionally challenged. I wondered whether you happened to know whether this problem affects that particular product? ( I note the discussion earlier about non-standard standard GCR tenders!) Or is there a better way of achieving my aim?
Looking forward to seeing which loco you build first.
I am afraid I have not ordered one of the tenders from him. I have several other models. Whilst they need a bit of work to get them to look presentable, he does work from drawings (says he does) so I would hope it is near right. Depends on the drawing used. There may be other ways to get there that are not shapeways high price necessary.

Northern Germany. The RAF did less aerial town planning in the south so more stations look 19th century than in the north.

Then deduct 1.0mm for the thickness of the two top hat bearing flanges, another .5mm for clearance and twice the thickness of the frames material to get the distance between the insides of the frames. That's the width of the spacers you need.
Thank you to both you and Bill.
one question is your 0.5 mm clearance 0.25 for each side or 0.5 for both sides?
I thought someone might give me a number but both your calculations allow the maths to be done accurately.many thanks

Quiz question of the assembled masses. In a chassis for a 4-4-0, what do people have as the distance between the outside edges of bearings from one side to the other, so that the wheels have enough, but not too much lateral movement in oo?
I know back to back of the wheels are 14.5 but the bearing faces would have to be narrower than that, but what?
Historically, I have found comet pre-made spacers leave the bearings tight against the back of the wheels.
many thanks for advice.
If people do not want to clog the thread/ feel it won’t be of interest to others perhaps a private message.richard

Or if running with one set just make sure it is being pulled from the end with a hook. If it has to return what are the odds there is a triangle the whole train could be turned on.
I am not saying it happened, I am just suggesting how it could.

The tall blonde lady looks very much like a girl I once asked out. Maybe she is related?
did she say yes? By the way it is phrased I am guessing her answer was no.

Someone brought this scratch-built GC example along.
That someone is me. Though it is not scratchbuilt, it is a kit which needed beading added and my less than perfect fitting of them is what makes it look scratchbuilt. I think it is a d&s kit. Happy to be corrected on that though.
reading it through it sounds like I am saying that scratchbuilding is poor. Rather that my scratchbuilding does not look as good as something I have built from a kit.richard

Whilst class 25 did run on the GCR this one will not run on mine. It is an n gauge which I have repainted from green and added transfers as a side piece to remind me of the little n gauge my grandfather had which only had one loco, a blue class 25. It is the second n gauge loco I have done transfers on. I swore I would never do it again after the first one. Whilst this one did not break me, it certainly strained my eyes. Hats off to anyone who truly models in n gauge or 2mm.
the picture shows it about 2 to 3 times it’s real size.
with thanks to spider for advice on numbers.
back to the d7 and Atlantics now as I picked up coupling rods at the York show.

I've got the Sacré 4-4-0 back from Warren Haywood now.
DCC chip fitted, some weight in the boiler and a bar at the back of the tender for tension lock couplers, just got to put some coal in the tender and it's ready to go to the customer. The elaborate GC livery looks very good on ths pretty little loco.
Too much to hope this is available in 4mm as a kit?

The d7 tender breaks cover.
it needs a rear lamp iron on the top, but otherwise done.
now to turn attention to making the driving wheels chassis. I need to get one of these three locos across the line. The D7 seems simpler than the Atlantic and the McGowan Atlantic/ to be converted to B1 (maybe).

Such small steps recently.
Had to make a chassis. Which some leave like that. Not admitting the planning of shape, placement of frame spacers and motor gearbox combo. Brakes etc.
it looks like this.
and plonked together.
much still to do, even though it looks nearly there.
How do people ensure it goes in the right direction when power is applied with insulated wheels, wiring to motor etc.?
thanks for looking
