Looking forward to 87012 in executive livery as long as they don't do what they did to the 73 & 86 and paint the top half black!
I assume it should be dark chocolate brown but in the artwork for the twin pack it does look suspiciously similar to the grey on 87006.
Plenty of time to research the correct colours so I will give Dapol the benefit of doubt and place my preorder.

The new 08761 in 'Provincial' livery shows 'BR Scotrail' on the box label.
I'm pretty sure it should be Provincial.
There's a good video here at 40 seconds in with it on Tullis Russell wagons.

After much agonising over the cost, went for the pair of new red stripe ones.
I now have 4 and can replicate that scene at Saltley where you could see 4 in a row through the wire fence.
The livery is exactly the same as the previous batch (58012 & 58023) except that the Railfreight logo on 58003 has been printed in red and silver like a nameplate rather than red and white as in the first batch - Fox Transfers on order!
As in the first batch, you have to finish off the livery yourself! At the time of first release there was an article in MR by Ben Ando showing you how to do this.
Here's my photos of so treated 58023 with the new ones 58003 & 58020.
Back of the cab should be black not grey.
Handrails white not silver, inc. ones on the solebar.
Channel to be black right over the roof to bottom of cab to give that characteristic yellow pointy bit.

A bit odd that the NR yellow and RSS 08s have ladders.
Suppose being low numbers 417 441 they have the wooden doors and use a different tooling to the RES livery model.
Been wanting a RES and Red Star version for years so very pleased.

58001,2 3 were built with slightly different details to the others so surprised they chose 58002 and 58003. It's all in the rear bottom corners of the cabs.
I already have 58012 and 58023 which both have white cantrail stripes and I've made the as built 'd' handrails.
I would have preferred one of the higher numbers in red stripe with orange cantrails and pods on the cab roofs with full shield handrails to stop drivers walking from one cab to the other using the footplate. I think it was 58036 onwards which had these details.
Dapol supplied the full height shielded handrails with the Red stripe versions which is not wrong as most were retro fitted whilst still in red stripe livery.

Had a quick look in the Platform 5 books to see 40012's last days history...

Thanks for that.
Looking through a couple of books, It was 40012 which came down to Southampton with a freight liner on 12th April 1984.
I remember that day, just stepping off the school bus around 4pm at Winchester and seeing the class 40 heading back north with another liner. I had to wait nearly a month for the next copy of Rail Enthusiast and look in the yellow pages which listed the recent rare workings to find out what number it was.
Luckily CJ Marsden's wife got the pic at Northam level crossing. The pic on this day shows the painted nameplate, front end number and all discs removed from the number 2 end.
Picked up my model today. Put a little drop of Peco lube on the motor bearings and she runs sweet.

(although you could have five NGS kits for the price of a single EFE one!)
Yes, we baulked at £40 for the Mk2 Coach, some retailers on ebay are selling the Shark for the same amount.
£40 for a 2 axle wagon...we're in new territory!

Ben Ando wrote an article for ModalRail when the original batch came out.
His method was quite simple IIRC.
It involves placing a piece of platicard in the bottom of the fuel tank and reducing the height of the four corner pins on top of the chassis.

I’m going to order mine on Monday. I’ve somehow managed to sweet talk my other half into paying for a chunk of it for Christmas, although I’m not going to be able to open it until the 25th...Out of curiosity - what’s the sound quality like with such a small speaker?
I think the sound is good but I'm not an expert on dcc sound. The volume is a little low IMHO but you can change this on dcc, I cant on DC.
The loco itself runs smooth but makes a little too much noise for my liking, with sound you really need a silent mechanism.
All in all I'm really pleased and it adds a lot of play value being able to approach a signal, come to a halt and wind it up again.
It's a great innovation but does come at a cost.

I've received my sound fitted 31 in Railfreight from Cornwall today. Came as a surprise to get an email on Friday saying it had been despatched. From experience of what happened with the SF 40, I pre ordered mine right after the winter announcement thinking that they would sell fast.
I only run DC but it sounds great with cold start, idle, air breaks off, then 2 engine pitches as speed increases.
The cost is a bit higher than the 40, the cost of the 31 being £100 more than the standard model whereas the 40 looked good at just £60 over and above.
Very pleased, looks great with a mixed rake of speedlink wagons.

Do we now have two N gauge Shark brakevans with the KR Models one?
On 03/11/2020 at 12:07, Paddy said:I doubt it as one exists and the other does not...
In NGauge Journal 6/20 received today, there is an advert by KR Models showing that their Shark is in the final stages of CAD design...(page 81)
Model Rail also landed on my door mat in the same post today. Page 8 shows the EFE shark.
Both the KR Models and EFE Shark appear to have the same origin i.e. Ex. DJM.
I do recall at the Fareham Show Sept 2019 Dave Jones had what looked like a first EP sample.
Perhaps KRM bought the CAD and EFE bought the tooling?

That's right Alan--it wasn't applied till later (March 80 I think without checking). I was at the unveiling ceremony at FP. I recall a guy who was driving an 08 urging Allan Baker to hurry up as he had to pull Tulyar out of the depot for its next working. I was also on the railtour that went via Eastleigh . There are some good pictures in the new Strathwood book (no connection with them) 'The Last Years of the Deltics 1977-1982.'
I had previously thought that several elements were missing from this model compared with the OO model featured as the catalogue image, namely, Rainhill Plaque, white rim wheels, silver handrails to cab doors, red buffer stocks.
However, on the website in my previous post, I can see that the model dates between 12th July 1979 (White frames added at FP) and 17th March 1981 (Rainhill plaque added at FP).
This obviously represents a wider operating timeframe than that of the OO model, even though my personal memories of 55015 are seeing my first Deltic on 17 Oct 1981 and subsequently seeing it on many occasions as a ubiquitous open day exhibit from 1985 - early 90s.
One other point to note is that on the Farish 47/7 and first run of 55s, the ETH socket was pre painted orange and already fixed to the model. Last months run of 47/4s and this batch of 55s now has a hole in the front end for the socket to be painted and applied by the user.
I purchased mine today in Eastleigh where I first saw it 39 years ago this month. Great model.
Creppello, Maybe you could answer a question that's been on my mind for 39 years? At Eastleigh, was the train dragged backwards around the depot loop or dragged into the works? I have this vague memory of a domino headcode 47 being attached to the rear. The depot loop would seem more sensible in order to turn it for the run to Portsmouth.

55015 Tulyar arrived from Sheffield today. Farish have done a grand job replicating the FP livery when first applied. Confirmed that the 2 TOPS data panels on each side is correct and also the black buffer shanks.
No 'Rainhill Trials' plaque on the nose I see.
My dad took me to see this at Eastleigh 39 years ago when I was age 12...http://www.napier-chronicles.co.uk/15_17-10-81.htm#2776
Hope to pick mine up at the weekend.

Hi Alan,
Any mention of the Farish HKA in there? Think they are due next month but strange we haven't seen any samples.
Yes
HKAs 'on the way' apparently. No pics.
As are the Thompson coaches.

Got my 33020 today.
A few differences from previous release of 33030.
33020 is much quieter than 33030.
OLE flashes now provided on front end. Also on one side by engine room door but not the other side.
There is no on/off switch anymore on the underside of the battery box.
The tail lights show red just above the buffers but the roller blind does not show red. On 33030 the buffer tail lights do not light at all. The roller blind just flickers white - no change which ever way the on/off switch is set!
The buffer beam of 33020 appears to have the holes for fitting the 33/1 buffer plate as does 33030. I've never been able to fit the plate on the 33/1. maybe a bit of chassis swapping will do the trick. Need to investigate more.
