  1. They do run very nicely. In fact, Tony, you gave me a couple for my SJ set. Even though they are made up and painted, I'm going to use them as a master to make a mould, then I can improve them, as I too was unaware of their being inaccurate. A few little improvements as per Mike’s diagram, and I’ll be able to produce accurate 10’ bogie sides.
  2. The best way for me to ensure that it happens is for me to make 10’ bogie sides. Then it is guaranteed that a week later they will be available commercially!
  3. Hi Andy, thanks for getting back to me. I was thinking if I could just get hold of 1 (any) LNER 10' bogie, I could make resin castings. Do you have a spare you could send me in return for some resin castings?! I could try Danny but I know he's had a few issues to deal with outside the hobby, and I'm reluctant to trouble him with something so trivial. They're certainly more accurate than the 8'6" ones I've currently got... I'm not sure if you could 3d Print me a couple could you Mike? Just a thought, as I'll be needing a few 10' bogie frames, and I could then produce additional castings from the masters. I've got the Flying Scotsman Triplet to make up, hence my desire for the 10' patterns....
  4. Hello all, I was just wondering, is there anywhere to get LNER 10' cosmetic bogie castings? I thought MJT did some, but they only have the 10' Pullman version. Any help greatly appreciated.
  5. A few more from me that are complete both of which have appeared here before. A Silver Jubilee rake and a D&S Pigeon Van:
  6. Hi Jesse, I did similar to you to make my own 10000. My only difference was I made the chassis from SEF as well as the tender. I've added an awful lot of lead, as there is plenty of room in the streamlined casing, so it is by far my heaviest loco, but with a great big Mashima round can motor, it goes like the clappers and could easily pull 15 kit-built coaches, probably much more. We'll have to test its haulage capacity when some form of normal life returns. I'm incredibly attached to my W1, and there is absolutely no chance I'll be replacing it with a Hornby one. I'm sure the Hornby model will be fantastic, but mines got character, as will yours, Jesse. Just imagine if all A4's were built like this: a huge brooding hulk of an engine!
  7. You’re not referring to the letter in the MRJ are you Tim?! I have yet to see CF but the sheer scale of it alone makes it a winner in my book, let alone all the other superlatives I could throw at it! What ballast might you recommend for N? I’m just curious as I’m struggling to choose one solely by looking online....
  8. I see where I'm going wrong now.... I should wear a suit and tie whilst making my models!
  9. Oh so they do! Quite a few interesting bits there as well looks like they’ll make up etches as well. Thanks very much Mick.
  10. Well Chas, we just need some kind soul to create the etches for the sides and ends.... then offer West Riding Ltd, Coronation and spare, and most likely 3D printed ends for the beaver tail! id be in for a set or two...
  11. Thank you Mark. The foil was this stuff: https://hobby.uk.com/bare-metal-foil-chrome.html however in the end, I decided not to use it, and just used chrome paint instead.
  12. Hello, I'm just updating some of the pictures that were lost when photobucket went weird. Here is my coronation build from earlier in pictures. I think the build thread is still there somewhere. I'd do things a lot differently now, but I ended up with a nice model none the less. The images are in rough build order.
  13. Thank you very much for posting that video of LB. Although of course I love the steam trains, that Deltic looked like it was absolutely hammering it!! Brilliant!
  14. Morning all. I have to in fact confirm that the C12 is of white metal construction and comes from South Eastern Finecast. The chassis is nickel silver I believe. The only LRM kit I’ve made so far is the J69 which has Iain Rice heritage.
  15. Sorry to butt in, I know we have covered this before (most likely) What is the white residue you get on whitemetal after soldering? Is there a way to easily get rid of it prior to painting?
  16. Yeah I'd have queried that too, bit of a difference! Glad it got sorted. I'd just say don't be put off ordering direct from Mark. The wheels are top notch. Perhaps try like I did, and do a good old fashioned 'mail order' for your future orders. Worked a treat for me. Usual disclaimers apply
  17. I've lost an entire jig when I moved house...
  18. To be honest, I can't categorically state that’s exactly what I was charged. It was close enough to give me a good idea. As long as it wasn’t say 30% more I’m not too fussed, its not like there are many other options out there…
  19. Hiya, I just used the prices from the catalogue: http://www.markits.com/MARKITS_Price_Guide_2013_09.pdf
  20. I just posted the following in the Markits thread (well one of them anyway) "My experience with Mark has always been positive. When I lived abroad, I used to call him (he'd be difficult to get hold of because he's working usually). Whenever I did chat to him, I found he had an exceptionally dry sense of humour which can come across as abrasive. That said I've often enjoyed some very cynical banter with him, and he's always posted what I wanted to the other side of the world. My most recent order (in the last couple of months) was simply a completed PDF order form he has on his website. I filled it out, printed it off with all the prices (no need for a quote therefore), figuring he could easily pick the items and check them off as he went. 3 or so weeks later everything arrived, all present and correct." I found it difficult when I started out in the hobby, because some of the characters (like Mark), are just that, characters. But I have come to understand them, and realise that as a cottage industry type of business (I’m not being demeaning to any of the smaller suppliers here) they’re often run just as much as a hobby as oppose to an all-out business concern as we might associate with today. We are spoilt with next day delivery and instant gratification. Many of the small businesses in our hobby are a throw back in many senses – I’ve learned to accept this and in fact enjoy it. That said I’m in no way an apologist for poor service. I had some very poor service from another wheel supplier and I haven’t ordered from them since. That’s my personal choice. I have also written on this subject before, and I have in some respects changed my mind and softened some of my opinions. I do feel (and again this is a personal opinion) that good websites where you could simply add items into a basket (like the Wizard models one) really help the cause. And I am convinced they increase trade and make life easier for the proprietor. The caveat of course is that not all business owners in our hobby have the time or desire to be fully online. It’s always going to be a tricky one, but I would hate to see good businesses go under due to a poor reputation when in many cases, there is no alternative. However in the case of odering direct from Markits, I have yet to have any issue, just fantastic products, and good service.
  21. My experince with Mark has always been positive. When I lived abroad I used to call him (he'd be difficult to get hold of because he's working usually). That said I've often enjoyed some very cynical banter with him, and he's always posted what I wanted to the other side of the world. 22. Its not that twin motor one that can do about 40 coaches is it?!
  23. The key to eBay is knowing the market you're buying in. People make the mistake that everything there is a 'bargain'. It isn't. Plenty of sellers out there wanting your cash. As always shop around and do your research. I have to say I personally wouldn't buy an unmade kit without being able to see it first. A few years back I was able to purchase a few DJH kits (unmade) for very reasonable prices. Sadly it seems these are no longer available/for sale.
  24. I've added all the gubbins, wiggly pipes and so on to what will become V2 no. 4774. All I need to do is complete the tender then I can slap some paint on it. Awaiting a gearbox also, then the chassis can be completed. Some of the motion is in modular parts for future assembly.
