Thanks @Phil Bullock, I may renumber to a refurbed example to avoid replacing the trim. I also thought it was around later than that as the only photo's I've found of locos with the modified front end are post 85.

I've got the Hornby model of 31 111 "skinhead" class 31 and I'm looking for some info on that loco or a similar loco I could change it too without too much work, ideally a Stratford allocated example.
I notice it only has 2 marker lights on the front end, was this an 80's modification?
Could I renumber it to one of the ETH fitted loco's or would I need to carry out any modification? I can't find many photos of that loco, or indeed many in Rail Blue with the front end modified.
I'm guessing that as it is, it would be a loco in mid 80's condition.
Many thanks.
Steve.

James...... How do you get on with any shunting using the wire hoops?
And have you ever weathered an 08? some of them were pretty shabby as I remember!

Fantastic 47's James! I'll never tire of seeing your weathering, all very inspiring 👍

Lovely scenic work done on the fiddle yard Alan. You've got yourself a whole new micro layout there! 👍

A very nice wagon there! The interior looks superb, the colours are spot on for old weathered wood.
Great stuff 👍

I succumbed to buying a Hornby TXS Bluetooth sound chip at Ally Pally and got to say I'm really pleased with it. It's never going to be top of the range but for the price I think the sound is good and it was easy to install. I do like the Bluetooth aspect but prefer to operate it on my normal DCC system. A good introduction to the world of sound and it has def got me hooked, even if I don't get the full engine sounds on my small layout!

Just found your thread and had a read through. That's a fantastic tribute, I'm sure your pal would be proud of what you're doing! It is coming along very nicely, the Turbots look superb, and that's a fantastically simple but enjoyable track plan you've used. I'll look forward to seeing some more updates and although I model in OO gauge, the appeal of O is very strong! The bulk of the locos makes it all seem so real, especially when weathered.
Keep up the good work 👍

Nice project. Silvertown is a railway favourite area of mine, the years just before it closed were fascinating with mainline locos hauling short trains you've made a good start, I'll look forward to seeing more.

Thanks for that. The article is interesting too, I'll have a read through.

Transfers done, I'll let everything dry, maybe a pin wash then let it all dry again and a coat of matt varnish before weathering.

Both are prepped and ready for transfers now, I've just painted Kleer on the area's where the transfers would go, got some transfers from Railtech and they recommend using decalfix so that's my plan.

Hello,
you might want to take a look at gaugemaster.com at their Heljan spare parts and search for HN-OO-CL86.0-93 which is a class 86 head code / marker lights. If they are in stock it might take a little bit of trimming to fit but just measured it up on my class 85 and it seems to be a good fit and just what you are looking for.

I came across this post while searching for Class 47 marker lights and wondered if they might be suitable. Incant seem to find them in the GM catalogue though, have you a link I could follow at all?
Many thanks.
Steve.

Are you using a Heljan tubby duff as a start point?
No, it's an old lima model bought second hand and has had some work done to it. I could always back date it a little to before it had the marker lights. It's still needing detailing and painting so could become any Stratford loco of around the mid 80's. I like your 47 with the 'silver' roof, I was looking at modelling a loco like that.

Ok, thanks. I'm hoping to model 47085 Mammoth in the 80's but need to find a marker light.
-
Good decision to keep those 47's, can I ask about 47 010, where did you get the marker light on the front from or was it on there originally?

Those pics just ooze atmosphere, especially 31 418, the hut, ground cover and lack of boundry fences! Great photo.

Finished one Limpet and started the yellow stripe on the other one. I'll have to carefully try and smooth the line between the colours, I didn't realise it would turn out so pronounced, I'll have to be try and be more careful with the next one!

I remember stinking out DEMU Showcase at Burton in 2006 doing a Limpet plastic bulging demo with a soldering iron, those were the days 😂
I’ve got a Dremel gas powered soldering iron these days and you can get effective results gently applying some heat and teasing out the bottom with various implements, but at the same time there’s a risk if you go too much it’s game over..!
Limpets looking lovely so far Steve, great weathering.
The leaf suspension can be gently chiselled off and replaced with the Bruninghaus spring mouldings or bodged with a scalpel if you’re feeling adventurous!
Thank you James, I remember that showcase and demo, it sowed the seeds for my future wagon weathering!

Didn't these tend to bulge at the base? Looks good so far.
I think they did but I've not seen too many photo's of it. Not sure I could replicate it easily though.

I found a couple of photo's of it, looks an interesting loco to model. What was the story with the drivers window at the front?
