  1. I think they did but I've not seen too many photo's of it. Not sure I could replicate it easily though.
  2. Another couple of washes over the sides of the Limpet, one or two more coats and I'll put the yellow stripe on, and the Yellow stripe painted on another Limpet, I'm getting there!
  3. Nice photo's Steve, those wagons look great, there's a lot of older stock that will pass muster with a bit of detailing and weathering. I upgraded a few Hornby coal hoppers a while back.
  4. Agree with that! Mine ran superb straight out of the box! I just need a suitable layout to run it on!
  5. Glad Top Yard is growing on you, it's a nice little plan, been thinking about how it could be operated, should you extend fiddle yard! I had too much time on my hands Sunday!
  6. Gave the wagon another coat of a brown wash, it's getting there but gonna take a while. I'm aiming for this sort of discolouration.
  7. A bit more work done on my wagons. The Limpet on the right has been painted with Citadel Dawnstone and needs one more coat. The other one has had a couple of brown washes, I'm looking to put a filthy patina that nearly obliterates the original livery but using washes alone will take ages! Might have to try something else. The Brill has had transfers applied, the original yellow box was repainted as I only had white BRILL transfers, coat of Matt varnish next.
  8. For The Love Of Money - The O'jays
  9. I haven't got Apple TV so cant watch it, which is a shame 🙂 but to anyone watching Masters of the Air I'd recommend this. The sound quality is a bit poor but this guy is a true hero! I had goosebumps listening to this, such an unassuming bloke, yet what a story he has to tell!
  10. The 08 looks great, did you use a gloss varnish to put the decals on?
  11. I've completed the BRILL up to the stage of waiting for transfers, the LIMPETS have had a start made on weathering the insides and the outside of one.
  12. The signal looks mighty fine David, glad to see the layout coming along 🙂
  13. Good to hear you'll be at the Mid Essex show, hopefully I'll make that, look forward to seeing Daisy sidings 🙂
  14. I'm enjoying working on the BDA/BRILL, I've decide to keep one side as a BDA and the other side I will add BRILL transfers, the photo I have shows Railfreight Red livery, re numbered and with a yellow patch with BRILL in black on it. I've faded the red by applying a filter of Citadel Paints, Squigg Orange and gave the bed a coat of matt varnish. I'll work remove the paint over the numbers using a cocktail stick.
  15. Did a bit more weathering, drybrush some planks with Vallejo colours this time and a dark grey wash to bring out the planks, the photo I have showed some rust staining on some planks, so I copied that.
  16. Thanks for the link @Daddyman there's some good info on there. I believe the mesh appeared after my modelling era but not sure when exactly.
  17. I like them, weathering planks, the way they dry brush on has given a textured look. I think Vallejo are pretty good too. I still prefer enamels for washes though.
  18. Started work on the wagons. I gave the interiors of the Limpets a coat of Lifecolor Rust Dark Shadow and, after removing the bolsters and distressing the bed of the Brill with a scalpel and wire brush, painted it in Lifecolor Warm Dark Shade then dry brushed Warm Base color over the top. The Bolsters were given a wash of Rust then a Cold Base Color over the wooden part. I've noticed in the few photo's I've seen that the bed weathers to a dark brown and grey shade compared to the tops of the bolsters, which weather to a silver grey, I guess that's down to usage. The bolsters always seemed to keep the body colour, albeit weathered. The uprights have also been given a coat of rust. Still a lot of work to do.
  19. The Limpets are ready to be painted so I plan on doing the interiors first then, as I've a photo of a wagon that's still in original livery but heavily weathered and just had a yellow stripe over painted at the top I plan on doing that with one, the other will be painted Yellow and Grey as the RTR version in the back. I also have this Bachmann BDA that I plan of turning into a BRILL by weathering and fading the Railfreight Red and applying appropriate markings. I'll start by weathering the bed of that first. I have a question though, am I right in thinking the bed of the wagon is wooden along with the tops of the bolsters? I haven't been able to find any good photo's of the bed of those wagons.
  20. The stock for Sheepcroft looks fine Stu, I'll look forward to seeing it at Ally Pally. 🙂
  21. After a bit of drilling, cutting and filing this is the result. A bit of filling, cleaning up and finishing off using fine grade files and I'll have to decide how to paint them!
  22. I've put away the Dogfish for a bit and started work on the Limpets. I believe the prototype was converted from POA wagons so I thought I would do the same. I have a RTR Bachmann Limpet and a couple of Bachmann POA's, that were not really doing much. I'm not sure about the prototype but the Bachmann Limpet has wider support bars in the middle than the POA's but I'll overlook that! I started by removing the ladders on the ends and putting plastic strip in between the middle bars, next up file them down so they are level then cut out the openings.
  23. Thanks for those links @James Makin, all have been duly bookmarked! 🙂
