    Why is it that places like travel agents, bureaux de change and banks are more than happy to sell you Euros and other foreign currency, yet if you have a larger denomination Euro note and simply want to change it for some smaller notes, no one is remotely interested in helping you? It's disgraceful, it's not as if you're really asking for much.

      As commercial organisations they take the view that they neither want large denomination notes because, just like you, most people want small denominations and absent any remuneration, they see no reason or benefit in providing a free service. Its not very friendly but they are not charities.
