  1. There is another aspect you need to factor in and that is the overall length of the axle and the shape of the tip. You may need to provide enough width to the frame to accommodate a top hat bearing.

Jut as an aside, have you done a financial sense check on this? I stopped printing run of the mill bogie when I worked out that the cost of buying wheel set, bearings and coupling was greater than just buying the off the shelf complete bogie..

  2. If not resolved, ask Wickness models what format the attached file was in. Some ISP's will block e-mails with attachments that are in a  format that they deem suspicious. They may or may not tell you what they have done. If that is the case, you may need to contact your ISP and ask them to unblock that format - or ask Wickness to re-send in a different formt e.g. a zip file.

Ideally the printer would go in the loft. The lowest temp I measured up there this winter was about 1 degree, but how warm can the printer get before i would need to consider the other problem... It frequently measures over 40 degrees up there in the summer.

Maybe need to check the manual for your printer - Anycubic says -

  4. Too cold in the workshop to progress some printing projects so I have continued other tasks.

Got the chemical works lighting sorted - happy with that having played with resistors. As its quite fragile, I have arranged it to be removable for the baseboard and wired the lighting to to 2 micro magnets. On the baseboard the feeds are wire loops and when you put the plant down the magnets pick up the feeds and power it up.

Next turned to the level crossing behind the station. Happy with progress, some fine tuning to do and then a paint job. Frame and mechanism is fabricated brass, operated by a servo under the baseboard, barrier is plasticard.

  5. Too much going on over the past month to do much modelling but -  station and timber area developed, new 3d printed logging truck added and guests for the wedding added as Santa brought a population explosion!

The main station buildings do follow the Zone Industrial rather than Heidiland style -

  6. Yes it would, I can with the original Maker. Software is easy enough and for what you want has a basic shape of a rectangle with rounded corners or you can create the exact shape you want quite easily or import from other deign sources. You can down load and play about with it free from their site. To successfully cut that, you would need the knife blade accessory.

Does need a mid range or better laptop or MAC with 8Gb of RAM to run smoothly. Despite being promoted as a hobby tool, it remains a CAD program with integrated cutting machine controls.

  7. This bit of their words concerns me - "2.4GHz wireless capability and built-in Wi-Fi and USB connectivity"

They are saying 2.4GHz wireless capability as a separate feature to built in WiFi. Apart from WiFi - the only wireless capability that operates in that spectrum is Bluetooth.

My interpretation then is that this is based round Bluetooth technology for the controller and would also facilitate other mobile devices with the appropriate app.

My experience of Bluetooth is not great being subject to interference from many sources.

Can anyone who was there confirm if this was discussed in the presentation?

  8. I also went for the vivarium pad option, 3 X 14w self adhesive inside the printer cover and insulated it. They are all connected to a thermostat with the probe inside the cover that controls the temperature in the printer. My concern with the belts concept is that it will warm the resin but for the first layers a lot of that will be lost as you plunge the cold build plate into the resin. Having the plate warm at the end of the print also makes removal of the prints easier.

I seem to recall many years ago Simon put up a sample coach on Shapeways that he (at the time) deliberately enabled users to download and try at home. If he were to upload it here, that would give people the chance to evaluate the quality of his stls and try printing them.

He did. I downloaded and modified it to optimise for my printer and he got quite upset as he did not realise that the STL could be edited. Having tried it, I opted not to buy any of his range.

  10. 1913 all serviced and tested ready for the Darlington club show next weekend. Just need to pack it back into the crates and hope the van passes it's MOT on Tuesday!
