  1. On Sunday 3rd March 2024, the Quainton Railway Society signed an agreement for a new Clubhouse to be built at Quainton for the Risborough & District Model Railway Club. The proposed building will be built adjacent to the Museum at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre and will enhance the railway related attractions offered to visitors as well act as a permanent home for the Model Railway Club. The agreement was signed in the same carriage used by Winston Churchill to entertain President Eisenhower during the Second World War. Barry Payne, Chairman of Quainton Railway Society said. "We are looking forward to working in partnership with the Risborough & District Model Railway Club and excited with the new aspect that they bring to the site." Club Chairman, Paul Wright, said, "This is a significant moment in the Club’s 50 years’ history. It’s always been our ambition to have permanent Club premises, and this is the perfect site. We are also looking forward to working with our friends at Bucks Railway Centre on a range of collaborative activities." The Club will now progress the development by submitting a Planning Application to Buckinghamshire County Council.

  3. I would like to send out a personal thanks to all of our traders, societies, layout owners and Club members for putting on an enjoyable and successful exhibition.  Special thanks needs to go to the catering team (both Club members and their partners), who kept us supplied with light refreshments, beverages and our celebrated cakes throughout the day.  The exhibition was financially successful for the Risborough & District Model Railway Club, the proceeds of which will help us fund our new Clubhouse and will ensure that we are able put on exhibitions of this quality in the future.  Finally, a very special thanks to all of our visitors who attended on the day.  We hope you had a very enjoyable day.

I am thinking of attending RISEX on Saturday. First time to this show but looking into the travel time and costs by car or rail from Surrey, so can anyone please clarify the parking costs at the venue? The car park does not look very big in Google maps so are there restrictions in local roads?
Also could anyone provide the name of the Polish layout as it was unclear in the RDMRC’s video. Thanks for any help to encourage a new attendee!

The name of the Polish layout is Tamzynowo Wlk.  Further details can be found on our website: Risex 2024.  Parking is available in Mount Car Park, see website link: Mount Car Park

  5. There have been a number of comments on this post regarding the proposed venue for this year's Railex.  While the Bowl's Hall is not the Club's preferred first choice, in area, it is only slightly smaller than the Sports Hall.  The issues last year caused by the hot weather have been taken on board and we are working with the Stadium to ensure that there is adequate ventilation in the event of hot weather.  This is in addition to advising traders and layout owners regarding appropriate clothing and providing additional standalone electric fans to make the event more comfortable.

And to be absolutely clear - there are no alternative affordable venues available.  For next year we are hoping to be back in the Sports Hall if a cost-effective solution can be found to protecting the recently refurbished flooring.

Whilst we welcome comments on this thread to improve the show, we sincerely request that this is not tempered with unfounded scaremongering about what may or may not happen.  The confirmed layouts and traders for 2024 speak for themselves http://www.railex.org.uk.  And, whilst we already have plenty of trader and layout owner confirmations for 2025, we are also aware of the need for continued support for this event from traders, layout owners and attendees alike.  Without this support, Railex like Warley will no longer be a feature in the model railway calendar.

Successive RMWeb surveys show that Railex is considered one of the best independent model railway shows in the country. Unlike other large shows, we do not have big trade names to support our event, for which the operating margins are narrow, and the effort put in by Club members is considerable.

As far as this year is concerned, there will be a stellar line up of traders and quality layouts that you have come to expect from this event.  We look forward to seeing you there.

OK, thanks. That's a bit disappointing, to be honest. I appreciate that it's beyond your control and it's too late to do anything about it now for this year. But if the stadium is going to continue being unhelpful, then maybe the time has come to look at a new venue altogether for 2025.

We have looked locally to source alternative venues of comparable size and competitive cost, but to no avail thus far.  If anyone has any suggestions, we will gladly investigate.

what is been done about the Heat as last year it was way to hot as a trader we could not take a brake to recover i may have to think about atteding if notting is been done

We too share your concerns about potential heat issues.  We are working with the Stadium to ensure that ventilation system is operational in the event of hot weather.

  9. I would like to see Modelu fill the gap in the Town & Country section i.e. 1968 to 1998 (preferably pedestrians and shoppers).

Other suggestions for products: Location cabinets, various railway company platform benches, signal and signal box finials, platform trolleys (including BRUTEs), architectural cornices and corbels, letter boxes.

Is it going to be in the bowls hall again this year, or are you back in the main hall?

Yes, it is in the Bowls Hall again.  Unfortunately, we could not get the Main Hall, as the stadium were concerned about damaging the new floor.

    You are quite right.

The MTK bogie sides are quite soft and flexible rendering them unfit for purpose.  I have ordered MJT replacements with their associated etched brass bogie frames.

    Cheers

    Darius

I'd be interested to know what MJT bogie sides that you are planning to use, as I am struggling to find a suitable match.  I am also building a Class 306, albeit using laser cut bodies (see attached photo).  Good luck with your build.

    Regards,

    Gary.
