Perhaps I should make it clear the model comes with a double chimney (fitted) and a replacement chimney (in the accessories pack) that looks the same from the sides/front but from the top it is just a single chimney with an oval(ish) elongated hole instead of 2 circular holes. Easy to swap them over and the instructions for the steam/smoke generator show that you should use the single chimney when generating the steam.

It seems that this is the setup whether it's Hornby or TRS trains for locos with a double chimney. From looking at the excellent work of TRS trains on Facebook it looks like they also have to open out the chimney so that the divide is missing to allow the steam effect to work. Maybe someone can come up with a 3d printed double chimney that can somehow channel the steam through the chimney without the need to remove the divide.

Has the body removal 'issue' of the H66 been resolved?

This was one of the 2 major issues of the H66.

    • 1 was the rotating axle boxes issue - the video looks great, and Dapol had no problems with their 59.
    • The other was the high probability of 'collateral damage' any time the body needed to be removed - steps, etc.

    Thanks,

    Al.

From the announcement video by accurascale and Hornby magazine last year Steve talks about removing the body and even demonstrates it. As most of the detail from the hattons 66 that would ping of break or chip the paint has been moved to the chassis. From the video it looks nice and simple.

I was going to add this some time ago but I`m really impressed with the working front lamps on this loco - they really do add to it. Now I also bought 3 of the new P2s and the new tender coupling is to me a good step forward as well.

Now I just wish that the working lamps from 6202 were built into 2002, 2005 & 2007 along with the new tender coupling back the other way.

So maybe in the future new releases will have both 'features'?

2007 is due to have working lamps with the steam generator. Google r3983ss and you'll see the Hornby listing. It's sold out with Hornby though.

They're larger (compared to an 800) rheostatic grids to allow the rheostatic brakes to function when off the overhead wires. They are on any vehicles with an engine, in this case the 3 non driving vehicles. The non driving vehicle they hold on the video appears to have them.

It'll be interesting to see what they do for day and night lights, since IETs don't have this function. 3 markers and two headlights are lit on the mainline, the option is for full or dimmed on the headlights.

    Jo

Thats a interesting point about the lights then. Hopefully Hornby know about that.

  5. Decorated samples Of the TPE 802 can be seen on the new Hornby signal box video on YouTube from the 8 minute mark. It looks nice. Not sure if any of the other 800 releases that have come through have had the lighting updated but apparently the TPE 802 Has day and night mode new seating and space for a bigger speaker.

I’ll just restate my wish for a DCR all grey one (rather than the Cappagh blue one already announced). I think that it’s in prep already but just in case anybody wants to second it in the hope a retailer will decide to back it 🤞

DCR Rail aswell as the puma livery would be great. 👍

KMRC announce Exclusive Dapol 00 Gauge Class 59/0 59 002 ‘Alan J Day’ in Aggregate Industries with 30-year branding livery.

    4D-005-KM1_59002_Aggregate_Industries_final.jpg.ffc6d36784523e0fad783e3211926dde.jpg

The Class 59 Co-Co locomotives were built between 1985 and 1995 by Electro-Motive Diesel. A total of 15 locomotives were built for three different operators.

They were the first privately owned diesel locomotives to operate regularly on the British main line, also the first diesel locomotives built for it in the United States. The first Class 59/0s were ordered by Foster Yeoman and entered service in February 1986 working out their Merehead depot.

Class 59/0 59 002 was introduced in March 1986, working out the Merehead Foster Yeoman TMD originally operated by Foster Yeoman and between June 1986 and June 1996 it was named ‘Yeoman Enterprise’ when renamed after client ‘Alan J Day’. Since 2008 following the acquisition of Foster Yeoman becoming part Aggregate Industries 59 002 has carried their blue/green/silver livery, additionally it carries 30-year anniversary branding.

The Kernow Model Rail Centre Exclusive highly detailed model in 00 Gauge is being produced for KMRC by Dapol. The model features a heavy diecast chassis with all wheel pick up, NEM coupling pockets, printed nameplates with etched versions supplied, many separatly applied details parts. DC lighting with independent control of end lamps (push/pull/light engine) and cab lighting (controlled by switches) and with DCC fully controlled independent lighting: push/pull and light engine modes for head and tail lights, day/night headlamp selection and independent cab lighting (leading cab /trailing cab /off)

The Exclusive model is priced at £169.99 for DCC ready, £199.99 for DCC fitted and £299.99 for DCC exhaust smoke and sound fitted versions and all are available to pre-order with delivery expected Q1 2024.

    4D-005-KM1D Dapol Class 59/0 59 002 ‘Alan J Day’ DCC Fitted
4D-005-KM1S Dapol Class 59/0 59 002 ‘Alan J Day’ DCC Exhaust Smoke and Sound Fitted

Chris Trerise, Managing Director, said: “Our KMRC Exclusive range continues to grow and be popular, 59 002 in its Aggregate Industries livery complete with the unique 30-year branding complements our existing 00 Gauge KMRC Exclusives.”

A great announcement. I've been waiting for this livery to be announced by someone. Do you know if Dapol have fixed the lighting issues from the 1st batch as all the 59s had lighting thay was not correct for the classes and required modifications.

  10. Hopefully it's somthing new and not a duplication like a 40,47 or hst as there's just no need for it right now.

Im going to say its a class 313 or a start of the electrostar family with a southern 377. We know revolution have ruled out 00 gauge versions.

And accurascale was a sponsor for the last 313 Rail tour so that's what my money is on.

I just think it is good old Hornby just not getting round to making them, Someone on the Horny Forum keeps telling me that Hornby has to schedule builds when they have the money and a production slot. I have wondered for a long time how they are going to control it, since the generator is in the loco and the decoder is in the tender and so far nobody has come up with a realistic response. This was the year they should have released it with it being the centenary  but they probably figured the HD models were a better return on their money especially as most people preordered it at the old price.

On a video about the new p2 on Hornby magazine channel the designer of the p2 said that the steam and sound version has the dcc chip located in the body near the generator. So maybe it'll be the same for flying scotsman.

I'd suggest you try to see one or both streamliners in the flesh, it might help you of the fence, possible on the 'yeay' side. Mine just arrived here in Belgium, and they are flawless. The ridge is almost not visible, and it fits perfectly on both.

For those into HM7000 TXS, this is the fastest ever sound decoder installation. By far. If @Jenny Emilyneeds an idea for a short YT-video, highly recommended!

Unplug the tender, take the three screws out and open it, remove the cover Paper from the TXS-speaker, place it on the pre-installed speakerbox, plug in the decoder, connect the speaker, close up and connect the tender, and go! Typing this took me twice as long.

And if you are an idiot like me, and bought two locos and only one decoder, swapping the tenders is a five second job.

It is the Kernow new tooling one.

The answer is, a lot of faffing about! Had to make a carrier using a cut and bent up paperclip, glue the 3 parts onto that which then stuck into the two holes behind the bufferbeam Bachmann left to mount something.

Pictures here, simply because it might be relevant to quite a few Caroline purchasers. Not wanting to derail the thread.

I have just done that, something to look out for is that the bracket for the brake hoses clashes with the NEM coupler when cornering (causing derailment), I had to take it back to bits, take the floor out to take the NEM pocket out. Unless I fitted it in the wrong place but I dont think I did.

In fairness it looks better for having had it removed too.

Class 66 Update August 2023 - Let There Be Light

    66.jpg.06997b4fc2cc3870ec85345f44635969.jpg

Time for a quick update on our lovely Class 66, which has been progressing nicely though the Accurascale works! Having taken on the excellent Hattons Class 66 tooling, we documented how we made several tweaks to these models, unlocking more detail variations and taking on customer feedback.

This has been very well received. But, as some modellers pointed out, there was an extra yard we could go to to really bring the best out of our shed So we listened, assessed, designed and implemented some further tweaks on these already brilliant models to make them truly special.

    20230801_094501.jpg.0f2482d07316d36613b7305dd919df9c.jpg

All lighting units have been revised. We were unsure about changing these early on for the EP and we held out to see what they looked like on the decorated samples. The size of the units have been changed as well as the internal light guides to give a better appearance. We also now have the option of both types of LED light cluster.

    20230801_094542.jpg.0ecbf85a60b8cf3a6e915e8d85cb4d8e.jpg

The Freightliner green has been revised to the proper shade of green for this period. Previously the backing to the Freightliner logo on our first decorated sample was a different shade of green. In order to replicate this properly, we have used the same shade of paint with different gloss levels. It's very subtle but the camera flash shows it to good effect.

    20230801_094807.jpg.df5ab1a2ea9adb2385dd74b9d448b020.jpg

Both styles of cab interior have been modelled, featuring either wrap around desk or central "pedestal".

    20230801_095218.jpg.c22c04ef57362f72e68080d8b4c1c8c7.jpg

The correct shade of grey for the roof of the DB liveried locos has now been used.

Warning panel yellows have been tweaked. There are actually three different shades used over the period the 66 covers. Here are two of the them!

    20230801_095445.jpg.7951d2e01f1f6ba23b365034faa883ce.jpg

We have tooled an additional buffer beam plate (centre) to correct the position of the lashing eyes on the first 200 EWS machines. 66001 (and 2's) unique arrangement can be seen on the left. and the later "standard" on the right.

    20230801_095720.jpg.413e9238fdbfef83b0a8b0dc17230d5e.jpg

Among the other smaller and subtle tweaks we have also looked at and improved the fit of the handrails on the bodyside for the doors to give them a more realistic appearance.

    20230801_095818.jpg.2208590fc09e41d2bd6f58d649cdf707.jpg

With all these tweaks in place we can now confirm that the production run is signed off and underway. Not only that, but we are still on course for delivery for Q1, 2024 as originally announced back in February.

Pre-order your ultimate Class 66 via our network of retailers, or direct via our website below, with no money down pre-ordering or monthly instalments at no extra cost available. I must have had sixth sense! I cancelled my order for 2002 about four months ago on grounds of cost, but wanted and expected it to have the second set of smoke deflectors if Hornby's confusing CAD releases were anything to go by. Am I missing something or was the 'as built' release made clear enough by Hornby? Relieved and can't wait for the (more expensive?) version with two sets of deflectors.

Looking back at my order for the P2 with hattons before they cancelled it back when was announced in 2021. It was listed as Earl Marischal" (original bodystyle). So I guess thats always been the plan for R3984. The engine shed blog showing the cad confused things slightly but it is what it is now. Some people will want both variations.

  18. Hornby have just confirmed on Facebook that this version of 2002 will be in as built condition. And that the design does cater for the additional smoke deflectors for a future release. Looking back at the previous engine shed blogs the samples coming through was always of 2002 without the smoke deflectors. Must admit I thought it was 2007. But at least 2002 will be released with the smoke deflectors in the future.

  20. Good evening all. Can anyone tell me if 37409ncould be a suitable candidate for a simple re number to 37418? I don't really fancy the Bachmann 37418 from kernow models. And with caroline on the way I'd like to get an accurascale 37 renumbered etc to 37418 if I can get hold of 37409 that is.  37418 isn't on the cards atm from accurascale is it?

All The Colours Of Route 66 - Class 66 Decorated Samples Revealed

Our big announcement at the 2023 Model Rail Scotland show was the addition of the ubiquitous Class 66 to the Accurascale Diesel Depot. Adding the most numerous diesel locomotive of the current era (and indeed, the last 25 years!) was essential to match the vast array of wagons we have produced over the last five years, and indeed what we will produce in the near and longer term future.

    6600166779.jpg.84610c9c41a643599f6c8575fb94e368.jpg

The announcement of the Class 66 has gone down very well indeed, with significant demand from current era modellers, and those becoming nostalgic for those early years of privatisation, going by the demand for our model of 66001 as delivered with red grilles.

    66004topweb.jpg.0ea5967f8fe8bda4f130d3969c743fe4.jpg

As you can see, we have now reached the decorated sample stage as we look to assess the colours of the new batch of locomotives, as well as the fit and finish to the additions to the tooling suite we have made, and the changes to the original Hattons tooling.

    66122roof.jpg.f740b109aeaf44b8c3405da83b35fa17.jpg

Overall, we are delighted with how the model is shaping up so far, but as always, some subtle tweaks are required. Firstly, the yellows will be tweaked ever so slightly shade wise. the DB grey band is too light in its shade and the Freightliner green is also too light in our view. The TOPS panel on 66779 will also be altered in colour.

We will also be improving the fit of the removable hatch to fit a DCC decoder. The typeface on 66763 is also hilariously wrong and will be corrected on the production models you receive.

    66507web.jpg.3a0c584d3df21f7db23f0ce2b6ffe9e0.jpg

Overall though, we are pretty pleased with how this locomotive is shaping up, so here a look at each livery announced to date that make up the first run, including Accurascale Exclusives of 66001 and 66779 'Evening Star'.

Hi guys, these look stunning I can't wait to see them up close at a show. A question about 66004 climate hero will the size of the tail lights/ marker lights be adjusted on the finished models as the tail/marker lights are closer to the size of the day and night headlights on the actual 66004 and other 66s that have had the upgrade. I totally understand if it's a limitation of the hattons tooling and that's how it'll be, but just wondered if it was on the to do list.

Red Revolution - We Celebrate 25 Years of Class 66 With Two Exclusives!

    Acc-66001-1999-GBayer.jpg.0e9cf4bf99c0b61cce1041d5c15f669e.jpg

April 18th, 1998. 8:53am. The first of a brand new locomotive type, the Class 66 no. 66001, touches down on British soil for the first time. A first in a significant order of 250 machines for EWS, it began a revolution which would spread across the UK freight network, across a multitude of operators. It would go further too, across Europe and even all the way to Egypt with orders piling into EMD for their latest freight locomotive design.

It is hard to believe that the Class 66 has been with us for a quarter of a century, plying its trade across the network hauling freight in a myriad of liveries and operators. The Class 66 would continue in production for British operators for 18 years, with the final locomotive, 66779, arriving in 2016 to operate for GBRf.

With such a significant anniversary, we have decided to mark the event by releasing two Accurascale Exclusive models which bookend the class; 66001 and 66779.

    66001

    ACC_66001_web_v1.jpg.9a018025ad3c8f1a78690c3cbf82a70b.jpg

The arrival of 66001 on to British soil at 08:53 on the 18th of April 1998 heralded a new dawn for British rail freight, the first of several hundred locomotives of a type that would revolutionise Railfreight across the UK (and Europe).

    image(66).png.ed36004764908ab001f857dff459f47f.png

There were a few subtle differences between the first two and the rest of the production batch which have never been replicated before on a model. Firstly the lashing eyes to secure the locomotive to the ship were in a different position to later models. The horn grille was also mounted almost flush with the body. Visually 66001 looked more striking owing to its red grilles which were later changed to black. Our model will represent 66001 with the original red grilles.

    66779

    ACC2637_66779_web_v1.jpg.17db744b277c50ae223e03528742ca19.jpg

Drawing the production line to a close after 18 years and many hundreds of locomotives was 66779. This locomotive was specially finished in British Railways lined green it was to be named “Evening Star”. The loco also carried commemorative bells above the cab windows and a plaque denoting its significance in the Class 66 story.

    image(65).png.af9512cdfd1918d1324171f5a1d58520.png

Its appearance reflected that of BR class 9F 92220, Evening Star which famously brought the curtain down for steam production for British Railways. In an unveiling ceremony at York on the 10th May 2016, GBRf CEO, John Smith promised the locomotive to the National Railway Museum when it reaches the end of its expected service life. Still carrying its special BR lined green livery it can be seen working across the country on all manner of GBRf workings.

As this is a later Munchie built Class 66 our model will feature accurate detailing such as recess in cab fronts, different vents, large sandboxes and of course, the distinctive bell on the cab front as featured on the real 66779.

Both models will be part of our first batch of Class 66 locomotives and see new tooling variations grown from the already extensive tooling suite we have taken over from Hattons.

Delivery is slated for Q1 2024, with prices of £169.99 for DC/DCC ready and £259.99 DCC Sound fitted. Decorated samples are due with us in June, so keep an eye out for them.

As ever with our Accurascale Exclusives range, both locomotives will come with special presentation packaging and are only available direct via our website. Click here to pre-order today!

Hi Fran that's a grate announcement for 66779. What kind of finish will the loco be in? Will it be a gloss finish?

    Regards Gary
