  1. Chris

Will there be advance tickets, as in previous years, on sale at the York Model Railway Show from your Burford GWR layout stand, for this years exhibition at the NEC?

    Many thanks

  2. Something that would be useful is several, strategically placed, large information boards, similar to those at Warley, showing the exhibition plan with the usual “you are here” marker.
  3. Can anybody confirm the dates for the 2024 show, as the WoR website still has the details of this years show.
  4. You mean Pontins, who wore the blue coats, Butlins wore red, Warners wore green, and Haven wore yellow. Hi-De-Hi, Hello Campers!!!
  5. I hope that I don’t have any entry problems with my dated 2020 advanced tickets that l purchased as a special offer at the last 2019 show!
  6. Luke You could go to Birmingham Coach Station instead, at £47.60 return, then on to the NEC via either the X1 or X12. It’s much cheaper and quicker than going direct to the Airport / NEC, where’s the fares always more expensive.
  7. SE Finecast is now owned by Squires, hence the same stand number A58
  8. Or the X1 from Moor St Station, which I believe is the quicker of the 2 services as it takes a much shorter route.
  9. Debbie I`ve just accessed the ticket web-site and I`ve discovered 2 changes from previous years. There `s no mention of a print subscribers discount, has it been discontinued? Also it appears that you have to book your tickets for either the Saturday or Sunday. In the past the tickets allowed you to enter on either day. What is the situation if I book a ticket for Saturday, but then find I`m unable to attend on that day, will I be able to gain entry on the Sunday? As far as I`m aware I`ve not seen any prior notification of these changes, also the link shown doesn`t work either.
  10. From the 1st December 2016 it was raised from 70 to 75 in England and Wales
  11. I was there on Saturday, I asked the Security Guard that stood opp the TMC stand if there was another lift up to the balcony floors and he very kindly escorted me through the locked door by the children’s area, into the Stadium and after a fairly long walk though the stadium storage area, I finally arrived at the lift. That is how those in the wheel chairs were able to access those upper level stands. But I must admit that it was most annoying that this information wasn`t on general display on the out of order lift doors, but I assume that the Arena Organisers didn’t want too many visitors knowing that there was this replacement lift available as it each group of visitors had the be escorted back and forth by a Security Guard.
  12. Talking to people who end every sentence with the word “right”. Or starts most of their sentences with - Yes, I know that. When they quite clearly didn`t.
  13. I believe that’s its still free to park, as there is nothing on their website to suggest that the proposed parking charges have been officially implemented, as I would expect to see an actual commencement date. The £3, is a suggested voluntary donation towards the parks upkeep, prior to these parking charges being brought in, but there is no obligation to pay it.
  14. I would suggest that you send your details to the exhibition team at exhibit@warnersgroup.co.uk who will be able to assist you with your subscription number problem This email address is monitored daily Monday – Friday. I have used them in the past and found them very helpful. But if you are not concerned with the subscriber discount and you want the early entry, then by purchasing an advanced ticket, this will allow you to enter the exhibition early at 09.30.
  15. Yes, without any preceding zero`s. I understand that only subscribers to the postal paper copies are entitled to the discounted tickets prices. There is a link on the Ally Pally show web page that will give you your subscriber number. Or it will be printed on the address label on your next copy of BRM that should be arriving shortly.
  16. Or if you turn left from the entrance and then left at the roundabout you will find an Asda with a cafe, McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, Pizza Express and Frankie and Benny`s, all within an approx 10-15min walk from the venue. As already mentioned the catering arrangements are out of the control of Warners and comes with the venue. It`s a case of take it or leave it and there`s very little point in moaning about it on here and this was discussed a few years ago and I don`t suppose for one moment anything has changed. On the positive side there are other eating places within a reasonable walking distance of the venue which can`t be said of York Racecourse not unless you count the takeaway food van parked on the site of the boot sale opposite!
  17. There will be quite a number of the regular Traders not attending, probably due for the need to maintain social distancing and other factors, as there were 104 Traders attending the last Ally Pally exhibition against 72 for this year’s show.
  18. Steve Is the list of Traders that are shown in the drop down menu correct, as I`ve compared it with those who have been allocated a stand number on the Trade Floor Plan and there appears to be a few differences? These Traders are shown on the drop down menu, but haven’t been allocated a stand number on the floor plan, although there are 6 stands that have are yet to be allocated. Cheltenham Model Centre, JS Models, Latem Design, North Road Trains, WM Collectables, 247 Developments and Powerbond Adhesives. These Traders have been allocated a stand number on the floor plan, but not listed on the drop down menu as attending. Modellers Mecca, World War Scenics, The Hertford Model Centre, Videoscence, The Junction Box, Replica Railways, DEMU. I appreciate that in the current climate things do change, but it will be useful to know from the above 2 lists which Traders will be attending and those who have now declined.
  19. One thing that I`ve learnt today from this shortage of fuel, is just how many diesel vehicles there are on the roads. I live just down the road from a Sainsbury`s supermarket and petrol station. Our other nearest petrol station is at Tesco`s and is currently closed due to lack of fuel, so all the vehicles piled down to Sainsbury`s this morning. As you can imagine, by 8am huge queues had built up all around the car park and continuing at least ½ mile down the main road. Just after midday the diesel ran out, leaving just the petrol being available, consequently the queuing traffic reduced almost instantly down to about 20 or so cars waiting to fill up. So I took the opportunity to drive over and fill up, which now means; I can not only go to The Great Electric Train show this weekend but also down to Aldershot next weekend for the Farnham Show. I recently replaced my vehicle from an old diesel to a petrol one, mainly due to avoid London`s extended ULEZ charges that comes into force later this month. Something to bear in mind if you are proposing to drive to the Ally Pally show next year, that is, if it takes place.
  20. I believe that the majority of buses now have CCTV systems installed to record such incidents with disruptive passengers and with the most serious incidents the driver would contact the police direct to intervene. Not many drivers would nowadays get personally get involved in these situations, especially in the larger inner-city areas where the outcome could end with a tragic result.
