  1. Perhaps a solution to the ongoing saga of these large rucksacks that there should be a maximum size of rucksack allowed inside the venue. Only those rucksacks that is able to pass through a fixed cut-out slot on a display stand outside the venue, similar to that found by an airport check-in desk, will be allowed inside the venue. All those found to be oversized would have to be left in a specially provided cloakroom outside. As for some of these bags on trolleys, should they be banned altogether as they could constitute a tripping hazard?
  2. A word of note, The London Congestion Charge Zone is only in force from Monday – Friday (inside the A501). For the Low Emission Zone, if you go onto the TfL website, there is a facility where you can enter your vehicle reg number to check if you would be liable for any charges. Most of the charges apply to lorries, vans, mini buses, and some pre 2002 vehicles, but on the whole cars are exempt. There is currently no charge to park at Ally Pally and for all the years it’s been held there, it will be a first if all the parking spaces were taken. In fact they have increased the number of spaces in recent years. Except for the Ice Skating Venue, there is no other event taking place.
  3. If you don`t mind a 5min walk just around the corner, there is a cafe in ASDA (eg 12 item breakfast for a fiver - upto 12o/c) or there is a McDonald’s a bit further on. Alternatively, at the far end of the car park there is Whitby`s Fish and Chip Takeaway and Restaurant, with normal prices. Remember, as a condition of hire for this type of venue, it comes with the catering supplied, it won`t allow the hirer to provide their own facilities, unlike many smaller exhibitions in school buildings and some leisure centres etc. And probably on race days they won`t allow you to bring your own food and drink in either.
  4. According to the Met Office forecast, there is going to be quite a gale blowing on Saturday and have issued an Amber Warning. May cause problems with road and rail travel?
  5. If you still have a problem From the BRM Shows web page – For any booking queries please contact exhibit@warnersgroup.co.uk - This is monitored daily Monday-Friday, and your message will be picked up directly by the exhibitions department. I`ve used this service before with great success.
  6. Its L19 followed by your subs number, it does work as I have just tried it. Remember that you ONLY get the discount if you are a hard copy subscriber, digital subscribers don’t qualify. You will have to put their ticket insurance into your basket before you can proceed to payment, but this can be removed before you actually authorise the payment, so you only pay for your tickets.
  7. The most relevant bit... Drivers within the expanded zone using non-compliant vehicles will pay a daily ULEZ charge of £12.50, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. These include: • motorbikes that do not meet Euro 3 standards • petrol cars and vans that do not meet Euro 4 standards (roughly the equivalent to not being more than fifteen years old for cars in 2021) • diesel cars and vans that do not meet Euro 6 standards (roughly the equivalent to not being more than six years old for cars in 2021) Flippantly it could be said that's lower than the NEC's 'on the day' parking charge, people will either have compliant vehicles or not and they'll have to pay the charge or not. I would say a greater percentage of visitors come to the NEC by car than Ally Pally. Additionally that would come into effect inside the North and South Circular Roads from 25 October 2021 so it has no bearing on visitors to the 2019/2020/2021 shows. I`ve just read a report in today’s London Evening Standard (online) that there are now plans by the Ally Pally Trust to charge for car parking, probably commencing from 2020, to help towards its upkeep. This, together with the proposed congestion charges for older vehicles may well put end this historic venue being used for our and other exhibitions, as these additional costs will make it become too expensive to attend.
  8. I used the following system to fit the turntable into my baseboard although it was for an 00 gauge the same method applies. I drew 2 circles; 1 being the minimum radius to fit the turntable into and the other being slightly larger, this was the maximum radius that wouldn’t show outside the turntable ring. Providing I kept my cut within those 2 limits, I was assured that my turntable would drop into the baseboard hole, without it being a tight fit, for easier future removal.
  9. I know where NOT to park, in the Stevenage Leisure Park on the far side of the Station. It is only for those using the various facilities within the Leisure Park. It is privately owned with CCTV and you will receive a PCN if you are caught parking your vehicle there and then leaving the Leisure Park to go across the Station Bridge to the Venue opposite where the exhibition is being held. For the last 2 years since this exhibition has been held there I have seen quite a number of vehicles with the dreaded yellow tickets affix to their window screens. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
  10. I`ve often thought it strange that a company such as Squires Tools has never been in attendance at any of the Warner arranged shows. Is it that they have never been invited or they don`t on principal attend these type of magazine sponsored exhibitions, as they didn’t attend the recent Hornby Magazine show either.
  11. You can also return back to the A1 Southbound by the same route, but turning right - sign posted ALWALTON – into Orundle Road, through the Village passing the Cuckoo PH. It’s not sign posted A1 to deter vehicles from using this route!
  12. The vast majority of the Traders do accept card payments, as to your other question; what not to miss, it depends on your interest. Although it`s a bit late in the day, but printing off a copy of the floor plan from the Warley Home web page does give you an insight where the various Layouts and Trade stands are situated and you can plan a rough route around the venue. Enjoy the show.
  13. Another great modeller gone, may he rest in peace. I don`t know if it would be possible, but wouldn’t it be a fitting tribute to have some of his masterpieces put on display at say Warley, as many of us have only seen his work in photos.
  14. Being the selfish type I would prefer for the Show to be kept in December, I do the aforementioned shows at MK, Spalding, NEC. My next trips after Peterborough will be to Stevenage, then Longfield (Erith), then Doncaster. All nicely spaced out, moneywise and more importantly suits SWMBO, who believes I just go to these Exhibitions so as not to go shopping with her – as if I would!
  15. As Wigan Athletic are away to Preston NE that Saturday, so car parking shouldn`t be a problem
  16. I agree, I would contact a professional carpet cleaning company, if they are unable to remove it, then what`s the likelihood of you succeeding where they have failed? Although all these suggestions sound quite good, but they could make the situation much worst, leaving you with a permanent stain which even the professionals will not be able to remove.
  17. Purchased a ticket from the Warley stand at York yesterday, the printed ticket price was indeed £15.50.
  18. The one consideration that hasn`t yet been mentioned is the energy costs of the heating of your detached shed, that is, if you are planning to use it during the winter months. What form of heating are you planning to use, electric, natural or calor-gas, oil or even a wood burning stove? These running costs must be factored in, as it’s fairly obvious that the larger the building the greater these running costs will be. My railway room is situated in a detached 5m x 5m double garage, the walls, ceiling and doors have all been insulated. As it`s not possible to have this building connected to my gas central heating system, which would be the cheapest form of heating, the heat is provided by a 2.55kw automatic storage heater on a 7 hour cheap rate charge. This heater just about provides an adequate background heat throughout most of the day during the winter months Oct – March, except on the occasional days when the outside temperature is particular low and I will resort to switching on a small convector heater late in the afternoon to boost the temperature, as I can no longer work efficiently in the cold. The average running costs for just this one storage heater equates to £150 per year + additional costs when I switch on the small convector heater. And I do shop around to get the best energy deals.
  19. It’s shown on the booking form - use L18 followed by your subs number As there were no moans on here regarding the subscriber ticket issues for the Peterborough Show, I can only assume that these have finally been resolved. But just to be certain, I now always test out the promo codes + my subs number, when the respective booking opens, to confirm that it displays the discounted ticket prices. Meaning that when I come to purchase my tickets, I know that there shouldn`t be any issues. I believe that you only get the discount if you are a BRM hard copy subscriber, it doesn`t apply if you are either, a digital subscriber or a subscriber to other Warner magazines. Happy and healthy New Year to all.
  20. Looking forward to another great show Fingers crossed that the rain will hold off and prevent the car parking area from becoming a quagmire and having to walk through the mud and large puddles to get to the exhibition entrance.
  21. The problem that I can foresee with your ebay and other purchases is that they can only be valued at what the general market value is, which is not necessary the same as you actually paid for them. I would think that looking up your models in say Ramsey`s Guide to Model Trains may give you a better understanding of your models current value. If you have some kit built and not off the shelf models then you will need to convince your Insurance Company of their true value as individual items and not as one total lot.
  22. Just purchased my discounted ticket, without any problems that I have experienced in past years, are things improving? Although, when the booking first opened, I used the promo code + my subs no, just to verify if it would allow me into the discounted ticket page when the time came to purchase my ticket. I can`t remember if this has occurred when purchasing tickets for previous shows, but I discovered that it wouldn`t allow me to move forward from the ticket allocation page, until I added the ticket protection into my basket, even though I clicked on the NO THANKS button. Although it did allow me to I delete this item from my basket before I completed my purchase. But I have this feeling that this is a back door way by Ticket Factory to make money, hoping ticket purchases will forget to delete this (unwanted) item before they complete their purchase. But some good news, it does state, in addition to printing off your tickets (free) or having them sent to you (for a £2.50 fee), that you are now able to collect your tickets, free of charge at the venue entrance. I can`t recall this facility being offered before, so it should benefit all those who don`t have the means to print off their tickets and would have had them sent through the post.
  23. Not wanting to sound disrespectful but it appears that a some people have lost the plot. A “bargain” is only a bargain, so long as it’s still available to purchase. Surely if the outlet (apart from a budget supermarket), is selling an item cheap, then they have, in all probability only a very limited stock. By the time the bargain item is posted on here, I would take a bet that it wouldn`t be very long before they`re all snapped up. So what is the point of having a discussion about a bargain that could be no longer available? I imagine that the majority do what I do, just look at the latest posting to see if there is anything of interest, if so, make a quick decision; do I want it now? I agree that there could be a catch why the item is being sold cheap, hence some of the discussion comments, but to go into an sort of lengthy discussion on a bargain that may be no longer available is probably a waste of time. The only useful comments would be that there said item is now no longer available, as I have brought the last one, or they have now all sold, if only to prevent the outlet being swamped with enquires.
