  1. I have found one poor photo of this loco at Southall where it remained in great western livery up until its demise, I am thinking of modelling it but would like to see other (better) photos if they are available. Can anyone post any or point me to publications where they may be found? Many thanks
  2. Thank you 37114 for the compliments, your work too has inspired me to have a go. I had thought of purchasing the Altaya Bedford but wasn't sure what to do with it but your tipper conversion is look pzrticlulary good and I'm looking forward to seeing the completed model. Owdbob has also inspired me and in fact seeing his conversion of the atlas/dinky coal truck it looked achievable so I thought that I would give it a go. see picture below, I have also managed to purchase another IXO ford North west gas truck for a reasonable price off of eBay and in doing so also saw an Ebro spar lorry, looking at the photos I though I could do a bit of mix and match to create a Pickfords lremoval lorry. So the Ford cab being R/H drive has been transplanted onto the Ebro chassis as it already had red wheels. Its currently work in progress as I have had trouble spraying it, although I primed it, as well as rubbing down, the spar signage is still slightly raised and showing through the blue paint, also the phoenix/cherry paint was difficult to apply, more I think due to my air brush pulsating rather than a smooth spray. So I am going to strip it all off and start again. I have managed to source some suitable waterslide transfers off of eBay so hopefully it will all work out ok. I have also purchased an IXO Bedford OYD which I am going to change to British Railways similar to the Oxford Diecast version all the best Mark

I am looking to purchase and fit an ESU Loksound L sound decoder purely for plug and play rather than re-wiriing (not my skillset) and just wondering if anyone out there has done the same and what type/size speaker would you suggest. Also, although none were preserved what sound file would you recommend Coastal DCC, SWD etc?
  4. Pictures of the IXO Ford ET6 This was relatively straight forward as I purchased the 'gas' version which is already R/H drive, so just had to modify the bodywork and add some transfers. I was able to T Cut the existing lettering off quite easily.
  5. Having seen Giles of R/C conversion of 1/43 and 1/76 Diecast models fame and the IXO BMC FG he used to convert to R/C, I thought I would have a go. I managed to find one on Ebay and had a go at converting it to a BRS version. I have by no means the skillset of Giles to convert it to R/C so it is just a static model. As Giles has said in his RMweb threads and Youtube videos converting from L/H to R/H is relatively straight forward. I took his advice and primed the cab as he experienced problems with the original paint blistering when he over sprayed with Halffords car paint. I used Halfords white primer which worked OK. I masked the glazing with maskol which meant losing the black rubber seals to the windows but used a permanent marker to re-instate after painting. Giles kindly produced the replacement timber body and irons which really look the part. I used Phoenix paints for the green and wheels. The timber planking I used Lifecolor wood effects and Revell anthracite for the tyres. Transfers were ones I found on Ebay. I still have to fit some windscreen wipers, indicators and wing mirrors as well as adding some light weathering but all in all I am quite pleased with the overall effect. I couldn't find any colour pictures as examples of a BRS FG so used a Base toys picture for the colour scheme. Being originally LH drive there are some compromises on the model such as the fuel tank is on the wrong side and the number rear number plate needs sorting. Next I am having a go at the IXO Ford ET6. Dapol 'O' 57XX / 8750

I missed out on the first issue with the unnumbered 8750 version. I was thinking of purchasing the latest issue 9669, so was wondering how easy is it to change the cab side numbers? Do they easily ping off or is more work required that may cause damage, can they be overlaid with etched brass plates? Many thanks
  7. Came across the above posted on YouTube yesterday, wherever the coaches are stored I would suggest security is reviewed to prevent trespassing?
  8. I have a couple of the IXO RT Regent buses that I would like to change the destination details on. Has anyone come across any suitable replacement transfers or anyone that could produce them cheaply. I did contact Railtec but didn't get a reply, also tried another supplier but the costs for a small order would be prohibitive. Hopefully, not too off topic.

    New Layout

I came across the plan in the picture on Tower Models website and wondered if it might suit my situation and 'ambition' better but as a terminus rather than the impression of a through station. The compromise would be 9'0" width as opposed to 10'0". Does it work in practice what do you think? The shed has an off set door so would allow space for the sector plates. I'm not sure about building my own points `I know they would be cheaper but are Marcway points smaller than PECO?
  10. would if I could, that's the problem, I can't stop the motor from running to re-programme it, I put it on the programming track and it shoots off!
  11. I have the Z21 app on an iPad but even if I unplug the decoder and back I. again it still keeps running, so Im guessing the decoder has retained the command to power the motor somehow.
  12. Yesterday I decided to run a Hornby sentinel on a small layout, because the loco hadn't been used in a while it was a bit hesitant. kept stopping and starting etc using a Z21 control, so after cleaning the wheels etc I put it on the large oval layout to give it a bit of a run-in using Lenz 100. Placing it on the track it made the noise when there is a short or something, anyway whatever caused that after checking the wheels was resolved, the loco then started to work, however, it became apparent there wasn't any control over its speed to slow it to a stop so it keeps running at a constant speed and won't stop. I have tried the emergency stop, I have put it on the programme track and it still keeps running, so I can't read CV's or programme anything. I've read about DC mode sometimes causes issues but if I can't stop the motor running is there anything else I can do. It's only a Hornby 4 pin decoder so not expensive to replace if that is the only answer? Mark
  13. It wasn't the weatherers fault more like Royal Mail, perhaps shouldn't have mentioned the weatherers. Thanks to atom3624 for pointing me towards Dapol, i looked at DDC supplies website and Dapol spares and found class 68 pantograph wipers which may be a good enough solution so have ordered a pair
  14. Hi I have had a class 67 professionally weathered and the detailing parts added unfortunately it came back damaged with two windscreen wipers missing which wasn't the intention! I've tried looking for Hornby replacements without success does anyone know if anyone makes suitable etched replacements (what is the correct type)? Thanks
  15. So being on annual leave and lockdown this week (should have been in the Lake District ) I thought I would spend sometime working on my shunting parcel that I started before but didn't finish before Christmas! So I have now infilled the tracks with DAS clay and then covered with 'Precision Ice & snow' snow powders. Icicles are blob of silicone sealant on the end of a coffee stirrer then dabbed onto the gutters etc to form an icicle. Platform and canopy are laser cut kits. Still need to add some trees and other bits and bobs as well as making a small track extension section for the puzzle to work properly. The sentinel will get a more appropriate name in due course. All the best in these difficult times

    New Layout

so would it work better if I made the layout L shaped and I used the 9'0" return for the traverser? If so what radius curve would I need bearing I forgot to mention in my first post I have a Heljan 61xx as well! Mark

    New Layout

Thank you to all of you who have responded to my questions. Certainly some food for thought and I definitely need to plot it out on a roll of lining paper first. Thank you to for the links and photos which are of great benefit. I guess its fair to say like the modelling side most with the running of trains a close second so may be this first step will be the practice with something better to follow , who knows! I'll let you know in due course how I get on regards Mark

    New Layout

I am taking my first tentative steps into O gauge after a lifetime in OO, like many others I have followed on this site Dapol and their 08 are to blame! I am fortunate in that I have a shed 13 ft x 9ft which currently houses 22 years worth of OO layout which I will start dismantling later this year although I still need to deal with the ‘emotional bit’! I wont be moving away from OO altogether as I have two small shunting layouts that I will retain that will be accommodated on one side of the shed. That leaves one side and may be the end return of 9 ft. I thought I would go away from the usual station scenario and having seem Mudmagnets Acacia Avenue I thought I would building something along similar lines with a BRS parcels depot. This means I don’t need particularly large locos or need rakes of coaches etc. However, saying that if I could squeeze the hint of a small terminus for an extra dimension that would be good. So pending getting the shed ready I have been purchasing some stock. So I have purchased the following. Heljan Class 128 DPU Heljan Class 33 (recent batch) Dapol 08 Late BR green Dapol 57xx BR Black Dapol 57xx London Transport (I like the livery) 2 x Heljan BG’s Various Dapol wagons Dapol Autocoach BR Maroon (awaiting a BR black 14xx) Dapol Class 121 on backorder So the stock I have in the main has a WR theme and so the theme of the layout would have a West London bias as I could just get away with running the 14xx and autocoach like they did on the Greenford Branch as well as the LT 57xx in that it would need to come to the parcel depot for a specialist collection! So looking at Acacia Ave track plan I wondered if it would provide sufficient interest and how it could be adapted with the 14xx/class 121 scenario so started to look around. Unlike OO there do not seem to be a lot of track plans in O gauge on the web although this forum and Youtube are good places to start. I am planning to join the O gauge guild . I came across Ian Futers Victoria Park which looks like it could fit the bill nicely. See below ( no good a graphics so unable to show any changes) It could be potentially be a scenic section of 8-9 ft with the remainder being a traverser with a potential width of 2’6”? However, whilst common sense tells me less is more I can tend to err on the side of squeeze a bit more in so should I stick with the track plan as it is or maybe put a three way turnout in place of the first one on the R/H side to get another line if for parcel vans etc by moving the platform further back giving 3 intermediate roads and a fourth one for the passenger shuttle? Are there alternative track plans out there that would fit the bill? Getting used to size and scale will be the challenge for me so I was just looking for ideas, tips, words of wisdom etc from your good selves who have more experience in this gauge?
  19. Thank you for the responses, I think I will fit it in a Bachmann 66 and save up for the full fat decoder for the Hattons one
  20. Hi I was just wondering if anyone has fitted a TTS class 66 decoder to their Hattons class 66 and if so was it ok, straight forward etc? I know a six function decoder is required and the TTS is 3 function so what are the ones that are lost? Thanks
  21. many thanks, problem solved
  22. Please forgive the ignorance of this question but what is it on GWR locos that makes a rhythmic phsst, phsst, phsst, when slowing down etc is it an injector?
  23. Thank you. Its from scale model scenery BB018 Micro Layout Baseboard In A Box #2 (730 x 95 x 207mm)
