About Me
In 2017 I retired from my as job as a maintenance electrician in the GAS industry, yes really! I used to travel throughout most of the North West when carrying out my previous daytime job.
I severed my apprenticeship with British Steel in Trafford Park (formerly Taylor Brothers) where they made wheels, and tyres for the railway industry world wide. There my main role was a maintenance electrician in the hot-shops and forging areas.
I model SR 00 gauge steam, covering a period from 1923 to the end of 1947, but I'm a great believer in RULE No 1, so if I see a loco that takes my fancy then I'll buy it. I do now have a number of BR era prototype Steam and Diesel engines, as well as an ever growing number of pre-grouping (mainly, but not exclusively SR) loco's too, both kit and R-T-R form.
I don't have a layout yet, but work has now started on clearing my cellar of over 40 years worth of accumulated stuff (you know, the stuff that just might come in handy one day!) to make space for it. Hopefully after new lights, sockets, it has been re-plastered and had new flooring fitted etc, I'll be able to make a start on it!
My other interests are building R/C model boats, drawing, painting, (the avatar is one of my paintings), music and wine.
I also enjoy swimming, particularly open water, but only when the weather is warm(ish) usually starting in May when the water gets above 12C! I'm not into ice breaking thank you very much!
