  1. Got quite a bit done over the last couple of evenings. I finished laying the track, so all is a lot smoother and wiring it, made the first of the cassettes, and painted the class 24. I’m just waiting on the transfers. Two 24’s to repaint and number into 5113 and 5117. This one will be 5117. Most of the station building is compete, apart from the roof vents, and a final paint of the white.

  3. The last couple of days has been case of two steps forward, three backward with the track laying. One point which locos was stalling on has been removed as it was damage. I’ve lost my flux, and the super glue has ran away with also, as I can’t find that. Remaking the station building as I was unhappy with it. I also started my first conversation of a Cricklewood allocated class 24 in to an Inverness based one. Modified frost panels, filling in the roof access and filling in the contrail water filler. I have to make two head code boxes and re-number to 5117.
  4. Spent a little time on this the last couple of days. I was not happy with the yard, as some of the gaps were to big, so I ripped it up and relaid it. I now need to solder the supply wires back on. A start has also been made on the cassettes and base for them. Photographs to follow.
  5. After lurking on here for a while now, and dabbling with a few bits and bobs, I thought it was time to introduce my little project. I was given some old box files by a friend, and looking at all the micro layouts, I thought I would have a go. It also fits on the table in the caravan. It is based on the proposed line, as mentioned in Ian Futters book, to Laxford Bridge in the North West Highlands. It is assumed that this was built and has survived the Beeching cuts due to the economic importance, with the time period in the late 60’s early 70’s. This is also my introduction to DDC and my first go at scratch building. Hopefully the station building is recognisable as being based on Wick. First the track plan, some of the station building and finally some stock posed.
  6. Sorry for the delay in thanking folks for the reply’s. Work has been getting in the way.
  7. Hello, Having lurked on here for a while, and started and failed to complete a layout to date. I thought I’d have a go at a box file layout which can be easily stored and taken on holiday in our caravan. The catalyst for this is missing the winter climbing and skiing season due to being a muppet and falling off an ice climb in Scotland in January. Being originally from Aberdeen, Scottish railways have always held an interest, especially the Highland Main Line, and the Far North line. I admit to not knowing much about them, but every one seams to do the West Coast. I do have a soft spot for this as well! If this layout gets completed, I may I may be able to run modern image, or my favourite era of large logo around the mid 80’s. I thought I’d do my interpretation of the just supposing of Lochinver. This is my first DCC layout, which kind of set the era as the only DCC fitted locomotive I could find was a class 26 in green, so I’ve set the time scale between 1969 and 1972. I am still thinking about what to do with some bits, but it’s being built for a bit of fun, I’m not overly bothered about some operational accuracy, so long as it look reasonably as if I should be right. Any criticism, comments, or suggestions are welcome
  8. Hello, I’m building a small box file layout, based on the just supposing that a line was built to Lochinver. I know this is not a new idea, and has been done before, but this is a bit of relief, due to a ski injury, and something to take in the caravan. The period is 1969-1972, green diesel to early blue. What classes of locomotives, other than class 26, would possibly be based out of Inverness and go up the Far North, around this period and henceforth to Lochinver? My thoughts are class 26, 24, and class 20, but would these be a single engine or the more usual nose to nose? Any help, ideas, or thoughts would be helpful. Regard ian
