  1. This was or will be a common rail transition point in a duel gauge track The wider gauge rail (red rail in drawing) has been removed or yet to be installed John
  2. Dave When you say "on the high seas" do you mean in a ship on the high seas or in a plane above the high seas Either way the light at the end of the tunnel is a 71 & its heading our way John
  3. The following are my observations and are based on the 3 images below If the white dots I have circled on the 3 images is the area you are referring to then it looks like it has been corrected on the finished model The doors on the finished body look more silver than white (to me on my monitor ) The roof & sides look to be the same shade of blue on the finished body When you put the images next to each other the different shades of blue are very apparent, the lighter shade on the sample may be due to lighting or camera settings when the photo was taken I may weaken & get on of these John
  4. Alan Copied this from Rapido's UK web site Product R&D 3D Design Tooling First Sample Paint Sample Final Sample Delivery VTG TEA Completed Completed Completed Completed Mar 2017 Jun 2017 Autumn 2017 The schedule is subject to change due to unexpected headaches in production! Hope this helps John
  5. Go forward about 10 images & see what is behind the 2-10-0 Could they be fish vans The innards of that loco are very interesting Will the drive for the model be similar I.E. motor in body(electric vs hydraulic) with drive shafts & gears to the wheels If I an seeing correctly the D6XX an A-1-A Will the model be a "C" type bogie(not very prototypical but OK by me) John
  6. Roy I got off my ass went down stairs and measured one & you're right they are 11" long, my previous statement regarding their length was a guess. John
  7. Here are a couple of sights I found by typing "pool cue case" into my search engine One is in OZ here another is here , this one shows one that is Outside measurements 151CM(59in) x 23 x 6 CM which could hold 3 to 5, 5 car trains 5 Brighton Belle coaches at about 10" long = about 50" John
  8. Dale Here is an alternative way to mount Tortoises which I have used, you end up with a little more wiggle room I and others have found that the actuating wire supplied with the tortoise is a little bit small, I replace mine with a slightly larger Diameter piano wire I don't find it necessary to remove the over centre spring in Peco points Advantage is when you hear the point click over you know it has changed Disadvantage you don't get the prototypical slow movement of the point blades Keep up the good work Yours John
  9. Jason Nothing in this world is free So it will cost you an ATP-P John
  10. Aynthing to help a fellow E Train owner Well almost any thing John
  11. Jitmen These images are from 47137's posts 3312 & 3317 on page 133 of this fourm I have labelled most of the relevant parts The drive train from the motor The motor yoke clips onto the universal that universal clips into the drive shaft outer which slides over the drive shaft inner which clips onto the other universal, which clips into the gear tower yoke The universals at a small x shaped part that look and function the same as a universal joint in a cars tail shaft The lower image shows 47137's Apt that came with an improperly fitter universal as shown by the not ok arrow The drive shafts should come apart at either universal without to much force I believe that these parts are made of a durable, slippery plastic, possibly Delron (the same stuff that Athearn & others use in their drive trains, bogies, etc) If it was me I would pop the drive shaft inner off it's universal and slide it out of the drive shaft outer It wont matter if the universal remains connected to the drive shaft or the bogie tower It can be very fiddley working in the available space If you don't feel confident separating the drive shaft this way then it might be better to remove the motor as described earlier That should give enough room to replace the offending part Reverse the procedure to assembly the drive shaft If you haven't fixed your apt yet then I hope that this may help John Ps all this assume that the part that I have marked as the offending part is the offending part
  12. Silly me I thought this was the one being referred to. John
  13. Dave here's a thought that will probably be impossible for any number of reasons Would it be possible to post locos not going to UK directly to the customer from China I suspect it would be a logistical nightmare but it would mean Non UK residents might get their locos a bit sooner and it might save a little on postage When My APT-E was sent to me it went from China to England to Germany to USA(2 stops) to Hawaii to NSW in Australia then to me in Qld. (a trip almost once around the world) A trip from China to Australia would be a lot shorter Optimistically yours John
  14. I seem to have problems accessing this site on weekends Just tried & the little dots just kept circling until they gave up and told me "Can't reach this page" john
  15. These must be due soon Kernow & Hattons show delivery times as late this year I make that less than 27 days Dave any updates would be appreciated Also any chance of updating the product progress section on your web site, every month or 2 would be good (last one was in June) John
  16. With regardes to couplings I would like to see a body mounted pad at the correct height to which I can screw kadee,s I suspect that I am in the minority with this one My preferred kadee for BR stock is a 156 in a 262 box, the NEM Kadee's are bulky ( my opinion) Has the type of drive Mech been described here, I hope it will be all wheel drive(no traction tyres) & pickup with central motor with flywheels To Hornby's credit they have upgraded some of their loco to this type of drive if this is the case then I will get at least 1 (I do like things with pantographs on top) Single bogie drives belong to the toy market, (again my opinion) & would be a deal breaker for me John
  17. Walthers (a US company that produces HO models) have been releasing named trains (Santa Fr Super Chief, Milwaukee Hiawatha, Pennsy Broadway LTD etc) They do this by releasing one coach per month & the locos at the end I don't see why this idea couldn't be used for the HSDT, although I would probably like to see the locos first This would spread the pain over a longer period John
  18. JSpencer I hope you don't mind but it was driving me bonkers JohnS
  19. I not sure how sad/ intelligent a person I am, But I understood the last 5 posts John
  20. Dale Here is a circuit that only requires 1 wire to control the twin coil type point motor The second wire is used for the indicator feed back The third wire is the return that should be common to all point motors This will not work with a Capacitor discharge system I have not tried this circuit but i see no reason that it will not work Except!! Because you are only getting Half wave DC to each coil there might not be enough energy to switch the point John
  21. Does this mean that they will be here soon??????????? November/ December last time i looked at Hattons Web Site! john
  22. Squeaky Here is a slight variation on what you have done. I have been doing this for years What I use is below. The 2 bits of piano wire with the blue heat shrink are a tool for forming the heat shrink You may also notice that 1 end of the fibre optic is flared, this is done by holding the fibre very close to a hot soldering iron(not touching, you may need a bit of trial & error to get it right) Shorten the led leads, solder wires 2 wires to the led &cover the joints with heat shrink Place the larger heat shrink over the led & piano wire & shrink it Remove the piano wire from the heatshrink (you may need to twist the piano wire to help to release it) Test fit the fibre optic & now might be a goodtime to test the led This installation is in a Kato loco, the fibres for the front light are longer than for the rear and follow the original light guide path I hold the led assembly inside the loco and feed the fibre through the loco body(headlight hole) into the led assembly. ( it can be a bit fiddley) & the final result looks something like this Your idea with the surface mounted leds(SMD's) is brilliant and so simple once you have been shown it John
  23. Buy a Hornby TTS, gut it and use the sound unit in your DJM's92 &sell the rest on some online auction sit where some people go crazy to win, might even make a profit John
