  1. Paul Haven't had a chance to post a comment, but it was really good to see Hembourne in the flesh at Warminster, and to find that you were "the" Paul Ash who I used to sell chemicals to at Honda many years ago!! The layout is an absolute gem, and I'm sorry I didn't have more time to watch. Hopefully you will have a few more exhibition invites so that I can see it again. Best regards Martyn
  2. Steve Many thanks for this information - very helpful. Am I right in thinking you were the creator of Roseladden Wharf?? I remember seeing it at a Blackburn exhibition in the late 80's, and it was a real inspiration. Rgds Martyn
  3. Very much looking forward to this show!! The first one was excellent, and this line up looks every bit as good...……..
  4. Thank you Andy. A line up worth waiting for by the look of it!! Martyn
  5. I won't be able to get to the show now and fulfil the life long dream of seeing Leighton Buzzard in the flesh. I can only hope it might appear at some shows in the future...….
  6. Looking for another back issue!! Has anyone got a spare copy of issue 73?? Many thanks Martyn
  7. Very much enjoyed seeing Scarrside at SWING yesterday. So much detail packed into such a small area. Very inspiring...….. Martyn
  8. Are there any details of Railwells 2019 available yet? There isn't anything on their website or the S4 site so far. Always a good show, and always on or around my birthday so even better excuse for a visit!! Martyn
  9. Yaxbury definitely!! Built by another fine modeller - Jas Milham - but then you need to be a fine modeller to build in S scale given the amount of scratch building required!
  10. John See MRJ cover pic below. Bob Barlow was an amazing modeller……..and this was over 35 years ago!!
  11. John The Snape terminus was across the road from the actual maltings, so you could quite feasibly have them "off stage". As I understand it, the goods train was propelled from Snape Junction, so there was no running round required . there are loads of pics on the internet...…. The best model maltings I've ever seen were those built by the late Bob Barlow for the East Suffolk Light Railway layout he built with Iain Rice in the 80's - see sundry back numbers of Model Railways and MRJ.....and no doubt elsewhere on this forum. Martyn
  12. By trawling through some posts it seems Dave Elbourne was the builder of Scotland Street Yard, featured in RM in 1988. Sadly, Dave passed away at the end of 2017. I saw this layout in Blackburn in the late 80's - very impressive.
  13. This has to be my favourite shot of the Snape branch...…..with an off the shelf J15, where are all the layouts??!!
  14. Snape is a favourite of mine, and there's lots of information about it. I took the attached about 5/6 years ago. The station house is lived in and the office of the goods shed is still there hidden in the undergrowth. There's even an old wagon on the site!! Much of the maltings is now converted to apartments - some of them holiday lets. Rgds Martyn
  15. What about Scotland Street Yard in Edinburgh. I seem to remember there was an OO layout based on this site back in the 80's
  16. What an absolutely brilliant location!! They must have had to use very small tank engines, given the size of the run round loop!! Martyn
  17. I have been very fond of Forncett ever since I spotted a solitary photo of it in "LNER Branch Lines 1945-1965 - an OPC book. I can't find any other pictures, although I did also find the old map you posted. Is the NERA book worth buying?? I rather like these odd little mineral lines - Croft Goods is another model I like - and with the approaching Bachman J72, we have the ideal motive power!! I've always fancied the little Class Y7 as well - now reissued by NuCast Partners I believe. Rgds Martyn
  18. Certainly is!! You should have seen the state of my shoes after taking the pic!!
  19. Paul In my previous job as a Sales Manager for a chemical company, I could often take a slight detour on my way to or from a customer to visit old railway sites. I've come across some photos I took on one such detour along the Golden Valley - probably 6/7 years ago now. Some buildings were still standing then...… I shall now try and post some photos.....wish me luck!! From top to bottom; a small hut on the site of Bacton Siding; what I think is Westbrook Station building (now in a farm yard!) and a building I think at Peterchurch (or it could be Vowchurch) Hope they are of interest! Martyn
  20. I'm not sure it's appropriate to compare Buckingham with today's models. It stands by itself in my opinion. It relies on the fact that it was built in a time before "off the shelf" models, and the multitude of products available today. When I started at Xmas 1963 with the Triang "Pick up goods" set with Series 3 track, the Rev was already building models easily comparable with the first wave of finescale models in the 1970's. Just my thoughts...…..my copy of the Peco Buckingham book remains one of my favourite railway books bar none. Martyn
  21. I am looking forward to seeing a part of Buckingham "in the flesh" for the first time having followed it in the modelling press since I bought my first Railway Modeller in September 1972 ("Buckingham goes AC") I have acquired a big collection of mags featuring Buckingham over the years - the earliest being a 1949 RM!! Can't wait!! Martyn
  22. I've just come across this thread, as I was searching for "Rawnook" - this was the only hit! I believe the builder was Alan Bastable, usually known by his initials (I think) "AHAB". Iain Rice referred to him in one of his books I think. It was an impressively grimy industrial setting as I recall - unfortunately my copy of this magazine went many years ago. I'm not sure there are any other names to add to the variously listed layouts and their builders. Peter Denny will always be my favourite, so I'm looking forward to Railex and seeing Leighton Buzzard! Martyn
  23. Paul Many thanks.....at least I have the g/m2 weight to try and track down something in the UK!! artyn
  24. Paul I discovered this piece of video about the last train on the Golden Valley Railway https://www.herefordshirehistory.org.uk/film Thought it might be of interest! Rgds Martyn
  25. Paul Can I ask what type of card you use, and where do you get it from?? I've struggled to find a card which suits the "Pendon method" of construction. Thanks Martyn
