  1. Thanks Wiggy, I think I've worked it out. Doesn't quite follow the published function list which threw me initially but after further investigation, it's closer than I thought.
  2. I have two class 50s each with a DCC sound decoder but from different suppliers. I would like to know which is which because they sound so different (one is definitely much better than the other). I have the supplier's function button control details for both decoders but oddly neither loco follows either set of information correctly. Is their a way of reading these details from the device itself, maybe a CV value. In terms of hardware they are both the same (ESU).
  3. Thank you for taking the time to post this information - that makes good sense. So I will ensure that all my BR/FGW/GWR power cars retain a single fan.
  4. I have the following Hornby HSTs: 43 002/43 003 BR HST R3403 43 017/43 192 FGW HST R2812 43 172/43 154 FGW HST R3379 43 070/43 036 FGW HST R3478 43 187/43 188 GWR HST R3510 The top pair is original BR blue & yellow whilst the last pair is GWR green. All others are FGW blue. I have just introduced an incline to our layout which an eight car set will not climb so I am motorising all the dummy cars and this works perfectly. To start this process I purchased a Hornby Virgin HST R3390 (power cars 43 311 and dummy 43 114) and notice that it has a different roof fan configuration (two fans instead of one). I have tried searching online to find a reason as to why this is the case ..can anyone help and are the single fan and associate grille design correct for FGW/GWR HSTs? Thanks
  5. Thank you, I thought it was going to be something much simpler than that, maybe standardisation.
  6. Thank you everyone for your helpful replies - it seems 15mph is the right answer but I'm curious, does anyone know why those that could do 20mph were restricted later on?
  7. I'm just trying to configure my class 08 in terms of maximum scale speed - does anyone know which sub-class/variant 08 822 'John' based at St. Philips Marsh depot, Bristol is and therefore what it's maximum speed is (15 or 20 mph)?
