Ok So i had a pair of old Hornby class 25 (well more like 1.75 class 25's). bothe with burntout ringfield motors and wanted to see if i could save one and upgrade one to dcc an improve its runnings by: 1. changing the motor 2. removeing traction tyres 3. adding more pickups (all wheels) 4. add lights 5. add cab details (as had none). Motor 1: I sourced some replacement cd rom motors and rather than using a 6v replacement i found a 12v version on aliexpress MABUCHI RF-300FA-11410 D/V 13.0 DC https://www.aliexpress.com and designed a bracket to fix it in place Wheels 2: As i had 2 (ish) i noticed that I could scavange the unpowed boggie wheels from both locos and combine into 1 set of non traction tyre versions. i know i loose some traction ut will add a bit more wieght to help that. pickups 3: Designed a bracket for the unpowerd boggie that i could put in bronze wires to top of wheel (would Have gone with side pickups, but the boggie has a metal frame and i wanted to avoid shorts. this method was also added to the motor mount (and a small piece for the gear side, to be glued in pace) As a by product I had to remove the nub on unpowed bogie end, but that helped solve the lean. and i now have 8 wheel pickup Lights 4: Got some by colour (red/yellow, with common anaode) led's for headlights and yellow for cab and headcode light (which i cut a hole in the window glass so headcode and cab can be one light and folowing this guide https://loco-updates.uk/class-153-2/index.htm and added directional led's to front (one red/yellow and other side just yellow wiried up. Cabs 5: Ok i had none in the 2 (ish) loco's so out can cad and a few mins latter i had a set. (notice the motor end version is shorter due to gears, but i can live with that as some is better than none. Done: on the layout :) and alot better. Next: next need to sort some headcodes and some weathering to grim the to 1960's grime. and sort some headcodes, and onto a tender driven 8F that i wont to convert to loco powered.

update.. i have altered boggies and printed a set . (and used some temp wheels to make sure height is correct, as should be solid not spoked) they are very detailed when compared to old Hornby ones (respraied old coaches) next on to frame as i can print the 6 compartment 3rd class varient in one go on my printer (45feet on is just to big ) and then i can see if it roles calvin -

that sounds like a good idea (and they are seperate objects so should be simple :) in other news print is now curing but initial view is: A: better panel defernition (as now 2x real scale) B: "S" hand rails seem to look ok embosed on side. C: end panel detail worked (handrails on here will be wire) but todo A: door handles need a bit more stability as still break easy B: Lugage racks need more as even tho 3 times scale size are still failing, so i might figure out other methods, or seperatly print C: side wall thickness might need to be more as now with deaper panels has made them very thin in places.. and A: need a bigger printer to print in one go, rather than spliting length :) any one got one , and want to see if it works ? (once sI have sorted A,B,C todos :) Many thanks Calvin -

now have underframe done.. mostly drawn for strenght (aka a bit thicker in places), ooo and buffers (but might compress them in a bit when i get to couplerings (thinking of adding a nem pocket to bogie. did these have much under the frame ? calvin ooh and trying a increased depth panel and embosed handrail version print atm so wonder if it will come out ok -

ooooh intresting, i am sure i can share copies of the 3d models etc and even tho i am working in oo scale, i am drawing correct scaled size and then making it larger / thicker to compensate for scale.. :) so lets see what we can do :) as good to test models on other printers / systems / scales Many Thanks calvin I am atm thinking to print main underframe on fdm printer in ABS to get strenght / flexible base, and then resin body and maybe boogies for detail :) and i looked at your wagons :) love the sprung buffers.. as was thinking obout the same lol -

right test print 1st class compartment (hot of printer so not UV cured) panel detail is visable, but might want to incress the depth of them (again fight scale v real world) door handles and handrails, way to fine for real scale replication. so.. Thickern up and maybe embose of coach side use wire, and other materials but it got most of the detail esp tiny hinges, and the vent outside looks scaled ok (but paint might fill the gaps quickly the interor... :) happy with seats very with texture. , but luggage rail needs more to be thicker and maybe add a net representation, and vent needs a bit more thickness.. I suppected most of the thin parts would be sus.. but happy on the most part as is first print... and i have a ROOF :) so its buffers, under frame and some amendments / tweeks calvin :) wonder what a O gauge would look like :) lol ... back to OO as havent got room for that -

oh my :) i am thinking that is if i draw it in sectios (1st class, 3rd Class (normal and at end) and various luguage compartments, then should be able to asemble various like using lego :) i am going to have to split the job for printing as its 1.5 cm larger than my print box :) but thats another issue many thanks calvin -

there is something very pleasing withthe way this is starting to look :) (note the drawing is not 100% to scale on X axis as drawing might hve been streched when scanned, used to happen on my old drawing board ... back in the old days of pen's :) but i have drawn this to scale dims from the drawings calvin and now with a curve :) -

intresting.. i am drawing it for printing, as i have used my printer to make senary items (see https://www.thingiverse.com/calvinstreeting/designs ) and i recently got a resin printer and thought i know wonder if i can do trains / carriages etc now :) and the carriage is first, so i thought can i print some slightly shorter old style (love onld midland coach, with an air of style glamour).. hence i am now working on modules (ist class compartment, 3dr class, brake, luggage etc.. so can make many difernet types :) and when done i will probley end up sharing my models as they only got draw by others sharing drawings etc. many thanks calvin -

thought i would show a update.. I test printed the boggie and have had to thinkern up a little (the foot plate, and supports. scaled in hight the springs.) for stability and to make it printable. but was supprised with the detail it did manage to get. I also have started on the cariage sides (in sections), note: yet to curve bottom as easyer to do that last, found some good photos of a few various midland (or LMS ex midland) coaches to help with details and is that edge rounded etc :) calvin. -

ok a update.. had to thickern window bars to avoid/minimise warping. and a adjustment to the window crank handle to stop it snaping of :) but got enough to dry asemble/test fit (using blue tac to keep it in place. and seems to work. the valance/roof hieght is a bit, but dose give room to hang the crane over rolling stock i suppose :) -

I have a oo layout, :) so yep i am altering a fw things for scale/print/model use etc. and unless this derails i doubt i will see much of the under carriagei :) and thanks for the coach pics/ref as they will be helpfull for drawing. I am doing this as want some shorter coaches that are not 6 wheels, (and love the old panel style), if this works I might do more but this is first carriagei have tried to make calvin -

i can see the main (mid) spring was way more open on the photo v the drawing. but i jiggled it around a bit to A: better suit printing, B: look more like the photo. also moved diagonal braces a bit to allow 12.1 wheels, so its time for a test print, and find a body drawing... then work out couplerling last as that would not be part of any drawings .. calvin so in 4:hrs ish as printer is printing a coach shed part atm -
