  2. We possibly have a new venue this year as our main venue in Bexleyheath said no to all external hires for this year.  A community centre however has offered us the whole venue for a Sunday in Dec subject to being allowed govenmemt rules.  It will be as big as our usual show with at least 20 layouts and 25 plus traders.  It will be held a couple of miles away on the Welling, Plumstead and woolwich boarders around the shooters hill area.  Will have confirmed Sunday dates soon but looking second Sunday In dec which is when we usually hold the event.  Taking provisional bookings for trade space in a few weeks and will be send our regular traders invites.  This year however, will not be asking traders to pay there fees until defo have confirmation event going ahead.  If you have been to this show as a trader or exhibitor, you know we get great footfall each year of about 800 people for the day.

Hopefully by end of Aug will know more in regard to if event can go ahead.   If any exhibitors fancy it and want to do a provisional booking to exhibit, please contact me at selkentmrc@gmail.com

the new venue is in a number of ground floor rooms so will be easy to police access to each a area to limit people in each room and may have to set a condition at only two or three max persons manning trade stands or layouts.

Just had confirmed that the Gauge 1, 18ft demo track will include the amazing American 'BIG BOY' and for any one wanting to see the latest in technical fun with a layout,  come and  see Silksby Street, with a live action back scene with rain, seasons and amazing life like animation,  I personally like the fully working goods yard effect they can create.

  7. Really good show with excellent trade support, but only gripe was for first two hours on the Saturday, the catering kitchen was closed and not open to noon.   To be honest the amount you have to pay to hire the place, they should open the catering area from 10am.  Even bar staff when I asked them if any food was available, said no and only spotted a public cafe near the entrance when leaving.

  8. updated list of layouts and traders with more being added soon

Discounts on pre booked tickets plus entry at 9.45am to get all those first xmas bargains

Entry to the show is by entering a gate on the road next to ASDA into a large car park,   you then go past GOALS and the exhibition halls are at the end of the car park behind Busy Bees.  If car park fills which usually happens early after the show opens.  There is 2 hour free parking in the ASDA car park.

If coming from Central London or East London by public transport, quickest option is not train to Bexleyheath but instead DLR to Woolwich Arsenal and the 96 bus (20 mins)  to ASDA Bexleyheah or by tube North Greenwich via Jubilee Line and the  bus 422 (35 mins).   If coming by BR, from London or Lewisham etc, best option is to get off the stop before at Welling and walk the short distance to Welling High Street where there are more buses to get you to then venue then Bexleyheath BR.   If arriving at Bexleyheath BR its a 10 min walk if no buses are due.

A new coach service by Mega Bus from Canterbury , Faversham and Chatham also goes 15 times a day on the Sunday to North Greenwich, then bus 422 to us.  Tickets £7.50 plus £1.50 local bus

  11. Weds 21st Aug

All welcome at this popular monthly social drinkies night for model railway fans held in SE London (zone 2).    The bar has a N gauge and 009 gauge layout built in so feel free to bring locos.    Fine selection of real ales from Kent.   Usual lot who turn up include the OO gauge Assc crew who you would have seen on James May 'The Trouble with Hornby' and also members from the local model rail clubs in the area.      The venue is The Ale Bar, 443 New Cross Road, New Cross, London, SE14 6TA. We will be here from 6pm.    It is 2 mins from New Cross BR and on bus routes 53. 453 and 177.  There is a bike rack outside and free parking from 7pm outside.   www.thealebar.com     hope you can all make it, great chance to chat to other model railway fans over a pint.

  12.  I am going to present a report to a Steam Heritage line and would love the following input from railway modelers, of which I am one.

I would like to know the answer to the following questions, as many heritage lines, local steam railways has paid staff and volunteers.   You may  have  a few steam railways within an easy drive of some of you on here.  The question is how come you don't volunteer or want to volunteer on them.  Is your passion, model railways and recreating an era or actual steam & modern locos.   I found this in flying as a pilot, lots of plane spotters love aircraft but never thought about having a go flying one. If you as model railway fans, had the chance to work on real engines, track, signals and infrastructure as a hobby, would you?  and could you?

Of course some may volunteer already, it is RM's who don't I am interesting in getting feedback from

Also how many of you have ever actually driven a steam or diesel locomotive, and if not why not and do you have the desire to do so.

Would any of you ever consider a working holiday on a heritage railway where a new skill can be taught or a skill you have could be used.

Of course every steam railway has its steam buffs and photographers, but again many of these don't actually want to get their hands dirty or be part of the actual operation of a railway.  Could it be a age thing, ie lots of jobs particular to engineering and line infrastructure do require a bit of agility and fitness.

I know these seem odd questions to ask but there is a  valid reason and ways to attract more volunteers to real steam railways.

  13. The lovely Shannon who usually runs the admission area at our shows and who many of our regular exhibitors know has a model photoshoot this Sunday for a teen magazine so she cant help us. So we seek someone from 9.30am to 2.30pm who is based near to Sevenoaks or can get there with ease, to be the second person running the entry desk.   You will get £50 which we ask that you give us a invoice for on the day  plus you get lunch and of course free entry after your shift to enjoy the show.   Must be over 18 and friendly and able to deal with cash.  Please text me on 07946 904208 if interested and can make this Sunday.
