  5. SELKENT MRC have been donated a 13ft stunning N gauge fully scenic layout era 1960's and numerous locos and rolling stock and lots of brand new track. Usually part of the clubs remit is to give this to a worthy home such as a OAP care home or cub scouts etc. We had such a place lined up for it but they changed mind due to size. It is in the Dartford area at present and will need to be dismantled as a 10ft and 3ft fiddle yard to get into most vans. Our club van is just that bit small. The club has some funds to hire a long wheel base van for a day and I'd happy drive the thing, and help dismantle it with the owner just need a good home for it. It is to exhibition standard and worth a few bob, so with that in mind, only looking for places such as care homes, schools etc not private individuals or traders to take it. If interested and know such a venue which may want it, email me at selkentmrc@gmail.com Will try and put some piccys up the actual scenic bit is 11ft plus 2ft fiddle yard
  6. Went yesterday to one of the UK's only permanent model railway exhibitions in Wroxham in Norfolk, and hoped for a English version of the Hamburg set up with the marketing leaflets promising lots but reality not worth the £9.95 entrance with only one or two of the 8 or so layouts being of exhibition standard. The Japan themed layout was interesting and only let down by all the trains running at max speed so looked out of place scale wise. The promise of the UK's largest OO gauge British layout was a joke with scenery reminded me of a first attempt at doing hills, all covered in grass matting and buildings plonked down here and there. Surprised they didn't add a Hornby plastic tunnel to add to the effect they tried to create. See photo attached to see what I mean. I know peoples idea of scenic layouts is subjective, but advertising as the UK only full time layout exhibition, I do expect layouts to reach a certain standard as can be seen at exhibitions around the UK each week for far less money. They also had a Alpine railway which consisted of a 10ft high perfect round paper mache cone painted white representing a mountain with a couple of skiers perched on its side dominated a very small alpine village again with the odd train zooming past at a scale speed of 200 mph. The onsite model rail shop consisted of a shelf with some scenic scatter grass (mostly scenic grass obviously bought and never used as opted for basic grass matting on their layouts instead) a couple of Airfix kits and some pens and kids toys. Again what a waste as they have the space for a fully stocked model rail shop. Wroxham it seems everything is owned by someone called Roy, who runs the shops, petrol garage, garden centre, car parks and dominates the small High Street,go there and see what I mean. Not sure if they run this attraction also, but if they are branching out into visitor attractions, I'd stick to running all the local shops instead. Perfect idea and in perfect spot for visitors and attracting many holidaymakers but really badly planned and executed. A real case of quantity in trying to build massive layouts instead of quality.
  7. Hiya trying to contact Chesham MRC and the owner of Schloss Adler, an amazing layout, however his email bounces and their website for the club is one of those annoying ones which says contact email and wont open in my browser. If anyone has the actual email address for the club or Johnathan Wilkins email or phone number can they send me a private message as want to try and book the layout for our shows. Ta in advance
  8. We have a policy at our shows to give brand new exhibitors a chance to show off their layout and so if you would like to exhibit for the first time and own a fully scenic and interesting layout and able to travel with ease to Sevenoaks and free on Sunday 8th July, we'd love to hear from you. The Show is a large one with around 20 layouts, 15 traders and we once again return to Sevenoaks Primary School which has been rebuilt with full disabled access. Of course we'd also like to hear from established local clubs and exhibitors who want to exhibit at our show. Give us a call on 07946 904208 We have some exciting new layouts from established exhibitors booked already and watch this space for the full line up. Also our caterers have a full beer and wine licence so expect a nice selection of ales to be available on the day for the none drivers attending

  14. Selkent MRC based in London is set up not like a traditional model railway club, instead all members and it is free to join, have fully built layouts which don't actually get worked on at club nights, instead they take them to non model railway shows around the UK to old people's homes, school fetes, autistc groups, social clubs and charities plus well being events. This month we have had members with layouts at a number of school and community events and been asked recently to attend Chelsea pensioners to help set up a working model railway at their venue for them to build. we mostly get requests from se England as most of our members are in that region. We would like to expand to the whole of the UK and once we have local layouts and operators willing to give one day a year to us, we can start to approach local charities in those areas. The club has 3 exhibition layouts it takes out, personally I take out a 5ft 009 gauge fully scenic layout and typical visit would be a midweek to a oap home, where after looking at the layout and having a go, a discussion starts over tea about remembering the days of steam, basically a nice afternoon. The idea of the group is to promote the hobby to new channels and two years ago got invited to the police fed conference to show ideas for hobbies for retiring police officers although just as much interest from those with years of service to go. Remember we are not asking you to attend organised model rail shows, but shows and events where your layout would be a added attraction or a discussion starter. Actually we may ask some layouts to come to the two shows we run in London and Kent which also promotes the hobby. So if you have a layout which can be easy to move, a car to put it in and a spare afternoon, please contact us on selkentmrc@gmail.com. For those that can get to London we have use of a great venue where we have monthly social and drinkies night and now set up a test track and hosted the oo gauge south east annual meeting a few months ago and our venue is open to other railway groups to use for their yearly meetings. Also anyone got any old 00 track or controllers, we build 8 x 4 ovals on mdf and give them to groups to use to build their own scenic railways. We buy the mdf and paint it black and set the track and then deliver it to community groups.

  19. Just to confirm it's £30 not £25, and from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Hi RJS1977. we always have paid our stewards at all out shows, Sevenoaks, New Cross and Bexleyheath. To be honest, it is the more cost effective option, as having 4/5 volunteers often standing around can cost more in food and drink, then having someone doing a specific role/ roles.
  20. Hi, One of our helpers has to go into work, doing their main day job, so we need someone to help with the show this Sunday from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Must be over 18 and duties will include general stewarding, helping wheelchair users via the wheelchair ramp access door and there will be no outside duties like car park, (WE PROMISE). You get as much tea and coffee as you want and lunch provided and of course are then free in the afternoon to enjoy the show. Payment is £30, paid on the day and we will require a invoice. Must have right to work in UK. Show is Bexleyheath, and excellent bus routes to venue and free parking. This will be a customer facing role and will also include some time operating one of the clubs layouts, to relieve the operator (our 009 one). If interested, please send us a email to selkentmrc@gmail.com and include your location.
