  1. 0-6-0T 756 "A S Harris" also appeared there between 1949 and 1951 when it was withdrawn. Chris KT
  2. There are only 5 choices H15, N15, S15, G16 and H16. The head probably says S15 or possibly N15 but the heart says the H16 Pacific tank so that's where my vote is going. Chris KT
  3. Personally I've put my Airfix LMS 5 planks (diagram 1982) on Bachmann chassis. Chris KT
  4. The 42ft Brake Third / 45ft Brake Compo 2-sets were typical on South Western branch lines, including Lyme Regis, for many years until replaced by longer stock in the mid thirties. Indeed the 'Hornby' 58ft 2-sets of Brake Third & Lavatory Brake Compo (sets 42-46) replaced the 42/45ft stock on the Lyme Regis branch in 1936 and then held fort until about 1957. Chris KT
  5. Hello Tony The only 6 wheeled, 12' 6" wb bogies which BSL and later Phoenix made were for the GWR and LMS so they must be one or the other. As a price guide the Southern Railways Group can still offer a set of unassembled castings for a pair of bogies (wheels not included) for £10.50. Chris KT
  6. Peterborough to Spalding wasn't included in the 1980s plan. But there was a later proposal to electrify Peterborough to Spalding, I think in the 1990s (I'm writing from memory). From memory I think the main motivation was to have the EMU carriage sidings at Spalding therefore freeing up the, more valuable land occupied by the carriage sidings at Peterborough for other (commercial?) purposes. Chris KT
  7. It's a while since we spoke of RCO 7844 wrecked at Sheffield Victoria in Jan 1954 but while looking for something else, of course!, I stumbled on the article. It's in 'Backtrack' for Feb 2012. Chris KT
  8. When green was reintroduced on the SR in June 1956 between 30 & 40% of the hauled coaching stock was still in SR green, ie it had never been repainted into red or red & cream. After June 1956 the SR re-painted its corridor stock that was red & cream into green with great enthusiasm to the extent that some stock had a repaint at Intermediate Repair (when it should only have had a re-varnish) instead of waiting till the next General Repair. Chris KT
  9. In most cases the motor bogies of suburban and semi-fast units were 8ft 9in wb with 3ft 7in wheels, though there were a minority with 9ft wb. The trailing non-motored bogie of 2-car units was also 8ft 9in wb but they weren't simply motor bogies without motors - they were a different design. Other carrying bogies were normal SR 8ft 0in wb with 3ft 7in wheels. Chris KT
  10. Woops - sent my previous unfinished in error! In 1957 set 880 was:- S34261 BSK S24316 SK # SK see A S3913 SO # RKB see B # SO see C S15900 CK S15038 CK S34262 BSK Coaches # were "not stencilled with set number" and were ex SR. 'A' could have been Maunsell or Bulleid - I lean towards the latter. 'B' was No. S7955S, a Maunsell RKB, diagram 2667, converted from a Maunsell RF (as per Hornby) in 1953. Could be a relatively simple rebuild of the Hornby RF - or keep the corridor side towards the viewer as that was unaltered in the rebuild! 'C' was a Maunsell SO - Hornby's model of Diagram. 2005 SO would suffice. On Mons, Weds and Fris set 880 went North; on Tues, Thurs and Sats it returned South to Bournemouth. Chris KT
  11. From at least 1953 the Bournemouth-York-Newcastle set was basically BR Mk1s in set 880. (Previously it had been Maunsell set 459).oy many yearsIn 1957
  12. I would certainly be interested in Bulleid family EMUs becoming available. Chris KT
  13. I saw Thunders Hill several times over the years - it has always been my favourite amongst his layouts. He will be sadly missed. Chris KT
  14. Yes, I believe it was repaints from December 1948 until August 1949 where 'BRITISH RAILWAYS' was omitted from tender and tank sides pending delivery of the first BR emblem. Chris KT
  15. It looks like Isle of Wight Central Railway No. 8 by Beyer Peacock. Later SR No. W8 and withdrawn Nov 1929. Chris KT
  16. I don't know for sure, Fredo, but I don't think so. From memory they could be folded up into the back of the seat so you could fit in four a side at busy periods. Chris KT
  17. Set 880 was on the Bournemouth-York-Newcastle. In Summer 1956 I have it as 34261/24316/3913/3914/Maunsell RKB (Diagram 2659 No. 7864 this Summer)/Maunsell SO/CK (Maunsell or Bulleid?)/15038/34262. The BR BSKs/SOs/SK/CK should be doable from the Hornby models with one caveat depending how fussy you are and it only concerns the interior. M & E Mark 1s had armrests in the third/seconds while S & Ws didn't. So if Hornby have modelled armrests they are strictly wrong for BR(S). Incidentally until early 1954 the RKB's companion was a Diagram 2658 RCO as announced by Hornby. In Summer 1953 the combo was 7864/7844. Chris KT
  18. If you do mean the Bulleid Bournemouth 6-sets, 299 was painted experimental plum & spilt milk in 1948. None were painted crimson lake & cream until Dec 1953 (299) and 293 was also CL&C by June 1954. By Sep 1955 so were 291, 297, 298 & 300 and 294 & 296 by June 1956. 290, 292 & 295 were never CL&C and went straight from SR green to BR green. Chris KT
  19. Yes, Pull-Push fitted 'Gate' sets 363, 373 & 374 worked between Plymouth - Bere Alston - Callington branch or Tavistock. But never in P-P mode on the branch. And I don't believe they worked P-P to Tavistock, at least after the War In any case Friary had no P-P fitted M7s in BR days (except 30107 10/48-9/51) and only two P-P O2s at most, which would have been pre-occupied with the Turnchapel branch P-P services until they ceased in 1951. Chris KT
  20. No, Mike moved FROM Woking TO W.SUSSEX. Chris KT
  21. Diagram 2658 RCO No. 7844 was written off at Sheffield Victoria in April 1954 while working in the Poole-Newcastle or Newcastle-Poole (I can't presently remember which way it was going). I do have the article but can't find it at the moment. I'm fairly sure it was in Back Track (though it was possibly Steam Days). After that one of the four Diag 2659 RKBs had to make do with a standard Diag 2005 or 2007 TO as it's partner. It's a common misconception that only the first six Diag 2651 RFs had the narrow kitchen window. I imagine the source of this is the note on Mike King's drawing of an RF. In actuality the 1929 and 1930 Diag 2651s also had the narrow window which is apparent on photos of 7940 (of 1929) and 7952 (of 1930) I have. Chris KT
  22. I used to think that only the first batch of Diag 2651 RFs had the small kitchen window but I now believe that all three batches of Diag 2651 RFs had it. And the wider window only featured on Diags 2650, 2655 & 2656. Chris KT
  23. 9ft pressed steel bogies: apart from Hornby (not sure if they are readily available) or Bachmann which are offered as spares they are offered by MJT (part of Dart Castings) and Southern Railways Group in various combinations (sales@srg.org). Chris KT
  24. No, Fredo! But if you want to change one digit the following 3069x engines had late crests. 30694/95 and 97 had forward facing crests both sides. 30690/96/98 and 99 had left facing crests each side. Chris KT
