I would give some balance to this but it isn't the place or time so I don't appreciate a comment that it's not fair to respond to.
  2. He's someone I'd have genuinely loved to have met and talked to. I did wonder about us doing a piece about the 50th anniversary of The Railway Children film but then Covid happened.
  3. Genuinely really sorry to hear that news Gary. Frank was a great character.

  5. Plus I reckon you'll need to re-orientate your house through 90 degrees to get the best out of it so you'll need to cost that in too. ;)
  6. There is a tint on 37s (as with some other classes) but, as you say it depends on the angle that you're looking at them from and the reflection of light. It's more obvious on a 47 though.
  7. We'd be interested hear views on this. My perspective is that we can all learn from good modelling and you quote Pempoul which I can't recall anyone being offended by. How could anyone? If a British modeller chooses interesting subject matter and models it well should they be excluded just because of the magazine title? Not in my eyes. Phil recently photographed a rather nice OO9 layout at Bristol show; could a 'British' modeller be inspired by it; either to make it a British scene or to take an interest in overseas subject matter? To me it's as justifiable as a feature on an Australian modeller with a GW BLT. Would we alienate readers? I don't foresee we'd ever have an issue of the mag with solely continental content but would a well-chosen layout article be a positive or a negative? Bring it on I say. ;)

  9. @RBE @Grimleygrid - be very afraid; the gauntlet has been thrown down.
  10. This does not explain why several retailers who have spoken to me who did have their allocations reduced in February saw a further reduction recently. When joining the dots with the first Rocket packs in 2020 when this 'diversion' of stock was very apparent I was told it was really down to ensuring the web (direct) sales had sufficient quantities to meet their overall sales targets. To me, that's what it's all about but more transparency, at very least, would be good. Behind the scenes I have done what I reasonably can in terms of feedback from a wider perspective that has been freely given by so many retailers and sensible people on here but can't wave any magic wands; it's something they need to resolve.
  11. Please pay attention to the video and subsequent posts before trotting out worn out phrases. I won't even answer the question, you can go and find out.
  12. If I had evidence to say the quantities commented upon were not representative I would have suggested such but the wider information I have had suggests anything already mentioned is indicative of a wider issue rather than isolated issues.
  13. This isn't the topic for it but a company is purely a legal entity so it can't be nasty. Neither is it likely to apply to everyone working for the company but the actions or decisions of individuals can create or fuel perceptions.
  14. BACHMANN LAUNCH BRAND NEW CLASS 37 IN OO SCALE AT DEMU SHOWCASE Ahead of the Autumn 2022 British Railway Announcements, Bachmann Europe Plc today surprised visitors to the Diesel and Electric Modellers United (DEMU) Showcase event held in the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield with the news that it has developed all-new models of the iconic English Electric Type 3, Class 37 Diesel Locomotives for its Bachmann Branchline OO scale range. Not only was this ambitious project made public for the first time today, but the first models were on sale during the event from the Bachmann Stockists in attendance. Whilst Class 37 models have featured in the Bachmann Branchline range for the last two decades, these brand-new models owe nothing to their predecessors and have been designed from the rails up using original drawings, diagrams, site visits and surveys of real locomotives. For those unable to inspect the models at DEMU Showcase themselves, a video presentation by Bachmann Europe’s Production Development Manager, Dave Parsons and Richard Proudman, the company’s Rail Brand Manager, premiered on YouTube this morning, unveiling these new models to Bachmann customers and consumers around the world. Highlighting the history of the project, the technical specification of the models and the extensive tooling suite that Bachmann has developed to accurately model much of the 309-strong fleet throughout their working lives – starting with the Class 37/0s and Class 37/4s – the video also looks at the first models which are on sale now. Building on the impressive specification of the award-winning Bachmann Branchline Class 47, the new Class 37 shares many common features such as the five pole motor with twin flyhwheels, all-axle drive and electrical pickup from all wheels. Each axle runs in a pair of separate metal bearings, located in the diecast metal bogie towers which are fitted to the diecast metal chassis block. The Dual Fitted speaker system returns, offering authentic sound reproduction and this is pre-fitted to every model, whilst the Class 37 features a new ‘Yard Light’ mode, allowing red tail lights and/or marker lights to be displayed at both ends of the locomotive when operating on DCC. Using the model on DCC also provides cab lighting and engine room lights at the push of a button, whilst analogue operation sees marker lights, tail lights and headlights - where applicable – all illuminate as desired. Each Class 37 offered will be produced in three formats, with standard versions ready for use on analogue control out of the box and with a Plux22 DCC decoder socket for those consumers wishing to fit their own DCC decoder (Bachmann’s recommend Plux22 LocoDecoder carries the item No. 36-570A). SOUND FITTED models will also be offered and these versions are pre-fitted with the latest DCC sound decoder technology from Zimo – the MS450P22 sound decoder. SOUND FITTED DELUXE models share all the features of our SOUND FITTED models but with two additional innovations – both pioneered by Bachmann and for which the company received the Innovation of the Year prize in the 2021 British Railway Modelling Awards – namely the motorised radiator fan, this is driven by an independent motor that is operated as part of the sound project, and cab windscreen glazing which has undergone a specialist treatment to replicate the tinting seen on the prototype. Furthermore, Bachmann has produced for the first-time multiple sound projects to be used in its SOUND FITTED and SOUND FITTED DELUXE models so that not only are the aesthetics of each model true to the individual locomotive being depicted, but so are the sounds. No fewer than four sound projects can be specified for any particular locomotive and these encompass the original Class 37/0s, original locos with thermostatically controlled fans, Class 37/4s and DRS-modified machines. Like all Bachmann products, SOUND FITTED and SOUND FITTED DELUXE models will operate on both DCC and analogue control straight out of the box. When used on analogue control, a range of authentic sound effects can be enjoyed when power is applied, including a convincing engine start up procedure before the model moves – whilst the motorised fans on SOUND FITTED DELUXE versions will also operate according to the sound project fitted to that particular model. David Haarhaus, Managing Director of Bachmann Europe Plc said: “Like any long established company, Bachmann Europe Plc will continually invest and improve its product wherever possible or commercially viable. Incorporating the latest technology and processes to set the next baseline for our ranges. The overwhelmingly positive response we have enjoyed for our Class 158 and Class 47 models has given us great confidence to maintain our policy of perpetual development and improvement.” David continued: “This wonderful all new Mk3 Branchline Class 37 arrives in high street stores as our company looks forward to the 190th anniversary of the Bachmann brand in 2023. We would like to thank all of our retail partners, Bachmann Collectors Club members and consumers for recognising the benefits of being part of our extended Bachmann family. This beautiful new “Tractor” is a perfect prelude to next year’s celebrations and will be available from your local model store next week.” The models revealed and on sale today depict Class 37/4 No. 37430 ‘Cwmbran’ in BR Large Logo Blue livery (item Nos. 35-335, 35-335SF – SOUND FITTED and 35-335SFX – SOUND FITTED DELUXE), whilst the Bachmann Collectors Club has announced a limited edition model of Class 37/4 No. 37422 ‘Cardiff Canton’ in EWS livery (35-335K/35-335KSF/35- 335KSFX). Further versions of the new Bachmann Branchline Class 37 are already in transit and will be arriving with Bachmann retailers this Autumn. Details of those models will be announced in early-August when the full Autumn 2022 British Railway Announcements is unveiled. 15. No, far from it; our listings on Google are pretty strong because of traffic levels. However I try to limit its crawling through Wheeltappers (don't need more nutcases!). It depends what you're searching for and any terms. See https://www.google.com/search?q=manning+wardle+class+i&client=tablet-android-lenovo-rev2&sxsrf=ALiCzsZeD4gfK2-rR1AtXe9IH4C64ihCfA%3A1658524478091&ei=PhPbYq-SBZWPgQbw_pbACg&oq=manning+wardle+class+i&gs_lcp=ChNtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1zZXJwEAMyBAgjECcyCAgAEB4QCBAKMggIABAeEAgQCjoHCAAQRxCwA0oECEEYAFCJDFiJDGDXFGgAcAJ4AIABkQOIAcEFkgEFMy0xLjGYAQCgAQHIAQjAAQE&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-serp#ip=1 https://www.google.com/search?q=manning+wardle+class+i+s+scale&client=tablet-android-lenovo-rev2&sxsrf=ALiCzsbIeorCNRcr4VKwhz8g52Jbm0eeAA%3A1658524483042&ei=QxPbYvKVAtuT8gL6praYCw&oq=manning+wardle+class+i+s+scale&gs_lcp=ChNtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1zZXJwEAMyBQghEKABOgcIABBHELADOggIABAeEBYQCjoICCEQHhAWEB06BwghEAoQoAFKBAhBGABQog1Y0R5ggiRoAXABeACAAdoBiAGzCJIBBTEuNS4ymAEAoAEByAEIwAEB&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-serp

  17. That adds a completely different perspective Simon. Love it.
  18. I'm sorry I failed to notice your reply today Ray. Nope, Exact Editions is staying. Unfortunately you have been incorrectly advised and there's no integration between Pocketmags, World of Railways and RMweb. I can ensure that you don't suffer in terms of the RMweb membership of course. My impression was that you wanted to step down from Gold to Premium and forego the digital issues however by coming off Exact you would lose access to the archive. With Pocketmags you will 'keep' the mags purchased even if you terminate that subscription. I'll be in contact with subs on Monday.
  19. It's DEMU Showcase in Sutton Coldfield this weekend (July 23/24) and we're displaying four (maybe five!) stunning new OO gauge models for the first time. Making their public debut are first samples of the Class 104 DMU, NBL/BR prototype diesel 10800, GWR Parcels Railcar and our all-new 'Far North Line' Class 26 with twin headlights. A sample of gas turbine prototype 18100 is also winging its way to us and will be on show if it arrives in time. As you can see from the photos below, these 'next generation' models will deliver even higher levels of detail and sophisticated lighting, sound and DCC features. Please note that these are first samples, subject to modification and improvement. They are not necessarily representative of the finished product. If you're visiting Showcase this weekend and want to find out more about these models (and any other HELJAN projects), do come and say hello. Our pop-up stand is located next to the Scottish Diesel & Electric Group's stunning 'Wellpark' layout. We look forward to meeting you this weekend! And if you can't make it to Showcase, look out for further updates on these new models soon.
  20. Cavalex Models and Ultimate Model Railways to release Orenstein & Koppel Yeoman bogie aggregate open box wagon OO Photo courtesy Mike Fraser Cavalex is teaming up with Ultimate Model Railways to produce the Orenstein & Koppel bogie aggregate open wagon in 4mm scale in OO scale. The 61 wagons were built by Orenstein & Koppel at their Dortmund works in Germany and introduced in 1988, to meet the expanding business and upgrading of the Foster Yeoman Torr works quarry, for use out of Merehead stone terminal. They were designed to be as short as possible, to give the maximum payload in the shortest possible train length and were a similar size to the successful PTA wagons then in use by Foster Yeoman and ARC, as they were then known. A side door was required, to enable cleaning out to avoid contamination of different materials, but these were rarely used in practice, if at all! Generally, for design and build purposes they were to run in blocks of 10 wagons, with two outer wagons and 8 inner wagons, but in reality blocks could be any number, depending on depot size and payload required. At some depots the trains had to be split for unloading and reconnected afterwards. The first two wagons built, both outers, were subject to rigorous type testing before the wagon design was accepted to run on BR metals. The bogie, the O&K 25-100, was new to the UK and resulted in the wagons being restricted to 45mph fully loaded, but this was not a problem with the long, heavy trains being run by Foster Yeoman, so the wagons entered service as soon as they arrived! The TOPS code was changed in 1990 to JYA, but took some time to appear on all wagons. The wagons proved very successful, both in operation and maintenance and, although designed for a 20 year life, are still in operation today. There has been one livery change, around 1997, when the original side plates with the word YEOMAN and big Y logo on were removed from all wagons and replaced with a single plate, which had the Y logo and YEOMAN name on the same plate. The basic Silver grey colour has remained (apart from repair repaints which were mainly grey) but the logo plates have been gradually removed over the years, leaving the wagons looking decidedly grubby in appearance! The model is already significantly advanced and at the tooling stage of the process. Deliveries are expected during Q4 2023. The Cavalex PHA/JYA wagons will be produced to the same high standard of finish as the highly regarded PGA and recently arrived TEA bogie tank wagons and will incorporate similar levels of detail. Both inner and outer wagons have been modelled. The wagon will incorporate the following features: • Highly detailed underframe • Zinc alloy chassis • Easy conversion to P4/EM, with 26mm axles used as standard • NEM coupling pockets • Sprung buffers at one end for outer wagons • Working knuckle couplers with uncoupling bar for inner wagon ends • A wealth of separately fitted parts to recreate this highly detailed wagon Three liveries are announced for the initial run of the PHA/JYA, running numbers and pack details to be confirmed. PHA – Foster Yeoman livery (outer wagon) PHA – Foster Yeoman livery (inner wagon) JYA – Revised Foster Yeoman livery (outer wagon) JYA – Revised Foster Yeoman livery (inner wagon) JYA – Unbranded livery (inner wagon) JYA – Unbranded livery (inner wagon) The wagons will be priced at £49.99 each and can be pre-ordered through ultimatemodelrailways.com. This model is exclusive to Ultimate Model Railways and cannot be ordered through any other retailer. Our thanks to Mike Fraser for all his help with this project.
  21. If it's definitely expired e.g. Exact magazine access unavailable then, yes, you should take Premium out afresh and follow steps 1-4. If you do still have access to Exact it may be worth phoning the subs department on 01778 392002 and they can change the plan. Let me know if you have any problems.
  22. I had enough vodka/antifreeze in the system! We wuz 'ard in them days.
