  4. Hi All, Without getting to far ahead of ourselves, looking at the success of these loco’s I would of thought a second run would be inevitable. Agree on ‘Whatley’ 56,001 in Construction sub-sector livery plus a Dutch variant, a Transrail TG variant & a Transrail in Dutch livery too. Fingers crossed…..
  5. Hi All, Here is my Cavalex Class 56 in large loco livery numbered 56,093 & I have to say that this model is absolutely stunning. I have added the front end detail & also a driver (which was a bit more tricky). Just waiting on a re-mapped DCC chip so I can run her. Then it will be some weathering to bring this model ‘alive’. There has been a lot of hype about this model & I would suggest it is a definite contender for ‘Model of Year’.

  7. Hi All, Looking forward to receiving my DCC ready version of 56,093. As I could only get the non-sound version, could someone who has fitted a chip in theirs confirm what decoder works best with this loco to enable all the functions to perform satisfactory. I have had a quick trawl of the last 10 pages & seen mentioned the Lokpilot but which variant (part No.) is best suited. I would also be interested if Cavalex were to produce a sound chip & looking for clarification to see if a speaker is already pre-fitted (I would check but I haven’t received my loco yet). Thanks in advance.
  8. Hi All, The Terence Cuneo inspired covers (complete with hidden mouse) from the early 1970’s are particular favourites of mine. Part of the inspiration was comprehensive layouts that showed what could be achieved. And of course, ‘Every boy deserves a Hornby train set. Just ask Dad’.
  9. ‘Damed if you do & damed if you don’t’. Hi All, I picked up 3 of these OAA open wagons recently & these are absolutely superb. I opted for the variants with ‘repaired planking’ which creates a patchwork effect & once weathered these will look even better. The features included on these wagons are a diecast body providing some much needed weight for an open wagon, sprung buffers (although not prototypically correct) & an amazing amount of under frame detail never seen before on a wagon! There are 17 (yes 17!) different wagons available in a number of liveries ideal for era 7 & 8 modellers. These include several in bauxite, a number in Railfreight red & grey (2 plank & 3 plank), civil engineers ‘Dutch’ livery, an EWS version in maroon on its way plus several with patchwork repairs as mentioned previously. An opposing perspective….. Although these are undoubtedly an incredible piece of miniature modelling, do they need to be? Now, I have spent my hard earned cash & can not disagree with the fidelity of these wagons, but….. Are sprung buffers needed on a model? Do they provide a real benefit? The under frame detail is incredible, however most of this is actually under the wagon & won’t be seen. Is this really required? And introducing so many versions all at one time is this necessary? Now there may be manufacturing benefits to this last point that we are not aware of. But, although this many versions does indeed provide a greater choice to the consumer, would we still be satisfied if only half the quantity was launched? There are potential cost benefits for manufacturers if the comments above were adhered to with reduced development costs & and a potential quicker launch to market. The selling RRP would/could be reduced due to the above also. A win - win situation. Would modellers be satisfied with this? Remember, from most viewing distances a lot if not all of this detail is unseen. Food for thought, especially in the current climate. Let me know what you think.
  10. Hi All, I have managed to pick up some of these Bachmann Mk2F coaches in the Virgin livery. Personally, I prefer these versions compared to other manufacturers examples as these are more refined and the colour ‘red’ has more depth. However, there is a price to pay for the extra finesse…… Although there are DCC versions available, I have decided to forego that particular option. However, if at some point in the future I want to upgrade these coaches it could be a consideration using after-market parts. My new coaches will be hauled by Bachmann class 47’s in a number of liveries that I already have within my fleet. This includes the Inter City ‘Swallow’ livery & the heavily distressed 47, 537 supplied as a limited edition from Kernow.
  11. HI all, Thought I would share with you this image showing the latest edition to my fleet - a class 59 in ARC livery. Now suitably DCC chipped, driver fitted and ready for duty….. PS - Agree about the comment about the PGA hoppers finished in the ARC paintwork….. Finally, Happy New Year.

  13. Hi All, I have received my Accurascale MDV 21 ton departmental wagon & very impressed with the finish. it is an ideal starting point for some subtle weathering too. Limited to just 500 models so if you would like one of these I suggest you move fast as these won’t be around for long!

  15. Hi All, I also saw these wagons yesterday at GETS. I was particularly drawn to the weathered PXA versions. The guys on the Cavalex stand kindly took these out of the cabinet so I could take a couple of photo’s. These wagons can be found in mixed rakes with BBA, BLA, BDA etc or as a block train. Dependant on what power you have ‘up top’ will reflect on how many wagons you will require if you are looking to replicate prototypical train lengths.

  22. Hi All, I have also replaced the couplings on my Dapol MRA wagons to the West Hill Wagon works magnetic couplings & can confirm all runs well. It also makes uncoupling a lot easier…..

  25. Hi All, Resurrecting this thread as the original information mentioned a Q3 2023 launch. I realise we have only just entered this period, but has anyone had any updates? Having visited the Dapol website, I can not see any information. Looking forward to your feedback.
