  1. Here is an update on my experience with the haulage capabilities of my new GNR Stirling single received today I ran in the loco for an hour on DC then fitted a DCC Decoder As I have a couple of ramps on my layout I was concerned with the locos abilitity to climb the grades. I had been disappointed with my Hornby SECR H that struggled in lifting my 3 coach SECR birdcage stock on the ramp. With the Stirling single I need not have worried as it took a load of four LNER suburban teak coaches without any hesitation or slippage up the ramp. Check the video I noticed a speaker seems to have been fitted in the tender I think I may fit a sound chip. Any idea who supplies the Stirling single DCC sound chips in the UK?. Ian
  2. Yes I had only ordered one and paid for one. The name on the one I refused to accept was Pearson. So if the person is on this forum rest assured it has been sent back with the courier today.
  3. I got 2 emails last week and 2 parcels arrived this morning from APC. I signed for my own one and refused the delivery of the one with a different name. Hopefully it will be redirected to the correct recipient ASAP on its return to sender. First impressions of the loco are really excellent - now to get it DCC fitted and running
  4. This photo now shows the correct position for the motor and pick up leads after I completed the resoldering. The thicker red motor lead should go to the ML connection and the orange lead from the track pick up goes to TRKR connection. As has been stated in DCC mode the motor must be fully isolated and connected only to the decoder motor output. Ian
  5. My Dapol Scotrail 68 arrived and I thought I had a lucky escape - name plates fitted straight and no glue marks. All was looking great until I tried to get it running on DCC . The DC test run before fitting the decoder was fine. I fitted a Hatton's 21 pin decoder and the loco started running immediately without any controller input. Then I fitted a Bachmann decoder this time it responded to the controller and the loco ran for a couple of minutes before the decoder cut out due to overheating. The photo shows the problem with the wiring I had with my model . The red motor lead had been soldered to TRKR (track right ) and the thinner orange lead track pick up from the wheels had been soldered to ML (motor left) I assume the factory dont test it with a decoder fitted . Resoldering of the leads to their correct position cured the problem and restored correct DCC running. (Both decoders surprisingly survived the ordeal) Although I did not expect to have to get my soldering iron out on a new model nevertheless I am very pleased with the detail and running qualities of the Dapol 68 and would consider buying another.
