  1. Hi, i'm curious more than anything and may experiment in due course but i was wondering if anyone has used paint weathering filters on their models. I was thinking maybe a dark grey or black could be used to give an effect of a general covering of grim or a weather beaten fading. However the effect does seem to very subtle and may not be obvious enough compared to the more accepted methods of weathering. I guess it could just be another layer to the mix. Does anyone have any real world experience of using these paint filters. Thanks
  2. I've been thinking about this myself. The only idea i've come up with, but yet to be tested, is to load some sounds onto old phone, then connect this to bluetooth speaker hidden somewhere behind or under the layout. You could then use a music app on the phone to select the appropriate sounds as and when. required. Personally i was thinking of a background country sound/weather sound and have this play on repeat. I can't remember where now but i did find online a site where these sorts of sounds could be downloaded for free, something tells me it was the BBC sound effect department.
  3. I've looked at a lot of these motors and notice many come with a 1mm shaft. What are people using as a sleeve to bring this out to 1.5mm and 2mm ?
  4. Thanks for the information. It looks like we are good to go with the all third as it is. It was the instruction that confused me in stating that ducketts had been removed and as pointed out above only a brake would have any need for ducketts to start with.
  5. excuse my ignorance, but are we saying that a full third never existed in LBSCR days, and these were a rebuild from brake thirds.
  6. I have a kit of the above carriage but the kit is at was in SR days post 1927. This is an all third example I want to create this as an actual LBSCR example but i understand by 1927 the ducketts on the sides had been removed. (at least that's what is says in the instructions) Can any one confirm the original build did have ducketts. If so, whereabouts on the side would this have been, and lastly does anyone know where i can get some castings of suitable 4mm ducketts. A google search has not given me any leads as yet. Thanks
  7. Yes i do know what your trying to achieve even if i don't know the specific program. However can this not be achieve in google earth with real imagery rather than maps. I seem to recall there is 3D function which converts the satilite image into elevation based on mapping data. You can then adjust the elevation and angle you are viewing from if that makes sense.
  8. Thanks for the reply's. Based on the reply's i think i will order 14mm wheels. It also sounds like in the work shop they used what ever wheels came to hand. Therefore i'll choose based on the look i want to achieve.
  9. Hi, i need to ask the rmweb hive brain a question. i'm making some 4mm Stroudley Carriages and the kits do not say what size the wheels are required. I know i need 8 spoke for the brake van and mansell wheels for the others but i have not idea what diameter i need. Anyone know ? Thanks
  10. This is exactly what i've used except mine came from B&Q. Stuck down with copydex and used under the tracks. The underlay was first stuck to the baseboard and then the track stuck on top. Again if cut neatly it help form the shoulder for the ballast. Its proved faultless and i haven't found any down sides yet.
  11. I was doing a bit of maintenance on an old mashima motor (circa 20 years old) which wasn't running too well. diagnosed as a loose screw holding one of the brushes in place. Seeing as it was loose i thought i'd take it fully out and give it a clean. Trouble is not really knowing what i was doing or what to expect i've gone and lost he brush and the little spring which sits inside the screw. Mr Google hasn't been much help in finding spare parts. Which got me wondering. What size are the brush and spring and could another manufactures parts fit. Has anyone else tried to fit alternatives and had any luck. I did read somewhere that some one had used mashima brushes in a Bachmann motor with success, although i couldn't be clear what Bachmann motor that was. Thanks in advance.
